En tan solo unas semanas está programada la salida de un nuevo single de los suecos "Morning Dwell", de título "Blizzard", supongo que preludio de un nuevo LP de estudio del que aún no he leido noticias reales, de ahí la suposición. Para el que no conozca de esta banda, hablamos de power metal de corte europeo, muy de su escuela natal, sin inventos nuevos pero con elsabor característico del subgénero. Hoy quiero recuperar una de las canciones del que es el último de sus dos albumes publicados, (a fecha de esta reseña), "The Guardians of time" de 2016. El grupo se formó en 2012, y tras su debut de 2014 "Morning Dwell" tivieron continuidad compositiva en este "The guardians of time" aunque después este silencio de ya cuatro años que veremos si con el citado single del inicio de esta reseña, se rompe en favor de un tercer LP. Canciones para una vida - Taurisca - Battlefield's Call

 

BATTLEFIELD'S  CALL

Los austriacos "Taurisca" son uno de esos grupos que apenas han llegado a tener repercusión, apenas conocidos y que desarrollan un sonido enmarcado en el death metal melódico, pero con un componente folk. De hecho ellos mismos de auto denominan como una banda de "Medieval (Pagan)/Black/Melodic Death Metal", ahí es nada. Estamos hablando de un sonido un tanto extremo, sobre todo en lo vocal, pero que en su primer, (y hasta la fecha de esta reseña único LP de estudio) "Winter" de 2018, dejan pinceladas de calidad que hacen que sienta curiosidad por lo que puede venir. Formados en 2015 de momento sin apoyo discográfico han editado el citado "Winter" de 2018 y nada más. De este debut quiero hoy dejar un tema llamado "Battlefield's call", un tema que me llamó la atención desde la primera vez que lo escuché y del que siempre he pensado que la melodia y el sonido van muy acordes al título, con una atmósfera épica y oscura que te transporta a ese campo de batalla, un tema del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Hittman - Breathe

 

BREATHE

Un nuevo caso el de los estadounidenses "Hittman", de grupo que decide darse una segunda oportunidad tras una carrera iniciada en la década de los ochenta que, a pesar del potencial mostrado desde el inicio de la misma, resultaría ser demasiado corta, sobre todo el lo editado, y demasiado anónima, con poca o nula repercusión internacional. Hoy, con esa presunta mayor facilidad técnica para prescindir de los grandes organismos discográficos, muchos grupos deciden intentarlo más a su propio aire, con mayor o menor acierto, y entre ellos muchos son bandas del estilo de estos "Hittman", grupos clásicos sin éxito reconocido sobre todo a nivel de ventas que se dan esta segunda oportunidad citada. Hittman se forma originalmente en 1984 teniendo un primer periodo de actividad de una década, hasta 1994 en que deciden separarse. Dos LP's fueron los que compusieron su discografía en ese primer momento de su carrera, destacando más su debut "Hittman" de 1988. Con un estilo heavy-power con guiños a un hard'n heavy, su sonido era reconocible de su origen, una obra que llevo mucho tiempo queriendo traer al blog y que algún día lo haré. En 2017 deciden reactivarse, quien sabe si por la aparición, como dato curioso, de una de las canciones de su debut en la exitosa serie por todos conocida "Stranger Things" en su segunda temporada. Sea como sea el caso es que el pasado 2020 deciden editar su tercer LP, "Destroy all humans",manteniendo practicamente intacta la formación inicial de la banda, todo un acierto siendo un LP más que recomendable. Canciones para una vida - Nightwish - How's The Heart

 

