Canciones para una vida - Sorcerer - Crimson Cross

CRIMSON  CROSS

 Sorcerer es un grupo sueco de esos que han tenidos dos periodos de actividad desde su formación. Nace la banda en 1988, teniendo un primer periodo compositivo corto, de apenas tres años de duración y en el que tan solo grabaron dos demos. Tras ese tiempo, hasta 1991, comienza la ida de alguno de los miembros formadores del grupo lo que terminaría en la separación prematura de Sorcerer. En 2010, tras la edición de las cintas originales demo en formato CD la banda se reforma, aunque tan solo con uno de los miembros originales que la diesen vida casi dos décadas atrás, concretamente Johnny Hagel, bajista. El concepto siempre ha sido más o menos el mismo, un componente épico, con una base encaminada al power pero desde una perspectiva más oscura, desde un punto de vista compositivo "Doom". Desde su reformación han editado dos LP's y un EP, un LP y un EP en 2015 y su segundo LP en 2017, del que hoy quiero dejar en el blog una de sus canciones, en concreto "Crimson Cross" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Bonfire - Child In Time

CHILD  IN  TIME

Siempre es una buena idea rescatar clásicos de entre los clásicos, y una forma diferente de hacerlo muchas veces es recurrir a una versión de alguna de esas canciones, algo que no deja de ser un homenaje por parte de otra banda, un reconocimiento. Sin duda, en este blog, recurrir al material más mítico de Deep Purple, se queda lejos del rango temporal que abarca, a saber, desde 1980 en adelante, pero, igualmente, una banda como Deep Purple merece por méritos propios que su material aparezca de una forma u otra en un recopilatorio de canciones importantes  en la historia del heavy metal, y al fin y al cabo eso es este humilde blog, un (ya) enorme recopilatorio de enormes canciones. Así pues, aprovechar la ocasión que esta banda, Bofire, me ha brindado este año a través de su disco especial "Legends" en el que hace un recorrido por canciones importantes del rock, heavy y hard rock me parece buena idea. Un disco en que los alemanes parece que tienen la ocasión de presentar en vivo con algunos de los músicos originales de las canciones, lo cual puede sonar un poco a recaudación, porque no. El caso es que hoy quiero dejar en el blog la versión que hacen de una de las canciones que más me gustan de Deep Purple, "Child In Time", originalmente del cuarto LP de los ingleses, de 1970, magníficamente versionada aquí por parte de Bonfire y de la que hoy quiero dejar un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Heidra - A Crown Of Five Fingers

A  CROWN  OF  FIVE  FINGERS

A finales de octubre del presente 2018 ha visto la luz el segundo LP de la banda danesa "Heidra", a la que ya me he referido con anterioridad en este blog. A pesar de tratarse de su segundo LP, sin embargo el grupo lleva tras de si una larga trayectoria enmarcada en un sonido folk viking death melódico que en el primer LP, "Awaiting Dawn" de 2014 ya despertase grandes espectativas de lo que podría llegar a conseguir la banda en el futuro. Sin duda este segundo disco de estudio del que hoy dejo un tema en el blog sirve como confirmación de por donde quieren encaminar su carrera los daneses. Puedes escuchar en la música de Heidra muchas reminiscencias a bandas, estilos, desde clásicos a más nuevos, desde death melódico a una base casi power en ocasiones, con coros a veces épicos y otras veces con cambios levemente "progresivos", siempre con la calidad por estandarte y con un buen equilibrio compositivo que les hace bastante completos y sus discos fáciles de disfrutar. Canciones para una vida - Guardians Of Time - Valhalla Awaits

VALHALLA  AWAITS

De nuevo traigo al blog este quinto LP de la banda noruega "Guardians of time", del presente 2018, una de las obras, en mi humilde opinión del citado año, completa y de nivel alto, como por otra parte nos tiene acostumbrados este gran grupo demasiado desconocido a pesar de su calidad y del largo ya periodo de tiempo que llevan en activo, (desde 1997). Para ilustrar ese apelativo de completo, hoy quiero dejar en el blog otra de las canciones de la obra, en este caso "Valhalla Awaits", donde la banda hace una pequeña incursión en el concepto death sobre todo en lo vocal aunque con una base power como es su terreno y zona de confort compositiva. Desde luego a las muchas virtudes del grupo si añadimos al versatilidad estaríamos hablando de un ejemplo más de banda en que sus méritos están muy lejos de verse recompensados con el reconocimiento merecido, una vieja historia en esto de la música. Canciones para una vida - Arch Enemy - Reason To Believe

