 Otra canción de Axel Rudi Pell, por lo tanto una vez más un sonido totalmente reconocible, en mi opinión dicho sea como algo bueno por la calidad que siempre se relaciona con este magnífico guitarrista alemán, y la banda de la que se rodea, siempre músicos de excelente calidad. En esta ocasión dejo en el blog una canción de su décimo álbum de estudio, un LP este "Kings and Queens" de 2004, 100 % Axel Rudi Pell, y hoy dejo la canción "Strong as a rock", uno de los que pudiesen haber sido elegidos por la banda como singles de la obra por lo pegadizo de la canción, de la que dejo un enlace a youtube, nada más que añadir, Axel Rudi Pell en estado puro.

Canciones para una vida - Ash Of Ashes - Down The White Waters

DOWN  THE  WHITE  WATERS

 Ash Of Ashes es un grupo alemán, uno de esos grupos que no deberían llamarse así, pues en realidad se trata del proyecto individual de un solo músico que se dedica a todo absolutamente, desde la composición hasta la interpretación de cada uno de los instrumentos. En esta ocasión se trata de un proyecto de reciente formación que hace tan solo unos días ha editado su primer esfuerzo musical en forma de LP, " Down The White Waters", de forma independiente y digital, y en el que su único miembro "Skaldir" se encarga de voz, guitarra, bajo y teclados. Nos encontramos ante una prometedora banda, a juzgar por lo escuchado en este primer contacto con la escena internacional, una banda con un concepto musical que se me antoja un tanto "Falkenbach" si se quiere, con un poco más de toque moderno aunque con una concepción al tiempo clásica, buena melodía, temas sin embargo no demasiado largos viendo hacia donde apuntan los tiros compositivos, y una buena producción, más teniendo en cuenta el hecho de la auto producción, algo que poco a poco va teniendo menor importancia a medida que avanza la tecnología, también en este campo. En definitiva, una buena sorpresa si lo tuyo es ese folk épico y atmosférico con un aire folk nórdico. Canciones para una vida - Overlorde - Snow Giant

SNOW  GIANT

Overlorde es una banda estadounidense uno de esos grupos absolutamente desconocidos, resurgidos de sus propias cenizas para apenas haber vuelto a dejar un pequeño destello, por puro tesón de alguno de sus miembros originales. Se trata de una banda que se formó de forma original en 1985 y tuvo una corta existencia hasta 1988, periodo de tiempo en el que tan solo editaron un EP "Overlorde" de 1987 con cinco temas. De aquella banda, tan solo el guitarrista Mark M.E. Edward, principal impulsor del grupo y único miembro actual de los originales, y el batería Dave Wrem lucharon por regrabar los cinco temas de aquel EP completándolo con 8 más para dar forma al, hasta la fecha de esta reseña, único álbum de la banda "Return of the snow giant", de 2004. Con un enfoque siempre de heavy metal old school, en esta época más orientada a un sonido más power, nos encontramos ante una obra más que decente que grabaron con el apoyo de una discográfica menor. Parece ser que ante la poca repercusión de la obra internacionalmente la banda no editó nada más, y ya sin discográfica han llegado hasta nuestros días aún en activo pero tan solo con el guitarrista original tirando del carro. según parece se ha rodeado de nuevos músicos y han grabado una demo en 2017. Veremos donde terminan las cosas. Hoy quiero dejar una muestra del gran potencial que la banda siempre ha tenido, con la regrabación para el LP "Return of the snow giant" de 2004 de la canción "Snow giant" originalmente compuesta para el EP "Overlorde" de 1987, un tema del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - U.D.O. - Blitz Of Lightning

BLITZ  OF  LIGHTNING

Faceless World es el tercer trabajo en solitario del que fuera, (y tras unos años más volvería a ser, para volver después a dejar de serlo) cantante de Accept. Para la ocasión, (nos encontramos en 1990), realmente sus excompañeros estaban un tanto perdidos, recién parido el disco "eat the Heat", buena obra pero desde luego fuera del estilo Accept clásico que cosecho infinidad de críticas por ese super guiño hard americano que se marcaron. Pues bien, como digo, UDO en solitario cosechaba mejores críticas, sin desviar su punto de mira de un heavy metal fiel al sonido Accept, su carrera en solitario venía cosechando buenas críticas, y su estatus vocal no hacía sino aumentar obra tras obra. Este tercer disco de la obra del cantante alemán en solitario tampoco pasará a la historia como el mejor de los discos de su carrera, sin embargo aglutina muchas de las virtudes que le han hecho grande y que le hicieron por la época la elección natural ante la falta de ideas de los Accept originales. Hoy quiero pues dejar una canción de este "Faceless wolrd" de 1990, heavy metal en uno de los años en que el heavy metal clásico comenzaba a hincar la rodilla ante otros estilos y modas, disco del que dejo la canción "Blitz of lightning", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Accept - Die By The Sword