HOW'S  THE  HEART

 Hablar de la banda finlandesa "Nightwish", es hacerlo de uno de los grupos más mediáticos y con mayor repercusión internacional dentro de nuestro amplio y diverso mundo metálico, nadie duda ya de su capacidad de convocatoria y ventas. Pues resulta que en estos días se ha hecho pública una noticia sobre la banda, una de esas a las que cualquier grupo teme enfrentarse, como es la salida de la formación de la misma de uno de los miembros fijos y con peso, como es el caso en esta ocasión de Marco Hietala, quien ha mostrado su necesidad de buscar otro camino por "saturación" ante la situación general que su mundillo profesional vive. Esa es la excusa oficial y el motivo esgrimido, algo que la banda ha aceptado como no podía ser de otra forma. Veremos como continúa la banda con la ausencia de este músico tan importante en "Nightwish". Buen momento parece para volver a repasar el undécimo LP de estudio y último editado, "Human Nature" de 2020, en que la banda daba un paso más en su historia personal y su concepto tan reconocible e imitado, y de dicha obra hoy dejo la canción "How's the heart" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Veonity - Free Again

 

FREE  AGAIN

Va desarrollandose la carrera musical de estos suecos, "Veonity" que comenzaran su andadura musical allá por 2013, y desde entonces cuatro son los LP's que constituyen su discografía, el último de ellos, "Sorrows" del recién pasado 2020. Como nexo común compositivo hablamos de un power de corte europeo, un tanto enfocado a esa vertiente más moderna pero sin exagerar, y en ocasiones pueden mostrar un patrón compositivo más acelerado a lo "Dragonforce", pero solo en ocasiones y en lo que a velocidad se refiere. Sea como fuere, calidad, buena producción, y composición que sin ser innovadora en absoluto si que ejecuta perfectamente el concepto que representa. Otro dato que habla bien de la banda es la estabilidad en su formación que permanece inalterada desde 2013, algo cada vez más raro de ver en los tiempos que corren, al menos parecen convencidos ellos mismos de lo que hacen, y suele ser un plus en la evolución de las bandas , en su asentamiento. Canciones para una vida - Stormhunter - Crown Of Creation

 

CROWN  OF  CREATION

Mucho tiempo ha pasado desde que traje al blog por vez primera y, (hasta  hoy) única a estos alemanes, "Stormhunter", un grupo que sin duda merece más atención por mi parte y en general por la de todos. Hablamos de un power metal con regusto clásico, de ese que bebe del concepto original que evolucionase del heavy metal clásico, ese primer power menos adornado, más contundente. Pues bien, en fechas recientes, (a mediados de diciembre) deciden editar material nuevo de estudio, en esta ocasión en forma de EP, "Ready for boarding", que afortunadamente muestra que el largo silencio desde su anterior material, "An eye for an I" de 2014, no ha sido sinónimo de fin de nada. Este material nuevo lo componen cuatro temas que están en absoluta consonancia con el estilo normal de la banda, es un punto de continuidad que esperemos que pronto se plasme en un nuevo LP. Canciones para una vida - Niviane - Psychomanteum

  

PSYCHOMANTEUM

Otra de las cancioones que más me han gustado de este segundo album de estudio de los estadounidenses "Niviane" es "Psychomanteum", del recién pasado 2020. Sin duda se nota una evolución desde su debut a este segundo LP, aunque manteniendo ese espiritu compositivo de power americano que en muchos pequeños detalles te puede traer remminiscencias a "Iced Earth" por ejemplo. Es otra de esas bandas de reciente formación (2014) a las que hacer un seguimiento de lo que está por venir. Dejo pues un enlace a youtube de este tema, "Psychomanteum".

Retornando a este debut de 2020, el de los italianos "Glory Force" a través de este "The restoration of Erathia", con una escucha más pausada y completa de la obra, solo confirmar totalmente las sensaciones iniciales, las de una banda llena de potencial dentro del subgénero power de corte europeo, De momento sin apoyo discográfico, ellos solos han sabido crear y producir una obra que promete buenos momentos por venir, un concepto bastante claro en lo compositivo sin innovaciones pero con buena ejecución que hace que todo amante del sonido power clásico disfrute de esta obra, de la que hoy dejo en el blog la canción "King Gryphonheart (the brave)", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Great Master - A Hanged Man

 

