GUARDIANS  OF  HEAVEN'S  GATE

Hay grupos que, por uno u otro motivo, no llegan a tener el mismo reconocimiento que otras que si que lo llegan a alcanzar, a pesar de hacer las cosas igual de bien o en ocasiones incluso mejor. A esas bandas en muchas ocasiones tan solo les queda la baza de la insistencia, del buen hacer y el tesón de saber que son fieles a sus ideas, y poco a poco el reconocimiento termina por ir llegando, aunque claro, en ocasiones demasiado tarde. Hoy vuelvo a traer al blog a una de esas bandas, "Bloodbound", y su último LP publicado "War of dragons", del pasado 2017.  Siempre comparados, siempre acusados de fijarse demasiado en otras bandas, muchas veces compatriotas de ellos, (grupos suecos), sin embargo, si tomamos su sonido objetivamente no podemos negar, nadie, su calidad innegable. Este séptimo y hasta la fecha de esta reseña, último trabajo de la banda muestra como ninguno un asentamiento que les pone al nivel altísimo que poseen, calidad compositiva e interpretativa, incluyendo una producción excelente. Canciones para una vida - Beast In Black - Born Again

BORN  AGAIN

Nada mejor para comparar que escuchar uno mismo con sus propios oídos, así que tras la anterior entrada sobre uno de los temas del último LP de Battle Beast, es de justicia poner en el blog uno de la banda creada por Kabanen tras la salida de Battle beast, es decir del primer disco de Beast In Black "Berserker" salido igualmente a la venta el pasado 2017. Sin duda todo huele a rebanchismo y pique entre ambas bandas, algo lógico y evidente si se termina una historia entre componentes de un grupo a través de tribunales y demás. De lo que no cabe duda es de la calidad de Kabanen en esto de la composición e interpretación guitarrera y aquí dejo otra prueba más de ello a través del tema "Born Again", otro de los que más me gustan de esta primera obra de Beast In Black, de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Battle Beast - Bastard Son Of Odin

BASTARD  SON  OF  ODIN

Ya he hablado de lo sucedido en la banda Battle Beast en el blog, de como la separación de un miembro fundamental puso contra las cuerdas a la formación restante, y es que estamos en esa circunstancia tan habitual en esto de la música de pelearse por "la gallina de los huevos de oro". Siempre que entra en la ecuación "la pasta" suele salir alguien mal parado, máxime cuando además hay acusaciones internas en el grupo de quien hace que, quien tiene tales derechos o en que dirección debe ir el grupo. Sea como sea la separación de Battle Beast no llegó a producirse y de la marcha de Anton Kabanen salio la banda Beast in Black, prometiendo hacer una "justicia musical" a su proclamada "injusticia" en Battle Beast". Más allá de eso, está claro que Battle Beast aprendió bien la senda que labrase Anton Kabanen en el grupo en su periodo de estancia en el, y en este primer LP sin él a bordo, "Bringer Of Pain" han sabido perpetuarse en el sonido, con esa dosis muchas veces "cuasi popera", un tanto electrónica y moderna de la que siguen haciendo su seña de identidad. Canciones para una vida - Sebastien - Queen From The Stars

QUEEN  FROM  THE  STARS

Sebastien es una banda checa que lleva ya una década de existencia aunque su historia musical viene aún de más atrás. Enmarcados en un heavy power metal melódico, surgen de las cenizas de la desaparecida banda "Navar" de existencia entre 2001 y 2007 cuyo sonido estaba más orientado al heavy metal.Parte de sus miembros, tras decidir terminar la banda, y sobre todo George Rain quien parece llevar el peso del grupo, a la voz y guitarra, deciden intentar crear otro proyecto musical que terminará por llamarse "Sebastien".En 2008 pues comienzan su andadura musical y en 2010 su trabajo se plasma en un primer LP, "Tears of white roses" que muestra ya bien por donde van a ir los tiros musicales del grupo. En 2015, y con la incorporación del guitarrista Andi Mons, quien formase también parte de "Navar", se edita el segundo larga duración de la banda, "Dark chambers of Deja Vu", un paso más adelante en su carrera. Este pasado 23 de febrero de 2018 ve la luz su tercer, y hasta la fecha de esta reseña, último trabajo de Sebastien, "Act of creation", un más que recomendable disco que muestra un asentamiento definitivo de una banda que va dando poco a poco los pasos adecuados para seguir su ascenso a pesar del aparente desconocimiento que de ellos tiene el gran público. Hoy quiero dejar una muestra de ese buen hacer en un tema, "Queen from the stars", una balada, un tema tranquilito pero cantado con un exquisito gusto y que tiene una versión en su idioma materno con videoclip incluido.

