SHIELDS  OF  GOLD

Finalmente ya está aquí la esperadísima, (para mí), tercera obra del genial Walter "Crom" Grosse con su banda de un solo miembro "Crom". Este tercer disco "When northmen die" saldrá a la venta de forma oficial este próximo 1 de Diciembre y para la ocasión ha complementado la formación de la banda con Seraph a la batería (de la banda "Dark Fortress" de la que ya he hablado en el blog), y tambien de la misma banda el cantante Paymon colaborará en un par de temas así como en los coros. La edición normal incluirá 12 temas y la edición especial tres bonus de veriones de Old man's child, Kiss y A-Ha. Por lo que se puede escuchar en su tema adelanto, "Shields of gold" nos encontramos ante un tema que bien podría haber sido incluido en su primer LP, el alucinante "Vengeance", de 2008, esperemos que el resto de canciones sigan por ese sendero y nos encontraremos ante una de las obras de este 2017. Canciones para una vida - Angel Witch - Angel Witch

ANGEL  WITCH

 Hay discos que se hacen importantes por los más diversos motivos, unos por la composición en si misma, pero otros además llevan añadida una carga de influencia o impulso para una movimiento concreto o movimientos musicales y bandas posteriores, y en este apartado podríamos incluir a este "Angel Witch" de los propios Angel Witch. Según muchas opiniones estos británicos pueden ser considerados como los impulsores del sonido de la NWOBHM, algo que a título personal me parece una apreciación muy osada, ya que no creo que ese irrepetible movimiento que trascendió las fronteras del Reino Unido pueda atribuirse a una sola banda que influyó a las demás, sino que más bien siempre he pensado que fue fruto de un caldo de cultivo especial que desembocó en esa explosión de bandas a comienzos de los 80 que encabezaron grandes nombres pero que tenían detrás a un gran ejercito de bandas anónimas que incluso hoy en día sigo descubriendo. Sea como fuere, Angel Witch si que nació en el momento indicado para ser cabeza de lanza en ese movimiento de la NWOBHM, y su influencia en bandas posteriores y hermanas así como la calidad son algo simplemente innegable. Hoy quiero pues volver al sonido de ese grupo, y en concreto al de su debut, "Angel witch" de 1980, una de sus obras más celebradas y del que hoy extraigo otro de sus temas clásicos, "Angel witch", del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Dark Star - Lady Of Mars

LADY  OF  MARS

De nuevo un paseo por los inicios de nuestro sonido para rescatar a otra de esas bandas que se quedó en el camino y que además se puede sacar del eterno movimiento de la NWOBHM. Se trata de los británicos Dark Star, un grupo que se mantuvo una década en la escena en activo, periodo durante el que editaron dos LP's y un EP de un heavy metal incipiente y del todo interesante, como decía más arriba enclavado dentro del sonido de la NWOBHM, con muchos de sus clichés, con algún que otro guiño al sonido hard-heavy, un tanto Rainbow o Thin Lizzy si se quiere, de hecho al separarse la banda la mayoría de los miembros se enrolaron en un proyecto enfocado al blues. Dark Star comienza su andadura en 1978 bajo el nombre de "Berlin" pero a comienzos de los 80 lo cambian a "Dark Star" con el que funcionarían el resto de su carrera. Hoy me quiero referir a su material primero y quiero dejar en el blog una canción extraída de su EP "Lady of Mars" de 1980, en concreto el que da nombre al EP, "Lady of Mars" que después se incluiría también en su primer larga duración "Dark Star" de 1981, una canción este "Lady of mars" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Beast In Black - Beast In Black

BEAST  IN  BLACK

Segundo adelanto de la banda de nueva formación "Beast in Black" con Anton Kabanen ex de Battle Beast a los mandos, un grupo del que he hablado hace poco en el blog. No repetiré todo lo dicho en la anterior entrada referente a su primer adelanto de la inminente obra "Berserker", tan solo traigo hoy el segundo single a modo de confirmación de lo que uno se puede esperar de esta obra, siempre de la mano de la calidad y que con el apoyo promocional de nuclear blast detrás será sin duda uno de los discos importantes a nivel de ventas de 2017. Es evidente la calidad como digo de este genial guitarrista finlandés que parece destinado en el futuro a ser otro "rey Midas" tipo Kai Hansen o Tobias Sammet que transformen en oro todo asunto musical que toquen, veremos. De momento dejo hoy en el blog un enlace a su clip oficial de este "Beast in black" homónimo al nombre de la banda, esperemos que sea un buen termómetro de la temperatura musical que nos espera en la obra por salir.

