Girlschool - (I'm Your) Victim - Canciones Para Una Vida

Muy desde el comienzo del surgimiento del heavy metal como género en sí, la idea de las bandas de solo integrantes femeninos era una realidad, siendo además sin duda una propuesta compositiva mucho más que válida, lejos de la idea preconcebida de chicas monas luciendose. Uno de los ejemplos más claros en ese sentido fueron las británicas Girlschool, nacidas al calor del movimiento de la NWOBHM, formadas en 1978 (desde 1975 si consideramos a la banda desde su anterior nombre Painted lady), siguen en activo hasta la actualidad, habiendo publicado un total de catorce LP's de estudio en estos años de actividad. Equilibrium - Bloodwood - Canciones Para Una Vida

 

BLOODWOOD 

Los germanos Equilibrium actualmente poco o nada tienen que ver con los equilibrium iniciales, la propuesta musical ha cambiado completamente hasta el punto de que casi deberían considerarse como dos bandas distintas, además también en cuanto a miembros que la forman, quedando solo uno de los que comenzaron la andadura del grupo desde el inicio. Rodeados de polémica por esto, el grupo sin embargo sigue adelante, y en los últimos años nutriendose de singles sueltos que muestren que siguen con vida a los interesados en seguir su deriva. Dark Star - Backstreet Killer - Canciones Para Una Vida

BACKSTREET  KILLER 

Los británicos Dark Star, son un ejemplo de banda de las que nacieron al calor del movimiento de la NWOBHM, a finales de los setenta, y son un ejemplo más de banda que solo llego a mostrar una mínima parte de lo que su potencial prometía, en esta caso a través de solo dos LP's y un EP entre los años 1980 y 1987. El genuino heavy metal del momento se plasma bien en sus obras y una vez más muestra el estado de ebullición de la escena británica en esos años iniciales de la década de los ochenta, saturada hasta la saciedad que hacía casi imposible a muchas bandas medrar a pesar de su innegable calidad. Cutty Sark - Hardrock Power - Canciones Para Una Vida

HARDROCK POWER 

Esta es una de esas típicas bandas que mirando solo el aspecto de sus portadas ochenteras te imaginas algo demasiado cutrillo para prestarle atención, sin embargo, en este tipo de ocasiones, muchas veces la cutrez de las portadas en inversamente proporcional a lo interesante de la propuesta compositiva, este era el caso de los germanos Cutty Sark, grupo que mostró su potencial a comienzos de los ochenta en un par de LP's antes de diluirse hasta finales de los 90 en que editan su tercera y última obra de estudio. La propuesta es un heavy metal de la vieja escuela. Formados en 1979 su actividad más reseñable dura hasta 1987 en que editan los citados dos primeros LP's, (84 y 85) a los que precedieron su EP de presentación "Hardrock Power", de 1983, y del que quiero dejar hoy en el blog el tema que le daba nombre y del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Stargazer - Stone Cold Creature - Canciones Para Una Vida

STONE  COLD  CREATURE 

No todo iba a ser sonido oscuro, black metal o metal extremo el proveniente de las tierras noruegas, también aparecen por allí bandas melódicas, con composiciones más optimistas como es el caso de Stargazer, banda formada en 2008 que ha centrado su sonido en un heavy hard rock melódico, y que ha publicado, a fecha de esta reseña, cuatro LP's de estudio (2009, 2019, 2023) si incluimos este "Stone cold creature" que a punto estça de ver la luz de manera oficial (12 de septiembre). Tsunami - Room Of Doom - Canciones Para Una Vida

ROOM  OF  DOOM 

Tsunami es otro de esos grupos estadounidenses ochenteros que se movió compositivamente en el llamado hard 'n heavy, con sus laxas fronteras entre un sonido y otro, un sonido muy popular en su escena natal en su época pero no exclusivo de dicha escena, al final la explosión musical de ese momento fue global, mucho más de lo que las bandas que llegaban a ser masivas pueden mostrar cuando uno escarba más en profundidad. Formados en 1983 también son de esos grupos que tuvieron una carrera bastante errática, publicando tres LP's muy separados entre sí (1983, 1990 y 2004) antes de dar definitivamente por terminada su actividad en 2015. Byfist - Hour Glass Of Time - Canciones Para Una Vida