A  HANGED  MAN

Otra de las importantes irrupciones, llenas de fuerza, con intención innegable de ir un paso más allá en su carrera, del año 2019 fue la de los italianos "Great Master", una banda que ha ido pasando sin pena ni gloria por la escena internacional y que en su apuesta última han hecho méritos sin duda para que su nombre suba unos cuantos peldaños. El sonido es quizá más propio de la escena power germana que la transalpina, pero en cualquiera de los casos la calidad es alta, la composición variada y enganchona y la promesa de poder seguir por esa senda levanta expectativas, al menos en mí. Canciones para una vida - Excalion - Callsigns

 

CALLSIGNS

Emotions es el último de los 5 LP's editados por la banda finlandesa "Excalion", uno de esos grupos que hacen recordar a los mejores momentos del power metal internacional, concretamente al de su escuela finlandesa y la explosión de los Stratovarius y Sonata Arctica de finales de los 90. Sobre todo trae reminiscencias de Stratovarius en no pocas ocasiones. A pesar de llevar ya en activo desde 2000, entre 2010 y 2017 permanecieron sin dar señales de vida compositivas, lo que puede explicar la "solo" edición de cinco obras de estudio en más de dos décadas de actividad. Sea como sea en los últimos años parecen haber relanzado su carrera, y como decía al incio 2019 fue el último año en que publicaron LP, este "Emotions" del que hoy quiero dejar en el blog una de sus canciones, en concreto "Callsigns" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Windir - Journey To The End

 

JOURNEY  TO  THE  END

Cambiando el tercio en lo referente al estilo hoy quiero echar una mirada hacia el death melódico, con temática épico nórdico vikinga, y para ello quiero hablar de la banda noruega "Windir", quienes estiviesen una década en activo desde mediados de los 90. En dicho periodo llegaron a editar un total de cuatro LP's de estudio. Estamos hablando de un sonido muy en la onda de los "Falkenbach" y similares, por lo general con temas un poco más cortos que estos y además con un gusto por la experimentación que laes daba un sello personal reconocible. A pesar de no haber llegado nunca a ser los más reconocidos han sabido a través de los años, y tras su separación, alcanzar un cierto "Status" como referencia un tanto "Underground". Hoy quiero dejar en el blog un tema de su tercer LP, "1184", de 2001, una canción en la que se muestra esa ausencia de miedo a la experimentación, sobre todo al final de la canción, y ese espíritu "Falkenbachiano" en lo compositivo y ambiental, la canción se titula "Journey to the end" y cierra la obra, un tema del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Bloodbound - When Fate Is Calling

 

WHEN  FATE  IS  CALLING

Primeros ecos del nuevo trabajo de los suecos "Bloodbound", el que supondrá su noveno LP de estudio desde su formación en 2004. Siempre se ha decantado esta banda por un power de corte europeo, muy sueco, notandoseles la influecia tradicional de su escuela para delicia de los seguidores del subgénero, y a juzgar por lo escuchado en la primera de las canciones adelanto siguen con ese concepto intacto. Con estos suecos ocurre eso de saber a que va a sonar su obra antes de haberla escuchado, algo que como digo siempre puede uno tomarselo por el lado positivo o negativo pudiendo verse como una virtud o como un defecto, pero lo cierto es que este grupo va poco a poco afianzandose en la escena internacional y este parece ser un paso más en el camino que emprendieron hace ya casi dos décadas. Esta primera canción de adelanto se titula "When fate is calling" y pertenecerá al album titulado "Creatures of the dark realm" cuya salida se espera para comienzos de mayo, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Otra de esas sorpresas aparentemente salidas de ninguna parte y que a nivel personal fueron uno de los descubrimientos del pasado 2019 fueron estos suecos, "Blacksmith legacy", de quien ya he hablado en el blog, así que poco que añadir, solo, a modo de nueva confirmación, quiero dejar en el blog otra de las canciones que componen este segundo LP de la banda "Battalions of the northern realm", en concreto la homónima al nombre de la banda, "Blacksmith legacy", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Victory - The Hunter

 