Canciones para una vida - Gloryhammer - Wizards

WIZARDS

Muchas veces podemos intuir, además de por otros muchos motivos, la grandeza de una banda o de un músico por la grandeza de los "descartes" musicales que hacen en una obra, esos temas que supuestamente se meten como bonus track después, también en ocasiones para vender más discos a los fans que siguen comprando discos y que deciden pagar un poco más cara una edición especial por ese tipo de cosas. Pues bien, Christopher Bowes, la mente tras Gloryhammer, (y Alestorm), se ha marcado en su debut con esta banda uno de esos "descartes" que ya quisieran muchas bandas tener como tema fuerte en una obra, y es que este disco sigue resultandome increible, el mejor de sus dos obras hasta la fecha de esta reseña, y este "Wizards" bien merece sin duda pagar un par de Euros más por la edición que la incluya, un tema corto pero directo y del que hoy dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Blue Oyster Cult - Heavy Metal The Black And Silver

HEAVY  METAL  THE  BLACK  AND  SILVER

 Siempre ha habido bandas en la escena internacional de muchos tipos, por ejemplo algunas que no evolucionan mucho musicalmente permaneciendo siempre fieles a un sonido original, u otras que evolucionan su sonido, en ocasiones cambiando tanto su estilo original que apenas se puede reconocer su sonido original. El caso de la banda que hoy nos ocupa, Blue Oyster Cult, es uno de estos últimos, incluso uno de esos casos extremos en el que la banda atraviesa por varios o muchos estilos diferentes a lo largo de su vida. Estos neoyorquinos se formaron a finales de los 60 con una vocación al hard rock psicodélico que tanto se estilaba en esos años, un estilo que fue evolucionando hacia el hard rock progresivo, el heavy metal o el rock psicodélico posterior. evidentemente hoy quiero fijar mi atención sobre su época más cercana a una especie de Hard heavy, que coincidió en el tiempo con los inicios de la década de los 80, y que se alargó durante un par de obras, "Cultosaurus erectus" de 1980 y "Fire of the unknown origin" de 1981, del que hoy quiero destacar un tema en el blog. Esta obra, "Fire of the unknown origin" es reconocida en general como un disco maduro en lo compositivo y un punto de inflexión en su propuesta sonora que a partir de esta obra caminaría hacia una propuesta más suave. Canciones para una vida - Kambrium - Spellbound By A Nightmare

SPELLBOUND  BY  A  NIGHTMARE

A medio camino de muchas partes se encuentra la propuesta musical de esta banda, Kambrium, que ya he traído al blog en alguna ocasión. Estilisticamente se prodía etiquetar a este grupo aleman como un death metal melódico, de vocación épica, aunque no siempre, pues su estructura musical nos recuerda también a la del power metal de corte europeo, sobre todo en las partes en que la banda utiliza voz limpia. En definitiva estamos ante una de esas bandas que pueden traerte reminiscencias de muchas otras bandas, de diversos estilos, lo que habla de una buena versatilidad siempre de la mano de la calidad. Kambrium se forma en 2005 y sigue en activo en la actualidad, (a fecha de esta reseña), editando en este periodo de actividad tres LP's y un EP. Hoy quiero traer al blog un tema de su segundo larga duración, "Dark Reveries", de 2013, un disco para descubrir, con grandes temas y un nivel general en la obra bueno, y del que hoy quiero destacar este "Spellbound by a nightmare" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Warhead - Warhead

WARHEAD

Otro destello más de la prolífica escena británica de comienzos de los 80, que como todos sabemos dio tal cantidad de bandas que materialmente era imposible que todas tuviesen espacio y repercusión a nivel internacional, más allá de la calidad que atesorasen o no, y es que estamos de nuevo en la eterna cuestión de si calidad es igual a ventas o no. Tal movimiento que tuvo que ser englobado bajo el nombre de NWOBHM parió también a estos "More", una banda que cumple muchos de las premisas de otras bandas hermanas de la época, incluyendo la brevedad de su carrera, la poca repercusión internacional así como la calidad innegable que hace que las otras dos premisas anteriores sean dificiles de entender. Los londinenses "More" se forman en 1979 y tienen una carrera que dura apenas cuatro años en los que sin embargo si que hay una producción musical considerable, con dos LP's en ese corto periodo que demostraban bien el potencial del grupo. El primero de ellos, de título "Warhead" ve la luz en 1981 y de él quiero dejar hoy un tema en el blog, en concreto el que da nombre a la obra, "Warhead" y del que dejo un enlace a youtube. Desde luego el repaso a la dorada época de los 80 se antoja una labor al tiempo inavarcable y apasionante.

