 Décimo cuarto disco de estudio de los alemanes Kreator una banda que sigue dando pasos adelante en su ya dilatadísima carrera, y siempre parece ser que en la buena dirección. Llegado ya este momento en la carrera de este tipo de bandas puede suceder casi cualquier cosa, y en Kreator parece estar habiendo una madurez absolutamente lucida en lo musical, con una vuelta al sonido original de la banda tras un flirteo en los 90 con fusiones industriales, hoy en día, y concretamente con esta obra, nos encontramos a una banda thrash de altisimo nivel, que se conocen de memoria y saben perfectamente hacia donde quieren ir, composiciones perfectas, de impecable producción y ejecución adornan por completo una enérgica obra que destaca como uno de los mejores discos de este 2017. Desde luego en esta linea tenemos Kreator para rato, y esperemos de hecho que así sea. Canciones para una vida - Gamma Ray - Follow Me

FOLLOW  ME

Otro de los temas destacables de este buen disco de Gamma Ray, "No world order", el séptimo de la banda, de 2001, puede ser este "Follow me", aunque creo que para la ocasión los de Kai Hansen se marcaron una obra buena en su conjunto. Con una linea argumental basada en un libro de Mark Brauneis acerca de los "Iluminati" la obra se va desgranando con acierto y contundencia habiendo una cierta vuelta hacia las raíces de la banda. Aquí nos encontramos igualmente ante un Kai Hansen perfecto en funciones vocales con una interpretación genial muy acorde a su linea. Como digo recomendable de principio a fin demostrando que por esos años eran de las bandas que encabezaban la ola power internacional, sin duda. Volviendo al tema "Follow me", una canción que con el apoyo de los teclados entra como un tiro en tu cerebro desde la primera escucha y ese inconfundible sello Gamma Ray hace que sea un tema 100% recomendable, un tanto "Freedom Call" si se quiere. Canciones para una vida - Lonewolf - Through Fire Ice And Blood

THROUGH  FIRE  ICE  AND  BLOOD

Noveno álbum de estudio de los franceses Lonewolf, una banda de heavy power metal cuya carrera parece aumentar en velocidad de producción en los últimos años, donde han encontrado una identidad sonora más próxima al power metal y un reconocimiento al alza con su sonido un tanto de la escuela sueca "Hammerfalliana" hibridada en lo vocal por ese ramalazo "Gravediggeriano" del cantante que hace de su escucha algo grande si te van ambas bandas citadas. Como digo, parece que el grupo ha alcanzado velocidad de crucero con la edición de cinco discos de estudio en apenas cinco años, algo cada vez más raro de ver. coincidiendo practicamente con la entrada en el grupo del cantante actual Rikki Mannhard en 2010. Una vez más no nos encontramos ante ningún invento nuevo, pero si ante una interpretación del power de corte clásico europeo al más alto nivel, con todo lo esperable en una banda de tal estilo y muy, en este disco, en la línea de lo que venían haciendo en las pasadas obras. Valga como ejemplo ilustrativo el tema que dejo en el blog, su single de adelanto "Through fire ice and blood", del que dejo un enlace a youtube de su lyric video oficial.

Canciones para una vida - Samson - Danger Zone

DANGER  ZONE

De nuevo traigo al blog la cuarta obra de los británicos Samson, liderados por el guitarrista Paul Samson, uno de los muchos promotores e impulsores de la NWOBHM que tan gran influencia desarrollaron sobre las generaciones coetáneas y venideras a nivel internacional.Sin duda con este "Before the storm" nos encontramos ante un disco que merece la pena en su conjunto y para el que Samson tuvo que incluir algún cambio en la formación, principalmente por la salida de Dickinson para enrolarse en Iron Maiden, algo que se produjo tras editar su anterior obra "Shock Tactics", siendo sustituido por Nicky Moore, impecable en sus formas, aunque claro, las comparaciones siempre son odiosas y aquel que se compare con Bruce Dickinson en lo que a cantar heavy metal se refiere tiene muchas papeletas de salir mal parado. De cualquier forma, estamos ante un discazo de 1982, perfecto para desempolvar o para descubrir y poner una pieza más en el puzzle global metálico, y es que como siempre digo la dorada época de los 80 explica muchas cosas que han sucedido posteriormente en nuestro sonido. Canciones para una vida - Orden Ogan - Come With Me To The Other Side