Canciones para una vida - Thaurorod - Coast Of Gold

COAST  OF  GOLD

Tercer LP de la banda finlandesa "Thaurorod", del presente 2018, un disco que ya de entrada me ha resultado mejor que su anterior "Anteinferno" con solo unas pocas escuchas. Ya he hablado de esta banda en el blog y los que hayan leído mis anteriores reseñas ya sabrán de mi opinión sobre la evolución del grupo. En 2012 hay un cambio de alineación en algunos puestos de la banda, en concreto teclados y voz. Evidentemente la calidad de los músicos sustitutos está fuera de toda duda, pero igualmente me gustaría romper una lanza en favor de los sustituidos, de hecho, a día de hoy y con ya tres LP's del grupo en marcha posiblemente en su conjunto siga siendo el primero de ellos "Upon haunted battlefields" de 2010 el que más me guste, sin embargo, como decía al inicio de esta reseña, este tercer trabajo me transmite unas mejores sensaciones que su anterior "Anteinferno" de 2013, con un Andi Kravljaca a la voz recién enrolado y con una trayectoria en bandas prometedoras, tales como "Silent Call" o "Seventh Wonder" que percía augurar un éxito mayor, pero, en mi humilde opinión, se descuidó más el aspecto compositivo, quizás excesivamente progresivo y carente de filo, algo mucho más resuelto, para mi gusto, en esta tercera obra. El caso es que parecen acompañar mucho más las composiciones a un, por otra parte, escelente producto sonoro en cuaetiones técnicas, de producción impecable e interpretación intachable, valga como ejemplo este "Coast of gold" que da nombre a la obra y del que dejo un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial, un clip por cierto que será del interés de todo aquel que, como es también mi caso, sea aficionado al dibujo, ya que muestra un video del proceso de creación de la fantástica portada del album.

Canciones para una vida - Kalmah - The Evil Kin

THE  EVIL  KIN

El octavo disco de estudio de la banda finlandesa "Kalmah"  se llama "Palo", editado este recién pasado 6 de abril. El grupo siempre se ha movido en un death metal melódico, pero una de las cosas que más me ha sorprendido de lo que he ido leyendo de esta obra, es en cuantos sitios web califican al grupo con la etiqueta de "Power Metal". Realmente el sonido del grupo ha ido evolucionando del death melódico puro de los inicios hacia otra cosa, siempre en mi humilde opinión con el trasfondo death melódico bien presente, y, por otra parte el apelativo power quizás pueda explicar en parte algo de su evolución, pero de ahí a colocarles ahora como "power metal" aunque sea extremo hay demasiado tramo aún. Sea como fuere, pues al final son todas etiquetas, lo importante es la calidad de lo que se compone, y en ese sentido Kalmah siempre ha dejado el listón bien arriba, y esta ocasión parece ser igual. Buena prueba de ello es el primer single de adelanto que la banda nos dejó de la nueva obra "Palo", de título "The Evil Kin" y de la que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube de su lyric video oficial.