THE  HUNTER

Una vez más encuentro en los inicios de una banda el mejor de sus momentos,,algo que, sobre todo al mirar en la década de los ochenta veo casi como recurrente. En esta ocasión me quiero referir a los alemanes "Victory" quienes han dado forma a una carrera larga aunque con muchos cambios, no solo de integrantes donde la lista es larga y de categoría, sino también en lo estilístico, con unos incios que rondaban el heavy metal, hard 'N heavy, para ir rolando progresivamente a un sonido más hard, algo igualmente muy "típico" en algunas bandas de incios de los 80 que veían como la "fiebre" hard rockera americana se apoderaba del final de dicha década y decidían tirar por esa senda. Hoy, como decía más arriba, quiero volver la mirada a los incios de esta banda, y fijarme en una de las épocas de su sonido que más me han gustado, en concreto sus dos primeras obras, "Victory" de 1985 y "Don't get mad get even" de 1986, (sobre todo esta segunda). El tema que hoy dejo en el blog es de su primer LP "Victory" del 85, donde particularmente me encantaba el trabajo vocal de Charlie Huhn, que repetiría en su segundo magnífico trabajo, En su debut mostraban ya el tremendo potencial que atesoraban, un disco a medio camino de muchas cosas y en mi opinión muy disfrutable, y del que hoy dejo en el blog la canción "The Hunter" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Warrior - Ruler

 

RULER

La versatilidad acompañada de calidad evidente hace de esta banda estadounidense uno de esos ejemplos recurrentes de banda con derecho a más. A mas reconocimiento, a mayor repercusión y por tanto a más fertil carrera y más longeva En cuanto a longevidad desde luego, si tenemos en cuenta que el status de la banda aparece como activos, habrá que puntualizar que su actividad no ha sido refrendada con la producción regular de obras cada X años, yo me refiero a una carrera con discos constantes y activa en todos los sentidos, algo que por desgracia aquíno ha sucedido. Debemos también introducir el factor temporal, es decir , si atendemos al magnífico album de Warrior que hoy vuelvo a traer al blog, "Fighting for the earth" de 1985, su debut, y que practicamente tras su salida se separasen para reunirse posteriormente, es ahí donde está lo trágico de la no continuidad, ese momento de la banda fue irrepetible y parecía el comienzo de una carrera descomunal que luego nunca más se dió, ni en lo potencial ni en lo real. De todas maneras la obra merece mención en su conjunto y completa debe valorarse con temas como el que dejo en el blog hoy, "Ruler", heavy metal de ese auténtico, de época, canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Lions Breed - Neon City

 

NEON  CITY

Ya he hablado en este blog, inevitablemente de "Scanner" la fantástica banda alemana, y, hoy, al hacerlo de "Lions Breed" casi puede decirse que vuelvo a hacerlo, ya que se trata del proyecto a través del que los citados "Scanner" dieron sus primeros pasos en esto de la música antes de cambiarse el nombre definitivamente. Tres de los miembros que formaban parte de Lions Breed dieron el paso hacia el ca,bio de nombre, toda la sección de cuerda, guitarristas y bajista. Se trata de un sonido que mostraba ya esa capacidad y el futuro que estaba por llegar, con un concepto de heavy metal un tanto speed, Lions Breed se sacaron de la manga un solo LP, "Damn The Night", en 1985, pero fue un disco más que aconsejable, una obra que disfrutar por completo, más sabiendo hacia donde se dirigían musicalmente. Sonido clásico de corte europeo, para amantes de los Accept, maiden y compañía, sonido muy hijo de su concepción, absolutamente de mediados de los ochenta, con todo lo bueno que eso implica. Canciones para una vida - Helstar - Burning Star

 

BURNING  STAR

1984 fue el año escogido por los estadounidenses "Helstar" para editar su album debut en esto de la música, una banda de la que ya he hablado en el blog. Hablamos de un heavy metal en clave clásica, un heavy metal muy de su cantera, ese toque americano presente en todo momento, un sonido además muy hijo tammbién de ese momento, aún comienzos de la década de los ochenta, una época de riqueza musical impresionante, con bandas por doquier, y escenas incipientes que comenzaban a explotar miemtras otras más habituales, (como la estadounidense que nos ocupa) seguían produciendo bandas como si no costase. Al fin, siempre se recupera, por fuerza, el argumento de que no siempre de la mano va la calidad y el éxito, si así fuese en todos los casos, estos "Helstar" deberían haber tenido mayor fortuna. Obra pues recomendable y completa, con muchos momentos destacables, sin ir más lejos el arranque de la obra, y su tema homónimo al título de la misma, "Burning Star", un resumen de heavy metal, de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Lancer - Freedom Eaters