Canciones para una vida - Helloween - Pumpkins United

PUMPKINS  UNITED

Está fuera de toda duda la capacidad casi absoluta que una banda del tamaño musical de Helloween tiene para captar la atención universal del gran público, más si meten elementos sentimentales tales como la reunión de todas las épocas de la banda en un solo escenario, o en un solo estudio. Desde luego ese es en si mismo caramelo suficiente como para que uno se lance con, a partes iguales miedo e ilusión, a escuchar el material que pueda surgir de ese experimento. Si todo ello deriva en una gira con ellos de la mano, de hecho la parte posible físicamente de la formación de los "Keeper" estará de nuevo al mismo tiempo en un escenario, sumando a por ejemplo Deris, un reclamo más que suficiente para que se convierta en uno de los eventos musicales del año. Igualmente es el caldo de cultivo perfecto para que la banda edite un super recopilatorio a principios de noviembre con el título "Sweet seductions" donde se hace un repaso completo a su carrera a lo largo de tres cd's y un dvd con sus clips. Otra operación perfecta de marketing que a más de uno le alegrará las vacaciones, en lo sentimental, (fans), y en lo económico, (banda y discográfica). Sea como fuere el grupo además ha grabado un tema especial para la ocasión, una muestra más de la perfecta ingeniería de venta de un grupo de este tamaño, no tanto desde el punto de vista compositivo, que a mí me ha parecido un tanto normal, sino de la practicidad y el diseño comercial. Hoy quiero traer al blog ese tema por todo lo anteriormente citado, más que por lo musical como digo, aunque también, al fin donde se junten talentos de esta categoría siempre hay que estar. Canciones para una vida - Elvenking - Draugen's Maelstrom

DRAUGEN'S  MAELSTROM

Novena obra de estudio de los italianos con su particular y personal visión musical, y una demostración más de que, si bien el sonido de la banda siempre ha denotado calidad y creatividad, también es cierto que lejos están de su sonido primigenio de comienzos del presente siglo, época en que la banda comenzó a despuntar con su "Heathenreel" de 2001, año en que les descubrí y que captaron toda mi atención en lo que entonces era una incipiente carrera que prometía grandes cosas. Tras estos casi 20 años de periplo por la escena musical Elvenking ha ido mostrando, en mi humilde opinión, luces y sombras, con obras más o menos completas, que jamás lograron alcanzar el potencial que prometían en su primera obra, su techo compositivo para mí, a pesar de que en ocasiones como en "The winter wake" se acercaran bastante a su mejor nivel. Tras constatar que la mayoría de las "luces" se juntaron al inicio de su carrera, si que debo decir que siempre ofrecen, en cada una de sus obras, al menos un destello de la calidad que si poseen, el caso es que al final sus obras se me terminan por hacer un tanto aburridas en conjunto. Mirando pues esos destellos continuos de calidad afronto esta nueva obra, "secrets of the magick grimoire" cuya salida se espera para el 10 de noviembre, con la esperanza de que sea un trabajo completo y bueno en general. Canciones para una vida - Orden Ogan - Vampire In Ghost Town

VAMPIRE  IN  GHOST  TOWN

Una vez más por mi parte solo pueden salir buenas opiniones sobre el nuevo material de esta bandaza, Orden Ogan, como en muchas otras ocasiones he defendido ya una de las mejores bandas de power de la escena internacional actual, con ese punto personal e inconfundible que le haría  merecedores de un mayor reconocimiento, que no es que sea poco tampoco, pero creo que por méritos propios podrían encabezar casi cualquier cartel de festivales de cualquier esquina del planeta metálico. es evidente que siento debilidad por este gran grupo, que no hace sino perpetuarse en su buen criterio musical así como crecer y crecer, y es que desde el inicio de su carrera que por fortuna descubrí al instante de producirse, hasta este quinto disco de estudio que ha visto la luz este 2017, me parece que la banda ha ido siempre de acierto en acierto, y esta quinta ocasión no podía ser diferente, con una obra completa, de calidad y en la que uno puede ir saltando de tema en tema sin miedo a encontrar relleno y bajada de nivel. Buen ejemplo es este "Vampire in ghost town", temazo del que hoy quiero dejar un enlace a youtube. Una vez más, Orden Ogan es "Tiro seguro".

Canciones para una vida - Keldian - Blood Red Dawn

BLOOD  RED  DAWN

 Primer adelanto del que será cuarto album de la banda noruega Keldian, y que verá de forma oficial la luz a finales del presente mes de Octubre. Para todos aquellos que ya conozcan a la banda este tema de adelanto promete que la nueva obra vuelva a ahondar más aún en el concepto compositivo que ha caracterizado su sonido en una trayectoria de más ya de diez años. Melodías con preponderancia del sonido de teclados pero con una estructura de construcción de los temas muy power. Todo en esta banda está absolutamente cuidado, cada detalle destila calidad y eso se nota en el resultado final haciendo que los que disfrutamos del sonido de Keldian estemos ya deseando escuchar el material nuevo por completo. Como decía más arriba, de momento habrá que ir conformándose con este primer adelanto, "Blood red dawn",del que dejo un enlace a Youtube de su lyric vídeo oficial, toda una declaración de intenciones de por donde siguen yendo los tiros musicales de Keldian.