Canciones para una vida - Grimner - Fafnersbane

FAFNERSBANE

"Vanadrottning" es el tercer larga duración de la banda sueca Grimner, un grupo del que ya he hablado en el blog y cuyo concepto musical es un folk metal de gran influencia nórdica.La banda se forma en 2008 y es por lo tanto en este 2018 cuando celebrando su primera década de historia editan su tercer LP, "Vanadrottning", con un ligero cambio de sonido respecto a sus dos magníficas obras anteriores, algo a lo que posiblemente contribuya la incorporación de alguno de sus miembros, en concreto la de Martin Welcel en funciones de voz limpia. En general se reconoce bien en la nueva obra al grupo de los anteriores LP's, y la estructura musical y compositiva es bastante similar, pudiendo esperarse flautas, mandolinas o gaitas además de los riffs heavys de costumbre y la dualidad vocal, aspera y limpia que siempre ha utilizado la banda. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog uno de los Singles del disco, "Fafnersbane", con colaboración de Erik Grawsio a la voz de Manegarm, y del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Heidevolk - A Wolf In My Heart

A  WOLF  IN  MY  HEART

 "Vuur Van Verzet" es el sexto trabajo de los holandeses "Heidevolk", un disco editado el pasado 12 de febrero, una obra en la que presentan algunos cambios en la formación pero que sin embargo, lejos de hacer que las composiciones se resientan negativamente parecen tener un efecto regenerador ofreciendo una cara mejor a lo largo y ancho de la obra nueva en comparación con sus, por ejemplo dos anteriores trabajos, "Velua" o "Batavi" en los que la banda daba una sensación de cierto estancamiento compositivo tal vez. Así pues, sea por el motivo que sea, parece haber un cierto retorno a los primeros y reconocidisimos primeros LP's, como "Valhalla Wacht" segundo trabajo de 2008 o "Uit Oude Grond" de 2010. Así pues estamos de nuevo ante un disco de folk metal, de temática viquinga de primer nivel, con todas las virtudes de la banda en un trabajo "Vuur Van Verzet" del que dejo hoy su segundo adelanto, "A wolf in my Heart", cosa rara, cantada en inglés aunque la versión especial de la obra incluye uno de los bonus "Een wolf in mijn hart" que no es sino la versión en holandés del tema que, como digo, hoy dejo en el blog.

Canciones para una vida - From North - From North

FROM  NORTH


De la siempre dinámica y productiva escena sueca nos llega una nueva banda, "From North" con su primer y, hasta la fecha de esta reseña, única obra editada de título homónimo al nombre de la banda, "From North" de 2017. El grupo se forma en 2016, liderados por el cantante y compositor principal Hakan Johnsson. Ellos mismos se cuelgan la etiqueta de "viking metal", y su sonido puede catalogarse influido por varios estilos y subgéneros, pero el termino death folk power metal melódico puede definir un poco por donde van los tiros, aunque tienen en ocasiones una ligera tendencia al thrash death melódico un poco si se quiere a lo Amon Amarth, sin caer en ello completamente. La lírica de las composiciones se centra en las "Eddas" viquingas, y el ambiente sonoro que logran en sus canciones van sin duda encaminadas a ese tema.Como decía al inicio tan solo tienen editado un LP, "From North" de 2017, del que hoy quiero dejar en el blog uno de sus temas, El homónimo al grupo y LP "From North", del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Alestorm - Treasure Island

TREASURE  ISLAND

Que sería de un pirata sin hablar de su isla del tesoro. De nuevo traigo al blog la última obra de Alestorm, "No grave but the sea", de 2017 para destacar otro de sus temas, y es que la maquinaria musical de estos escoceses liderados por Chistopher Bowes funciona a las mil maravillas, y esta quinta obra de la banda destila buen hacer, experiencia y pasión por lo que se hace, una serie de criterios que, unidos, como es el caso, denerian ser siempre sinónimo de acierto. Hoy quiero referirme a su tema final de la obra, "Treasure Island", el broche perfecto a una de las obras más consistentes de cuanto nos ofreció el pasado 2017, y que muestra a unos Alestorm en plena forma y con cuerda para rato, (esperemos). Con casi 8 minutos, este "Treasure Island" no se hace largo en absoluto, conquistandote desde el principio, melodía, fuerza, un tema 100% Alestorm del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Helloween - Stay Crazy