REASON  TO  BELIEVE


Está clarísimo que la banda sueca "Arch Enemy" ha llegado a un punto de su carrera en el que llegan posiblemente a más público que nunca, con un estilo muy propio y definido, abriendo más las puertas a otros posibles seguidores que incluso podrían acercarse al grupo desde gustos como el power incluso. Seguramente los fans iniciales y de siempre de la banda verán esta porgresiva apertura sonora con malos ojos pero muchos otros seguidores se han ido sumando a ese concepto compositivo más para todos los públicos a través de un sonido más comercial si se quiere. Lo que es indudable es el gran resultado final de lo que en la actualidad es una obra de esta banda, como fue el caso de "Will to power", la undécima obra de estudio del grupo editada el pasado 2017, y de la que hoy quiero dejar otro de los temas en el blog, concretamente este "Reason to believe" del que el grupo ha editado recientemente un video clip del que dejo una entrada a youtube hoy en el blog.

Canciones para una vida - Brymir - Ride On, Spirit

RIDE  ON, SPIRIT

 Desde luego parece que el nivel de actividad de la banda finlandesa Brynir ha ido poco a poco en aumento, sin duda teniendo en cuenta lo que tardaron en editar su segunda obra de estudio tras su debut en 2011 con el magnífico "Breathe fire to the sun". Fue 2016 el año escogido para esa reactivación desde la perspectiva de la publicación de material, con dos singles y un LP durante ese 2016, y con dos singles más en este 2018. Igualmente estoy notando una mejora compositiva desde el segundo LP, ya que ambos singles de este año me han dado mejores sensaciones y una cierta vuelta al concepto de su primer LP que, personalmente me encanta. Canciones para una vida - Kobra And The Lotus - Soldier

SOLDIER

 Un poco fuera de mi estilo quizá, pero hoy quiero también, por que no, romper una lanza en favor de las nuevas formas de enfocar el heavy metal, con una capa más deslumbrante si se quiere, un barniz en forma de sonido más acorde con los tiempos que corren, o una estética igualmente en esa línea. Para ello recurro a los canadienses "Kobra and the lotus", por supuesto de semejante cantera, la canadiense, siguen saliendo perlas como toda la vida ha venido sucediendo, de la mano de la calidad. El enfoque pues parece acertado por lo que este grupo va cosechando hasta la fecha, formados en 2009 han editado, a fecha de esta reseña, un total de cinco LP's y dos EP's. Con el respaldo actual de "Napalm Records" parecen tener un futuro brillante con el beneplácito del gran público. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog uno de los temas de la banda, en concreto una canción de su tercer LP "High Priestess", de 2014, uno de sus singles, "Soldier" que creo que resume bien el concepto de la banda, y de la que dejo un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.

Canciones para una vida - Pretty Maids - Queen Of Dreams

QUEEN  OF  DREAMS

Aprovechando la reedición del primer LP de la banda "red hot and heavy", hecho que se ha producido este 2018, traigo hoy al blog la magnífica obra de los daneses que data de 1984. En este disco, casi más que en ninguno, seguramente por tratarse de la época de que se trata, nos encontramos con unos Pretty Maids más cercanos a un heavy sin más, menos cercanos al hard que siempre en realidad han ido bordeando a lo largo de su dilatada carrera. Sin embargo, de lo que no hay duda alguna es de que este grupo ha sobrevivido durante, va para cuarenta años, lo ha hecho debido a la calidad como constante en todas y cada una de las obras editadas, a veces un heavy más crudo, otras más melódico, otras más hard de orientación americana y otras casi cercanas al power en el diseños de los riffs, siempre, sea cual sea la elección, el resultado es bueno. Basta con escuchar los inicios del grupo para darse cuenta de dicha calidad, como en la canción que traigo hoy, "Queen of dreams", como digo de 1984, y de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Running Wild - Soldiers Of Hell

SOLDIERS  OF  HELL

Siguiendo con esta semana de clásicos, es obligado recurrir siempre a uno de los maestros en esto del heavy, "Running Wild", otra de las influencias para tantas bandas y que a lo largo de su historia como banda nos han dejado numerosos momentos irrepetibles que para siempre estarán entre los temas clásicos de los clásicos. Hoy quiero recurrir de nuevo a la primera de las obras de los alemanes, Con este disco se pusieron en la escena internacional, con un estilo por aquel entonces un tanto diferente a lo que vendría posteriormente pero con las bases absolutas de lo que terminaría por ser la marca "Running wild". Estamos ante un heavy speed metal demoledor en una obra recomendable en su conjunto y de la que hoy dek¡jo en el blog este "Soldiers of Hell", sonido de la vieja escuela, de 1984, 100% autentico.