 

FREEDOM  EATERS

Lancer es una banda sueca, uno de esos grupos que llevo mucho tiempo queriendo traer al blog pero que siempre por uno u otro motivo termino dejando de lado, a pesar de todo, aunque hoy parece que ya no lo voy a demorar más. Hablamos de power de corte europeo, power de ese un pelín acelerado, flirteando con ese heavy acelerado que se dio por llamar speed metal, aunque terminan teniendo un nexo mayor con la etiqueta power. Llevan en activo desde el año 2009, tiempo en el que han editado 3 LP's y un EP. En realidad actualmente la banda solo cuenta con uno de los miembros originales y en 2018 una de las señas de la banda Isak Stenvall dejo su puesto de cantante. Si tenemos en cuenta que también el puesto de batería está recién cubierto, y que su último trabajo editado es de 2017, "Mastery", miro el futuro de la banda con curiosidad de por donde van a salir, aunque seguro que su continuidad no estará en peligro por ese motivo. Como digo tres LP's adornan su discografía y hoy quiero dejar en el blog una de las canciones pertenecientes a su tercer y, hasta la fecha de esta reseña, último trabajo de estudio, "Mastery" de 2017, en concreto "Freedom Eaters" donde muestran bien claro cuales son sus gustos compositivos.

Canciones para una vida - Iron Mask - Master Of Masters

 

MASTER  OF  MASTERS

Otra de las grandes canciones del nuevo y ya séptimo LP dentro de la discografía de los belgas "Iron Mask" es la que da nombre a la obra, "Master Of Masters", buen ejemplo del nivel de madurez compositiva en que Petrossi se encuentra en todos sus proyectos y "Iron Mask" no iba a ser menos. La verdad es que se han sacado de la manga una obra completa, de gran calidad, fácil de abordar y efectiva en muchos de sus momentos, siguiendo esa línea de calidad de su anterior obra "Diabolica" de 2016. En esta ocasión la pretensión del compositor fue hacer una obra un punto más contundente pero el espiritu de la banda y de su trayectoria es completamente reconocible. Una de esas obras recomendables de este 2020 recién terminado dentro del power. Dejo pues un enlace a youtube de este "Master of masters".

Canciones para una vida - Demon - Night Of The Demon

 

NIGHT  OF  THE  DEMON

Con una vocación un tanto ocultista nació a banda británica "Demon", un clásico en esto del heavy que ha desarrollado su carrera desde 1979 en adelante dividida en dos partes, una primera hasta 1992 y una segunda parte desde 1996 en adelante. En total 13 LP's componen su discografía a fecha de esta reseña, y el estilo, aunque varialble en cierta medida va desde un heavy muy NWOBHM de sus inicios, con toques siempre hard n heavy, a un hard más americanizado si se quiere y alguna pincelada progresiva incluso en ocasiones. El punto ocultista más que reflejarse en el estilo lo hacía en su temática en sus dos primeros LP's para luego dar paso a un aspecto sonoro más hard 'n heavy, más alegre u optimista. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog una de las canciones de su debut, "Night of the demon" una obra en la que mostraban su capacidad y mostraban que su intención era quedarse largo tiempo, cosa que siguen haciendo. A pesar de no ser una obra reconocida por todos, la banda muestra ese gran potencial en ella y resulta muy completa y recomendable sobre todo teniendo en cuenta que se trata de una "opera prima" y que hablamos de ese sonido clásico de 1981  Si este sonido es de tu agrado te gustarán Demon en este "Night of the demon", del que dejo en el blog la canción homónima al título de la obra.