HOUR  GLASS  OF  TIME 

Un ejemplo más de como las dificultades de las bandas para desarrollar una carrera son grandes, muchas veces fuera de la vista cuando las bandas apenas son capaces de asomar siquiera la cabeza en la escena internacional, algo que se agudizaba en la década de los ochenta con las limitaciones tecnológicas y de repercusión si las comparamos con los tiempos que corren, así, grupos como estos estadounidenses, Byfist, tenían que dedicarse a la tradicional manera de lograr grabar alguna demo, algún single y esperar acontecimientos en la saturada escena del momento. Escogen un sonido clásico, heavy metal, pero tras publicar un single en 1987 "Hour glass of time", y un EP al año siguiente, "You should have known" el silencio se apodera de la banda hasta 2020 en que relanzan su carrera a través de su primer LP "In the end". Aquilla - Creed Of Fire - Canciones Para Una Vida

 

CREED  OF  FIRE 

Tres años después de su debut en formato LP llaga en este 2025 el segundo larga duración de los polacos Aquilla, provenientes de una escena que ha tenido un enorme repunte en terminos de heavy metal clásico a través de muchas bandas nuevas como por ejemplo estos Aquilla, formados en 2015, con ese boom de renacimiento global también del estilo clásico, y que publicarán de forma oficial este nuevo disco "Sentinels of new dawn" el último día de octubre. dejo hoy en el blog su adelanto "Creed of fire" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Arachnes - Lady Death - Canciones Para Una Vida

 

LADY  DEATH 

Volviendo a la era dorada del power italiano, a finlales de la década de los noventa, en la que el impulso enorme que Rhapsody dió a esa escena, hoy quiero desempolvar a la banda Arachnes, uno de esos grupos que irrumpe en el 97 con su primer LP "The goddess temple", que les puso en el mapa internacional con esa mezcla de power y power progresivo, una fórmula que también comenzaban a utilizar otros compatriotas de Arachnes más conocidos como Labyrith. En seguida la banda suscita las miradas de critica y fans pero a la larga el grupo no terminaría de funcionar en términos meramente de ventas, su popularidad fue mucho más limitada que la de otros grupos del momento en la escena power tan saturada en ese momento. Al final terminarían por publicar seis LP's de estudio hasta 2011, año desde el que no han editado material nuevo a pesar de aparecer oficialmente como banda en activo. A todo su material hay que añadir un EP de 2000 "Metamorphosis" del que hoy quiero dejar en el blog una de sus canciones, "Lady Death" buena muestra del enorme potencial de la banda y tema del que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube.

Suotana - The Crowned King Of Ancient Forest - Canciones Para Una Vida

THE  CROWNED  KING  OF  ANCIENT  FOREST 

Los finlandeses Suotana son una banda que practica ese sonido tan propio de su escena del death melódico con cierta tendencia power y cierta temática pagana y nórdica. Formados en 2005, el grupo realmente comienza a editar material una década después, y en este tiempo han publicado cuatro LP's de estudio, el último de ellos de este 2025, "Ounas II" que complementa al anterior LP de 2023 "Ounas". Hades - Opinionate - Canciones Para Una Vida

 

OPINIONATE 

Buceando en la historia matálica rescatamos hoy en el blog una banda estadounidense de esas que ha tenido su momento aunque para la mayor parte de la gente absolutamente desconocidos. Esta banda es de esas que se forman en el entorno de compañeros de colegio, en este caso a finales de la década de los setenta, desarrollando la mayor parte de su carrera entre finales de los ochenta y comienzos de los 2000, con 6 LP's de estudio. El sonido escogido por la banda está a medio camino del heavy power y el thrash metal, sobre todo tendiendo al thrash a medida que desarrollaban su carrera. Helloween - A Little Is A Little Too Much - Canciones Para Una Vida

 

A  LITTLE  IS  A  LITTLE  TOO  MUCH 

El pasado 27 de agosto salió definitivamente de forma oficial el nuevo LP de Helloween, "Giants and monsters", la obra destinada a consolidar esta nueva etapa de la banda, de reunión y convivencia, pero con esa dificultad añadida de gestionar los egos de tanto músico consolidado e importante a nivel internacional. La sensación de la obra es que han conseguido el objetivo, de asentarse dando a la banda las garantías de seguir por esta nueva senda emprendida y hoy quiero dejar en el blog otro de los singles con videoclip como es "A little is a little too much" del que dejo un enlace a youtube del mencionado clip oficial.