COME  WITH  ME  TO  THE  OTHER  SIDE

 Otra de las ventajas que tiene ser un músico reconocido y polivalente es la posibilidad que tienes en otras labores tales como la producción de conocer distintas maneras de hacer que las habitualmente utilizadas al componer en tu banda madre, y además el poder ponerse en contacto con otros músicos y otras visiones musicales lo que enriquece tu propio sonido y te permite acceder a colaboraciones  especiales en no pocas ocasiones. Por todos es sabido la tendencia de Seeb Levermann, lider de Orden Ogan de producir a bandas nuevas o consolidadas, y muchas veces eso se traduce como digo en colaboraciones especiales posteriores para su propio material con Orden Ogan. Realmente no se si es el caso de esta colaboración de Liv Kristine, o si simplemente es algo casual en que Orden Ogan buscaban darle otro toque a uno de sus temas, el caso es que la canción de su último trabajo "Gunmen" que hoy quiero dejar en el blog, "Come with me to the other side" cuenta con las virtudes vocales de la noruega, y si bien jamás me he declarado seguidor ni defensor del estilo pseudo operístico de tantas bandas nacidas al calor del éxito de Nightwish, en esta ocasión, y gracias al buen hacer compositivo de los gigantes del power Orden Ogan ese toque queda perfecto, además de no ser predominante, una canción más que demuestra el altisimo nivel este "Gunmen", canción esta "Come with me to the other side" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.

Canciones para una vida - Killer - Wall Of Sound

WALL  OF  SOUND

Como ya sabemos la escena metálica internacional de los 80 fue prolífica y diversa, incluido su origen, y dentro de Europa en concreto los frentes creativos abiertos fueron muchos, unos más conocidos que desarrollaron una cantera permanente y otros menos abundantes pero igualmente interesantes. Es de una de esas canteras menos reconocidas y productivas de la que salió esta banda de la que hoy quiero dejar un tema en el blog. Se trata de los belgas "Killer", un nombre de guerra adoptado a lo largo y ancho de la historia de nuestro sonido por muchas bandas de distintas procedencias, como digo hoy me refiero a los belgas. "Killer" se forma en 1980 y tiene, como muchas bandas de esos años, una carrera partida en dos periodos de tiempo, la inicial desde 1980 hasta 1991, y la segunda desde 2002 en adelante siguiendo en activo en la actualidad. Bajo un concepto sonoro en pleno heavy metal clásico con tintes "speedicos", el grupo desarrollaría su carrera sin destacar demasiado a nivel internacional aunque si que hayan sido una de las bandas clásicas belgas más reconocidas a nivel internacional. Han editado un total de siete LP's a lo largo de su carrera y hoy quiero dejar en el blog una canción de su segundo larga duración, "Wall of sound" de 1982, en concreto la que da nombre al disco, "Wall of sound", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Wind Rose - Dance Of Fire

DANCE  OF  FIRE

Otra de las canciones del tercer LP "Stonehymn" de los italianos Wind Rose es este "Dance of fire" que abre la obra tras la pequeña intro, un tema que resume bien la propuesta de la banda en general y de este disco en particular, un grupo que gusta de mostrar las influencias musicales que han recibido, con un toque progresivo, un corazón power y una envoltura sinfónica, si a ello añadimos una temática de fantasía y épica es evidente que Blind guardian y compañía acuden a nuestra cabeza, pero el sonido de Wind Rose es algo distinto, más personal y desde luego han encontrado su justa mezcla para sonar con su propia identidad, Parece ser que el cantante de Wind Rose, Francesco Cavalieri, se ha enrolado también como cantante en la banda francesa "Fairyland", un grupo sin duda afín al sonido de los italianos, veremos como compagina su labor en ambas bandas, algo que en no pocas ocasiones no suele acabar bien. Sea como sea, Wind Rose demuestra con esta tercera obra un asentamiento en su concepto musical, con calidad y persistencia, y otro buen ejemplo es este "dance of fire" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Bodine - Wild Fire Queen