Canciones para una vida - Judas Priest - Love Bites

LOVE  BITES

Parece que la cosa va de clásicos esta semana, y desde luego si vamos a hablar de bandas clásicas jamás debe faltar Judas en la lista. Otro de esos grupos. como ayer mismo decía de Iron Maiden, que siempre están a la altura, de una importancia absoluta en la historia del heavy metal, uno de los pioneros entre los pioneros y que, a juzgar por su último trabajo editado hace solo unos meses, siguen teniendo mucho que ofrecer a pesar de los años que llevan en activo. De nuevo quiero hoy recuperar uno de sus temas clásicos, hoy una canción de su ya décimo LP, a pesar de estar tan solo hablando del año 84, pero es que estos tíos llevan en lo alto desde siempre. "Defenders of the faith", un disco que habla por si mismo, dentro del marco de su propia discografía, tanto como del heavy metal en general, y del que hoy quiero dejar la canción "Love Bites", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube. "Judas Priest", poco más que añadir.

Canciones para una vida - Iron Maiden - Two Minutes To Midnight

TWO  MINUTES  TO  MIDNIGHT

Es siempre un placer retornar una vez tras otra a una de esas bandas que son como un seguro de vida para encontrar todo tipo de sensaciones positivas, más aún si nos remontamos a los inicios musicales de la misma, época que sirvió por derecho absoluto para que alcanzasen el estatus de mito. Por supuesto son "Los Maiden", y una de sus importantísimas obras, su quinto LP "Powerslave" que sirviese posteriormente para editar el demoledor "Live after death" en su gira mundial del citado disco, una escusa perfecta para una de las obras más impresionantes que he tenido el placer de escuchar en vivo, ya que los albumes en concierto no suelen ser de mis predilectos, para eso está el acudir a los conciertos "in situ", pero como digo, siempre hay excepciones, como es el caso. En definitiva, un tema más de una de las bandas más grandes que ha habido, hay y seguramente habrá, en uno de los temas más single de ese cuarto disco, "Two minutes to midnight", aunque claro, toda la obra es para enmarcar, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Euphoreon - Euphoria

EUPHORIA

 Euphoreon es una banda de la que ya hablé en su momento en el blog, un grupo de origen neozelandés y alemán cuyo sonido se enmarca en un death melódico de altísima calidad. Tras la edición de su debut en 2011, "Euphoreon" como el nombre de la banda, ahora, finalmente y tras 7 años de espera nos regalan su segundo esfuerzo musical en forma de LP. Como ya he comentado en alguna ocasión en el blog, este tipo de bandas, desconocidas en general, no en pocas ocasiones ponen una sonrisa en la cara a todo aquel melómano sediento de material que descubrir. En esta ocasión estamos ante una banda en la que dos miembros se reparten todas y cada una de las funciones que normalmente corresponderían a al menos cinco músicos, y además se encargan de la "Auto producción" de la obra. El resultado es simplemente interesante, limpio y óptimo para todo amante del género al que le guste la calidad. En esta segunda entrega pues, encontramos una continuación fiel al concepto compositivo e interpretativo de la primera, y de este segundo LP quiero hoy dejar en el blog la canción "Euphoria", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube. Esperemos que en el futuro la banda tenga algo más de continuidad, visto el buen hacer que se gastan.

SONS  OF  ODIN

Nuevo repaso a la última obra de estudio de los eternos "Saxon", una de las bandas más sinceras de la vieja guardia del metal internacional que en su décimo tercer disco de estudio demuestran una vez más que a estas alturas de la película no van a ofrecer otra cosa que sabor 100% Saxon. Así pues, las virtudes esperadas y esperables de una obra de semejante banda están completamente presentes en este su nuevo retoño, dejando muchos destellos de calidad como no podía ser de otra manera. Es evidente que quien no sea seguidor y a quien no le haya gustado la carrera de los ingleses a lo largo de las pasadas cuatro décadas no encontrará disfrute en este nuevo disco, e igualmente al contrario, ya que la fidelidad del sonido Saxon en este disco es alta.Como muestra dejo hoy otra de las canciones de la obra, "Sons Of Odin", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Avenger - Battlefield