Angels Rage - Waiting To Die - Canciones Para Una Vida

WAITING  TO  DIE 

Angels Rage es el enésimo ejemplo de obra suelta, banda que solo dio una pequeña muestra de potencial respecto a lo que podría haber sido una carrera larga. Hablamos de una banda formada a comienzos de los 90, enmarcando el sonido en un heavy progresivo. Solo un EP en 1993 fue el fruto compositivo de la banda "Angels Rage" con cuatro temas componiendolo del que dejo hoy en el blog uno de ellos, en concreto el que lo abre "Waiting to die" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Testament - Infanticide A.I. - Canciones Para Una Vida

INFANTICIDE  A.I. 

Décimo cuarto album de estudio para los estadounidenses Testament, otra de esas bandas clásicas, dejada fuera de los llamados cuatro grandes del thrash metal, un injusto lastre que han arrastrado toda su carrera pero del que han sabido rehacerse desde una perspectiva compositiva, ya sabemos que desde el punto de vista de las ventas todo es otra historia, el marketing de sobre todo Metallica es algo con lo que no se puede combatir, pero a la luz de los hechos, comparar lo que hacen unos y otros actualmente habla por si solo. Manowar - March For Revenge - Canciones Para Una Vida

MARCH  FOR  REVENGE  (BY THE SOLDIERS OF DEATH) 

Nueva visita al material clásico de los ultra heavys Manowar, una banda rodeada siempre de polémica, tan amados como odidados pero sin duda alguna poseedores de su propia porción de historia dentro del heavy metal. Volviendo la cabeza de nuevo a la parte inicial de su carrera quiero recuperar hoy otra de las canciones de su segundo LP de estudio "Into glory ride", obra de confirmación de la banda, fresco para la época, definiendo el sonido luego tan imitado con ese trasfondo ultra heavy, auténticamente macarrilla, pero honesto desde esa perspectiva compositiva sin arreglos. De la citada obra quiero dejar hoy el tema que la cierra, "March for revenge (by the soldiers of death)" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Grymheart - The Dark Rider - Canciones Para Una Vida

THE  DARK  RIDER 

Los hungaros Grymheart son una banda de reciente formación (2022) que se ha decantado compositivamente por un death melódico de inspiración folk cuyo sonido apunta a bandas tipo Ensiferum en sus inicios o Wintersun, por ejemplo. En 2023 publicaban su debut en formato LP "Hellsish Hunt" que en este 2025 ve continuidad compositiva en este caso a través de un single nuevo del que de momento no tengo noticia de que forme parte de un segundo LP. Scarlet - She Taste Like Metal - Canciones Para Una Vida

SHE  TASTE  LIKE  METAL 

Los estadounidenses Scarlet son una banda que centro su sonido en el hard 'n heavy, muy de la época de mediados de los ochenta en la que comienzan a desarrollar su carrera. Es igualmente una de esas bandas que en cierto momento desaparecen de la escena, en un paréntesis compositivo de 20 años, (1985 a 2005), tres LP's son los publicados por la banda (1983, 85 y 2005) a los que añadir su EP inicial de 1982. Doro - Warriors Of The Sea - Canciones Para Una Vida

WARRIORS  OF  THE  SEA 

Otro de los nombres clásicos dentro del heavy metal es el de la cantante alemana Doro Pesch que a lo largo del tiempo ha ido poniendo su granito de arena en la historia de nuestro sonido, primero con Warlock y luego bajo su propio nombre Doro. En este 2025 se suma a la tendencia general de sacar singles sueltos para mantenerse en la retina del gran público ante el elevado riesgo de olvido que cualquiera que permanezca en silencio durante más de un par de años. El nuevo tema "Warriors of the sea" se incluirá en la obra recopilatoria del mismo nombre que saldrá el próximo mes de octubre y en el que recoge también varios temas en vivo grabados en sus presentaciones en directo en los cruceros metálicos.