WILD  FIRE  QUEEN

 "Bodine" fue una banda holandesa de heavy metal que desarrollo su corta carrera musical a comienzos de los 80, concretamente entre 1978 y 1984 y que resultó ser uno de los primeros hogares musicales del conocido guitarrista Arjen Lucassen, sobre todo por su proyecto en solitario "Ayreon". Una vez más el hecho es que uno va uniendo piezas en este gran puzzle que es el heavy metal y termina por hacerse un mapa muy concreto de lo que es esta increíble música nuestra. tras su estancia en Bodine, Lucassen, que aquí aparecía bajo el nombre de "Iron Anthony", recalaría en la banda "Vengeance", de la que ya he hablado en el blog, y como digo, en los 90 comenzaría su andadura en su propia banda, "Ayreon" y en las continuas colaboraciones y proyectos que también han caracterizado su carrera. Volviendo a "Bodine", nos encontramos musicalmente ante un concepto musical de heavy metal de la vieja escuela, un poco a lo NWOBHM, omnipresente sonido en el inicio de la citada década de los 80. Editaron tan solo tres LP's antes de separarse, así en 1981, 82 y 83 editan disco, una corta pero prolífica producción musical, algo bastante habitual por cierto en la época. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog un tema de su segundo disco, "Bold as Brass", de 1982, en concreto su "Wild Fire Queen", del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Keldian - Nightfall

NIGHTFALL

"Nightfall" es otra de las canciones de la nueva obra de los noruegos Keldian, un grupo del que ya he hablado en el blog en varias ocasiones y que como ya he dicho resulta difícil de encasillar en un estilo concreto pues es lo suficientemente diferente a lo habitual como para encabezar un subgénero nuevo, algo que con este nuevo disco han llevado un paso aún más allá. En principio, la escucha de la nueva obra me echó algo para atrás, en el sentido de un aumento del concepto electrónico y un aumento también en la dirección progresiva si se quiere de la obra en general, pero la escucha reposada me ha hecho ver a este "Darkness and light" como una obra nuevamente super interesante. Sigue manteniendo la esencia del grupo aunque la experimentación va un paso más allá y la producción, impecable como siempre, ha generado un disco realmente no apto para todos los públicos metálicos, probablemente ni siquiera para todos los seguidores habituales de la banda por los motivos antes citados. sin embargo al final el regusto que me queda es bueno, muy bueno, y otro buen ejemplo es este "Nightfall" que abre el disco, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Freedom Call - Land Of Light

LAND  OF  LIGHT

 Ya he dicho en más de una ocasión en el blog lo que significa esta banda alemana "Freedom Call" musicalmente para mí, uno de esos raros ejemplos en que me resulta casi imposible decir una palabra negativa de lo que hacen estos tíos a lo largo y ancho de su ya dilatada carrera que comenzara allá por finales del siglo pasado más como un proyecto paralelo que como una banda en sí. Evidentemente poniendo pasión, ilusión y calidad por supuesto, se puede llegar bien lejos, más incluso de lo que uno mismo hubiera creído, algo que imagino que ha podido sucederle a esta bandaza que va ya por su noveno LP y promete alargar su existencia por lo en forma musicalmente que se encuentran. Hoy quiero volver de nuevo la mirada a una de sus primeras obras, concretamente a su tercer trabajo del que ya he hablado en el blog, "Eternity" recientemente reeditado y complementado, y del que se puede casi escoger cualquier tema sin miedo a equivocarse, destacando hoy este "Land of light" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Ensiferum - Way Of The Warrior