BATTLEFIELD

"Avenger", los alemanes, esconden tras ese nombre los inicios de una de esas bandas que en la actualidad no necesitan de presentación alguna, una banda que no es otra que "Rage". Ahora que "Rage" ha echado la mirada atrás para "Re fundirse" en su formación primigenia bajo el nombre de "Refuge" parece buen momento para mirar a los inicios mismos de la banda, que como digo, surgió del germen de estos "Avenger" a los que hoy quiero dejar en el blog. Formados en 1983, pasearon su power speed metal por las escenas underground europeas hasta 1986 en que deciden cambiar su denominación por "Rage". En ese tiempo editan un LP en 1985, "Prayers of steel" y un EP en 1985 también, "Depraved to black", suficiente como para mostrar a todo aquel que les conoció el tremendo potencial que desembocaría en el fenómeno que fue, y aun continua siendo uno de los grandes de la escena internacional como "Rage". Peavy Wagner a la voz y bajo, y Jorg Michael a la batería son argumento suficiente para despertar el interés de todo metalhead que se precie. Dejo hoy una de las canciones de su LP debut, y a la postre único, como prueba de su potencial posteriormente suficientemente demostrado, en concreto el tema que abre la obra "Battlefield", del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Hammer King - Battle Of Wars

BATTLE  OF  WARS

Hammer King es otra de esas bandas que van cogiendo velocidad de crucero en lo que es su carrera musical. Con la salida del tercer LP, "Poseidon will carry us home", este recién pasado 5 de octubre, los alemanes han editado tres discos en apenas 4 años, y persisten en su concepto inicial que va picando de aquí y de allá de diferentes fuentes para dar forma a un sonido ya personal y reconocible. De la misma manera el gancho de sus canciones se va afinando en general, y aunque jamás dirías de su música que sea la más técnica, la más original o la más vendible si que creo que resulta bastante efectiva consiguiendo seguramente su objetivo al llegar a la gente. De cualquier manera aún están lejos de llegar a todo "metalhead" planetario, y con una fórmula nada original en el fondo es difícil que terminen llegando a ser unos super ventas, pero no se les puede negar la persistencia en su concepto de lo que debe ser un disco de power metal. Esta tercera obra es un buen ejemplo de todo lo que digo, y como ejemplo quiero dejar en el blog la canción "Battle of wars", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Guardians Of Time - Raise The Eagle

RAISE  THE  EAGLE

Quinta obra de los noruegos "Guardians Of Time", una impresionante banda que desde luego no ha cosechado el éxito y reconocimiento que su calidad merece. Este nuevo disco "Tearing up the wolrd" ha sido puesto a la venta el pasado 19 de octubre y sucede al también impresionante "Rage and fire" de 2015. Estamos ante un power metal de altísimos quilates, con un personal estilo que puede traernos reminiscencias a bandas clásicas dentro del power europeo, o a músicos concretos como "Iron savior" si se quiere por ejemplo, o destellos al material de gamma ray o helloween, aunque no de manera homogénea. Sin duda es un grupo que ha decidido ser fiel a su sonido y en ello están. Una cierta evolución si podemos encontrar, sobre todo si miramos al inicio mismo de la banda, pero que no es algo demasiado acusado, siendo la contundencia dentro del estilo una de las señas de identidad, con una mezcla perfecta entre velocidad, coros y melodía. Un paso más adelante para esta fantástica banda que se ha sacado de la manga uno de los mejores trabajos dentro del power, de este 2018 de lo que llevo escuchado. Canciones para una vida - Dragony - If It Bleeds We Can Kill It

IF  IT  BLEEDS  WE CAN  KILL IT

Parece que la carrera musical de los austriacos "Dragony" coge velocidad de crucero con la edición de su tercer larga duración "Masters of the multiverse" salido a la venta el pasado 12 de octubre. Sin duda este trabajo editado bajo el sello "Limb Music" es una confirmación para la banda en su estilo power de corte europeo, más de lo mismo a lo que nos tenían acostumbrados en su material anterior, un sonido híbrido por ejemplo entre bandas como Freedom Call y Sabaton, con su temática épico fantástica y su continua redundancia en lo melódico. Va, ya la banda, hacia su primera década de existencia y se nota que están a gusto en el nicho sonoro que han escogido para desarrollar su carrera, con una cuidada producción siempre que hace de la escucha de su material nuevo también un ejercicio fácil sobre todo si lo tuyo es el power. Canciones para una vida - Sonata Arctica - I'm Haunted