STAY  CRAZY

2017 fue el año de la gira-reunión de muchos de los miembros de Helloween de todos los tiempos, 2016 el de una recopilación de los temas antiguos y 2017 de una recopilación general pero más allá del single "Pumpkins United" también de 2017 con ese tema nuevo celebrando la gira reunión la verdad es que ya han pasado casi tres años desde la edición de su último LP, "My God Given Right" de 2015, el décimo séptimo larga duración de la banda en 35 años de historia, a fecha de esta reseña. No he leído nada al respecto pero imagino que pronto nos obsequiarán con una obra nueva ya que nunca han tardado más de tres años en dejarnos un disco nuevo. Mientras esperamos acontecimientos es siempre buena idea rescatar material ya editado de una banda tan icónica, importante e influyente como Helloween, y hoy quiero destacar otro de los temas de su última obra editada, "My god given right", como digo de 2015, en concreto la canción "Stay Crazy", con todos los ingredientes de la banda en su justa medida y de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Nadie puede dudar de la capacidad de esta banda finlandesa de captar la atención de las masas, casi siempre para bien, aunque también para recibir críticas. Yo, realmente nunca me he declarado particularmente seguidor del grupo, primero por unos motivos y luego por otros, la parte inicial me parecía, a nivel compositivo excelente, muy interesante, aunque en lo interpretativo, y ahí es donde mucha gente no estará de acuerdo conmigo, el tema vocal de Tarja siempre me resultó demasiado "indigesto", después, lo que menos me ha ido gustando de la banda ha sido el exceso de orquestación, que a medida que aumentaba la iba alejando de una tesitura más heavy en muchas ocasiones, aunque en lo vocal, para mí, mejorase con Anette olzon, nuevamente mucha gente estará en desacuerdo con ello. Sea como sea, lo que ninguno dudamos es la importancia de este grupo a nivel internacional y la calidad que poseen.Este disco que hoy traigo al blog, "Imaginaerum", de 2011, supone el séptimo en la carrera de Nightwish, el segundo tras la salida de Tarja. Igualmente será el último de Anette Olzon que terminará su historia con la banda poco después, pero es en el que Anette alcanza un equilibrio mayor ya que la obra es la única compuesta para su forma de cantar, recordemos que en su disco anterior, el primero con Anette, "Dark Passion Play" estaba ya escrito para Tarja y no se adaptaba tanto a las cualidades vocales de Anette. ROUNDTRIP  TO  HELL  AND  BACK

 "Relentless, Reckless forever" es el séptimo álbum de la banda finlandesa "Children Of Bodom", y es además uno de esos controvertidos discos, una de esas obras que los más acérrimos seguidores del grupo no han nunca aceptado en lineas generales, una obra que en algunos aspectos se sale de la linea compositiva de anteriores obras de la banda, para muchos para mal, pero que no tenemos que olvidarnos de que se trata de un álbum hecho por un grupo llamado "Children Of Bodom", un nombre unido a una reputación por algo. Así pues, siempre puede rescatarse como mínimo algo de cada obra de un grupo de este calibre, y esta ocasión no iba a ser una excepción. El caso es que hoy quiero dejar en el blog un enlace a su tercer single de la citada "Relentless, Reckless forever" de 2011, en concreto este "Roundtrip to hell and back" del que dejo un enlace a youtube. Es indudable que la banda ha tenido momentos más inspirados que este álbum, y esperemos que sigan teniéndolos, por ejemplo en su próxima obra que parece ser están en proceso de grabación. Sea como sea, cuando hay calidad hay calidad.