WAY  OF  THE  WARRIOR

Traigo de nuevo la última obra de estudio de los finlandeses Ensiferum tras haberla escuchado con más reposo, y con gran pesar es para confirmar mis sospechas iniciales, y realmente a lo largo de las anteriores obras, de que Ensiferum se ha marchado, casi definitivamente, de lo que se podría o debería esperar de ellos. No se realmente lo que les pasará por la cabeza, pero desde que les conocí siempre alcanzaron un puesto privilegiado entre los más grandes para mí, y es que desde su primera obra hasta la tercera, y casi la cuarta, el nivel fue casi perfecto, rayando lo irrepetible, en estudio y en vivo en que lo he podido comprobar en más de una ocasión, pero, analizando el último disco, y ya echando la vista atrás a las ultimas obras no queda otra que rendirse a la evidencia de que los mejores momentos parecen haberse marchado para siempre. Desde luego la banda sigue siendo un portento de potencial, pero por el motivo que sea parecen sacarlo" a cuentagotas", y casualmente, por lo general en forma de adelanto, ya que en este disco solo se salvan a mi entender ambos singles,"For those about to fight for metal" y este "Way of the warrior" que captan lo que debería siempre seguir siendo un disco de Ensiferum. Además, no entiendo en un apartado más técnico la producción de la obra, con ese sonido en que voz, teclados e incluso teclados están como bajos, escondidos en una maraña sonora no propia de tamaña banda. Quizá sea solo la frustración de la espera de un disco de Ensiferum que resulta luego no serlo tanto, o quizá es que sea mejor esperar cinco años entre cada disco para parir nueve o diez temas 100% Ensiferum, algo que seria preferible a editar un disco como este. En fin, sea como sea dejo un enlace al clip oficial de este "Way of the warrior", como digo, en lo compositivo otra de las que se salvan de la quema, en lo técnico, (producción), no tanto.

Canciones para una vida - Blind Guardian - Age Of False Innocence

AGE  OF  FALSE  INNOCENCE

"A night at the opera" es el séptimo álbum de estudio de los alemanes Blind Guardian. Editado en 2002 se trata de una obra de esas que marcan un cierto cambio en el sonido-historia de la banda, desde luego para nada radical, todo en Blind Guardian ha ido siendo progresivo y efecto de la decisión de tomar un camino musical concreto, lo que si es cierto es que desde este disco en adelante el sonido del grupo ha ido haciéndose más y más progresivo si se quiere, más sinfónico dejando atrás los inicios más "speedicos" y tradicionales. Desde luego esta decisión ha ido dejando fans por el camino al tiempo que ha ido sumando otros más nuevos. Después estamos los que nos hemos ido adaptando a los tiempos de la banda para apreciar todo en su justa medida y en su justo momento. Desde luego a mi particularmente me llenaba mucho más la parte inicial-media de la banda teniendo en  mi opinión el punto álgido en su "Imaginations from the other side" de 1995, cuestión de gustos supongo. Sea como sea lo que no puede nadie negar a Blind Guardian es la calidad, la influencia que han generado, generan y generarán y que siempre, siempre habrá un resquicio de cada uno de sus discos que te llegará, como mínimo, aunque la obra en general no te guste. En este "A night at the opera" encontramos ese paso más hacia lo progresivo y conceptual si se quiere a lo que me refería más arriba, un sonido más barroco, recargado y sinfónico que requiere de mayor atención para captar cada matiz, que tiene a raudales por cierto. También encontramos algunos temas más en una onda clásica del grupo, como este "Age of false innocence" del que hoy quiero dejar un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Serenity - Lionheart