I'M  HAUNTED

Ahora que la banda finlandesa "Sonata Arctica" ha anunciado que entran al estudio a grabar el que será su décimo LP de estudio, esperado para el próximo 2019 es un buen momento para echar la vista atrás al material que compone su historia personal, una controvertida historia musical llena de defensores y detractores casi a partes iguales, y en esta ocasión quiero traer al blog una de esas canciones que ilustran lo que digo, hablan de una de esas bandas capaces de lo mejor musicalmente, siempre mezclado con una forma de llevar su carrera de una manera equivocada, quizá con un hambre excesivo de ventas que les ha hecho gestionar sus tiempos mal en mi opinión, demasiados singles, EP's, recopilatorios o directos, sin olvidar algún que otro directo y ediciones especiales japonesas etc que han puesto a prueba en más de una ocasión la paciencia de los seguidores. El cambio estilístico desde los inicios frescos que deslumbraron al planeta metálico al completo al actual estilo más progresivo y personal han hecho que muchos, (entre los que me incluyo), pierdan la fe en lo que pueda venir de la banda. Hoy dejo la reedición del magnífico debut  de la banda "Ecliptica" de 1999, en su versión de la celebración del 15º aniversario de la misma, en su edición japonesa, (muy en la línea Sonata este intento de vender), de donde se puede extraer esta canción inédita "I'm Haunted", buena canción, y poco difundida en general, que una vez más muestra cual sería el camino compositivo apropiado para esta banda, veremos cual será el camino escogido para el próximo material que vendrá.

Canciones para una vida - Human Fortress - Under The Spell

UNDER  THE  SPELL

Desde Alemania una vez más no llega una banda, de la que ya he hablado anteriormente en el blog, y con una trayectoria ya notable que abarca desde 1999 hasta la actualidad. Human Fortress ha editado en este tiempo de existencia un total de cinco LP's, realmente no es una discografía muy prolífica, sin embargo, y haciendo notar que lo último del grupo no ha sido de mi agrado, si que mirando atrás a la historia compositiva de la banda cabe bien poner el título de variada y llena de calidad a la obra en general de la banda. Parte de la falta de consistencia a la hora de editar muchos discos o hacerlo al menos con mayor continuidad puede deberse a los muchos cambios en la formación del grupo que por otra parte siempre ha tenido detrás el apoyo de grandes discográficas tales como "Massacre" o "AFM". Hoy quiero retornar a su tercer LP, "Eternal Empire", de 2008, uno de sus mejores trabajos en mi opinión, para rescatar otro tema del mismo, que explica bien esa capacidad de la banda de experimentar, de variar, en este caso acercándose un poquito incluso al sonido de bandas como "Amorphis" en este "Under the spell" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Cacumen - Games Of Loneliness

GAMES  OF  LONELINESS

Hablar de "Cacumen" es, para la mayor parte de la gente, hablar de una desconocida banda, pero a mucha de esa gente si se le habla de "Bonfire" sabe al instante de lo que estamos hablando. "Cacumen" fue el germen de la banda melódica alemana "Bonfire" que más adelante tendría buenos destellos internacionales a alto nivel, y que como "Cacumen" apenas llegaran a destacar. Esa etapa de la banda dura desde 1972, año de su formación, hasta 1985, en que se reconvierten en "Bonfire", nombre bajo el que siguen en la actualidad. La etapa "Cacumen" estaba más encaminada hacia el heavy metal - hard n heavy, y sin duda alguna queda patente en su sonido que el espejo musical en que se miraban eran sus compatriotas "Scorpions". El cambio de nombre de la banda conllevaría un cambio también de estilo mucho más en onda del hard americano tan preponderante en la segunda mitad de la década de los 80. Como Cacumen editan un total de 3 LP's y un EP entre los años 1981 y 1984. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog una canción de su segundo disco de estudio, "Bad Widow" de 1983, seguramente su mejor trabajo, y de él quiero dejar la canción "Games of loneliness", donde hacen patente esa "imitación" de la fórmula "Scorpions" en una de las disciplinas preferidas por aquellos como eran las baladas, aquí perfectamente recreada por parte de Cacumen, canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Terra Atlantica - Poseidon's Wrath

POSEIDON'S  WRATH

Justo en estos días se cumple un año de la salida a la venta del primer trabajo de estudio de los alemanes "Terra Atlantica", un grupo en clave de power metal de corte europeo que inicia su camino musical como banda de una buena manera en un tiempo repleto de bandas que inundan el mercado internacional. Es igualmente indudable que no están inventando nada nuevo, y es que eso es algo realmente cada vez más difícil de conseguir, sin embargo su virtud es hacer bien lo que se proponen dentro del camino clásico compositivo dentro del citado campo del power metal. Ya dejé hace unos meses un tema de la obra y hoy quiero dejar otra de las canciones que más me han gustado de este debut, concretamente "Poseidon's Wrath", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.