Canciones para una vida - Magnus Karlsson's Freefall - Out Of The Dark

OUT  OF  THE  DARK

"Kingdom of rock" es el segundo LP del polifacético músico sueco Magnus Karlsson, con una más que contrastada carrera a lo largo y ancho del planeta metálico. Con una capacidad interpretativa que va desde la guitarra, bajo, teclados hasta lo vocal, se le ha relacionado con bandas tales como Primal Fear, Last Tribe, Allen Lande, Bob Catley, Planet Alliance, Kiske/Somerville, Sterbreaker o The Ferrymen entre otros, además de este, su proyecto en solitario, "Magnus Karlsson Free Fall" del que ya lleva dos entregas. Como sucediese en la primera de ellas, de la que ya he hablado en el blog, en este segundo LP cuenta con la presencia de figuras de primera linea colaborando, sobre todo en lo vocal, así Jorn Lande, Jakob Samuelssen, Joe Lynn Turner, David Readman, o Rick Altzi entre otros. La linea pues compositiva y la idea de la obra es similar a la de su debut, un heavy power metal, y de este segundo disco "Kingdom of rock" de 2015, quiero hoy dejar uno de sus temas, "Out of the dark" con la colaboración de Jakob Samuelssen, cantante de "The Poodles", un tema del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

BAD  BLOOD

Siempre es un buen momento para repasar las discografía de una banda como Amorphis, cada día que pasa con mayor reconocimiento, seguidores y consenso general de que nos encontramos ante uno de los mejores grupos del panorama internacional actual. Además, ahora que estamos a la espera de la próxima salida de la que será su décimo cuarto Lp de estudio, "Queen of time" que se espera para el 18 de mayo, parece que entran más ganas de repasar lo ya hecho por la banda, y en esa situación siempre es genial recurrir a su anterior trabajo, el último editado a fecha de esta reseña, "Under the red cloud" de 2015, sin duda para mi el disco de ese año, y del que se podrían destacar practicamente todos sus temas, y del que hoy quiero dejar en el blog este "Bad Blood", del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Forefather - Masters Of Fate

MASTERS  OF  FATE

Al final siempre que uno le dedica suficiente tiempo a una banda de calidad termina por darse cuenta de que una obra nueva de dicha banda, por lo general, es un seguro de vida. Este "Curse of the cwelled" de 2015, séptima obra de Forefather, nos enseña que a estas alturas de la película el grupo se conoce de maravilla a si mismo, también de donde vienen musicalmente y hacia donde quieren ir en el futuro, en este caso además ratificado con el siguiente EP, "Tales from a cloud-born land" de 2017, obra de la que igualmente ya he hablado en el blog. Siempre me he declarado seguidor absoluto de esta pareja de hermanos ingleses y su concepto musical autodenominado "Anglo saxon metal". Forefather recrea sus atmósferas más desde un enfoque del heavy clásico que del abuso de instrumentos folk, lo que a partes iguales resulta meritorio, honesto y fácil de digerir, sobre todo a los que nos declaramos seguidores del heavy de toda la vida. Canciones para una vida - Valhalore - Across The Frozen Ocean

ACROSS  THE  FROZEN  OCEAN

 Valhalore es una banda australiana que hace más o menos un año editó su primer LP, "Voyage into eternity" cosechando bastante éxito entre la prensa especializada, unas expectativas que ya traían desde tiempos de su primer material allá por 2015. La banda se forma en 2013 y desde sus inicios tenían claro como querían sonar, con un concepto épico, centrado en cuestiones viquingas, un trasfondo folk que acompaña a una banda extensa, seis miembros, con un concepto vocal que salta del death melódico al casi power, y acompañado or instrumentos de viento y clásicos en ocasiones que ayudan a crear una atmósfera más sinfónica sin caer en un abuso de los mismos. Es una banda bastante melódica, en ocasiones hasta un pelin progresiva, pero con una base más sencilla que logra que sus temas te lleguen pronto. Sin duda tienen pinta de dar que hablar en el futuro. Hoy quiero dejar un tema en el blog de su primer EP, "Valhalore", de 2015, de hecho su primer tema grabado que salió en forma de single antes incluso que el EP, la canción "Across the frozen ocean" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube. Volveré a estos chicos para dejar más adelante algún tema de su primer LP.