LIONHEART

"Lionheart" es el título de la sexta obra de estudio de los austriacos Serenity, una banda que centra su sonido en un power sinfónico con ciertos toques progresivos y modernos sobre todo en lo vocal pero con una base al mismo tiempo clásica e incluso algo neoclásica en lo instrumental recordando en ocasiones a la escuela sueca. Formados en 2001 tienen pues una ya larga trayectoria a sus espaldas de la que a mi me gusta personalmente más la parte inicial de la misma con un toque algo más tradicional quizás. Comienzan a editar material de estudio en 2007 y desde entonces su productividad ha sido buena como acrediatan sus seis LP's en apenas una década. En lo referente a los miembros de la banda hay una cierta continuidad lo que es muchas veces condición necesaria para que una carrera como banda tenga la consistencia para llegar a cotas altas de calidad y éxito. Desde 2016 en adelante sin embargo Serenity introdujo a Christian Hermsdorfer a la guitarra notandose su aportación en este disco incluso con el aporte de voces agresivas y asperas en uno de los temas.  Hoy quiero dejar un enlace a otra de sus canciones de este nuevo disco, en concreto al que da nombre a la obra, "Lionheart" del que dejo un enlace a youtube de su videoclip oficial.

Canciones para una vida - Avantasia - Chalice Of Agony

CHALICE  OF  AGONY

Segunda obra de Sammet bajo el nombre de Avantasia, la continuación de su metal opera que tanto sorprendiera a la escena internacional transformándose en un éxito casi al instante. Este "The metal opera parte 2" es para mí un punto de inflexión en Avantasia pues lo veo como la obra a partir de la que Sammet pensó en hacer un proyecto estable y alejarse de ese concepto claramente "argumental" con esa linea tan de historia y girar un poco hacia una banda más tradicional de power, eso sí manteniendo el sello Avantasia a través siempre de colaboraciones de lujo. Esta decisión hizo que en parte la banda perdiese la originalidad inicial y que incluso la banda madre de Sammet, "Edguy" se resintiese compositivamente para mi gusto, a pesar de lo espaciado de los discos de Avantasia, pero alimentar creativamente dos bandas semejantes tiene que resultar complicado, incluso para un músico como Sammet, si quieres mantener el nivel arriba. La prueba de lo que digo la veo cinco años más tarde de este "Metal opera parte 2", en 2007 con su "Lost in space" doble EP, con temas mucho más "Single" por así decir y con una estructura más "Edguy". Sea como fuere, el disco que hoy nos ocupa, "The metal opera part 2" de 2002, resulta un digno sucesor de su deslumbrante debut y planteaba de manera natural la necesidad de hacer de Avantasia una proyecto duradero que muchos metalheads demandaban. Hoy quiero destacar de esta obra uno de sus temas, en concreto este "Chalice of agony", con la colaboración vocal de André Matos y Kai Hansen, y del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Evertale - Chapter 666 (We Are The Hammer)

CHAPTER  666  (WE  ARE  THE  HAMMER)

Segunda obra de los alemanes Evertale, un disco que he estado esperando con ganas desde la salida de su debut en 2013, el fantástico "Of dragons and elves". Quizá por esa gran espectativa que había puesto en la nueva obra me haya decepcionado un poco, si bien, y para ser justos aún le debo más escuchas al disco. Este "The great brotherwar" me ha parecido un disco en el que el sonido de la banda resulta demasiado plano quizá, no destaca ni varía mucho resultandome un tanto monótono, eso sí, calidad sonora e interpretativa les sobra a estos chicos, es en esta ocasión una cuestión más de composición. Realmente siguen los pasos de su anterior obra que si me pareció fresca y que mostraba un potencial que sin duda el grupo tiene. Una vez más un concepto "Blindguardianesco" sobre vuela toda la obra resultando evidente el influjo que sus compatriotas han ejercido sobre "Evretale". He echado además de menos una pieza lenta - épica tipo "Of dragons and elves" de su primera obra, canción hiper "A past and future secret" de Blind Guardian que en esta ocasión no adornaba la nueva obra. En fin, el caso es que más allá de mis espectativas también encontramos temas que llaman la atención, como este "Chapter 666 (we are the hammer)", segundo single del disco en una onda muy power europeo del que dejo un enlace a youtube a su clip oficial.