DIE  BY  THE  SWORD

Es evidente que el nombre de Wolf Hoffmann es uno de esos respetados a lo largo y ancho del planeta metálico, y con razón, pues la larga carrera del guitarrista, sobre todo soportando el peso compositivo de Accept a lo largo de ya más de cuarenta años, así le acredita. Si a eso unimos sus pinceladas bajo su propio nombre, colaboraciones y que Accept llegase a sobreponerse a la salida de UDO de la banda, vemos que su figura es imprescindible para entender la historia conjunta de nuestro sonido. Es también evidente que lo mejorcito del grupo lo parieron en la dorada década de los ochenta, que la citada salida del carismático vocalista casi dejo herido de muerte al grupo, pero que un compositor de la talla del mencionado Hoffmann tenía balas en la recámara como para dar aún grandes momentos musicales, los últimos desde el renacimiento del grupo en 2009 con la incorporación de un Mark Tornillo que se adapta extraordinariamente bien al estilo clásico de Accept, y que en 2010 debuto con la banda en su aclamado "Blood of the nations". Hoy quiero traer al blog la última de las obras editadas por Accept, "The rise of chaos" del pasado 2017, un disco en el que muchos ven la culminación de una pérdida de "Punch" de la banda desde su renacimiento con el citado "Blood of the nations", siendo ya este "The rise of chaos" la cuarta obra de la era "Tornillo". Simplemente por respeto a la trayectoria de la banda y del citado Hoffmann, y de la composición misma de la nueva obra, me parece al menos precipitado tratar de enterrar de nuevo a un grupo de tamaña influencia y calidad, máxime escuchando temas como este "Die by the sword" perteneciente al citado "The rise of chaos", y del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Tankard - Space Beer

SPACE  BEER

"The meaning of life" es el cuarto LP de la banda alemana de thrash Tankard. Editado en 1990, es uno de los puntos de inflexión a nivel ventas y reconocimiento para la banda, en un momento de su carrera en el que ya los tres anteriores LP's les habían ido situando en la cima de su escena thrash nacional, la europea y también la internacional. Cierto es que siempre, en lo referente a la escena internacional, el peso de las grandes bandas estadounidenses del género eclipsaba demasiado, (y no siempre justamente), los esfuerzos de otras canteras, pero la alemana ha resultado siempre ser una escena aventajada, y Tankard se ha hecho ese hueco por méritos propios en la cumbre internacional. Este disco aporta a la discografía de la banda canciones de esas que se convertirían en referencias obligadas en sus conciertos en adelante, y una de esas canciones sin duda es "Space Beer", de la que quiero dejar un enlace a Youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Lux Perpetua - Curse Of The Iron King

CURSE  OF  THE  IRON  KING

Otra banda nueva, (o bastante nueva mejor dicho, sobre todo bajo el nombre de "Lux Perpetua" puesto que como "Sentinel" llevan desde 2004 juntos). En definitiva, sería hablar con mayor propiedad decir que el grupo no ha editado material propio bajo el nombre de "Lux Perpetua" hasta 2014, en forma de un EP, "Forever we stand". Originarios de Polonia, su sonido es un Power metal absolutamente de corte europeo, una banda que gustará a los amantes del género que tanto se prodigó desde la mitad de la década de los noventa hasta la mitad de la de los 2000. En 2017 con la inclusión de nuevo cantante editan su primer LP, "The curse of the Iron King", un disco como decía más arriba perfecto para los amantes del power metal desde la perspectiva europea, incluida la temática épica de las letras. Hay apoyo en los teclados para las melodías y un trabajo vocal bueno y personal no "cojeando" el grupo en ningún apartado. Canciones para una vida - Jackal - I Must Be Dreaming

I  MUST  BE  DREAMING

Varios son los grupos que han escogido el nombre de "Jackal" para intentar desarrollar una carrera musical, y hoy quiero dejar en el blog un tema de uno de ellos, concretamente de la banda danesa "Jackal". Un grupo que desarrollo su carrera musical desde la parte final de la década de los 80 hasta bien entrada la de los 90, con un repunte posterior que derivó en la publicación de su cuarto y último álbum en 2009, aunque desdibujados ya y posteriormente separados. El sonido del grupo apostó siempre por un heavy metal con momentos power, y en el militaron músicos bastante desconocidos aunque relacionados con bandas danesas de primera fila en algún momento de su carrera tales como Pretty Maids o Mercyful Fate. Canciones para una vida - Grave Digger - Blade Of The Inmortal

BLADE  OF  THE  INMORTAL

Ya ha salido a la venta el décimo noveno disco de estudio de los alemanes Grave Digger, (este recién pasado 14 de septiembre), de título "The Living Dead". Ya traje al blog su primer adelanto y hoy quiero dejar otro de los temas del disco. Intentar descubrir a estas alturas como suena o va a sonar un disco de Grave Digger es una tontería, pues el sonido marca de la casa es algo absolutamente inquebrantable, y en esta ocasión no iba a ser de otra manera. Es cierto que a ojos, o mejor dicho a oídos de muchos, las últimas obras de la banda han resultado un tanto más flojas, aunque siempre manteniendo el espíritu del sonido de siempre. esta nueva obra parece recuperar más el pulso de sus mejores momentos, resultando ser, así desde las primeras escuchas, una obra disfrutable y absolutamente reconocible dentro del universo Grave Digger. Si algo ha caracterizado la carrera de la banda desde sus inicios ya en 1980, ha sido la consistencia, y esta nueva obra ha de ser una piedra más en ese muro metálico llamado Grave Digger. Canciones para una vida - Fogalord - Masters Of War

MASTERS  OF  WAR

Siempre la escucha reposada de una obra es más justa y mejor que una precipitada. Tras haber pues cumplido con tal premisa he de decir que la segunda obra de los italianos "Fogalord" ha despertado en mí la misma idea que hace un año ya expuse en el blog, un disco que ha sido diseñado, compositivamente hablando, en una línea bastante similar al debut de la banda, seis años ya atrás, recogiendo muchas de las virtudes que hicieron que me fijara en el por venir de este grupo de power metal un tanto sinfónico y de corte épico, pero que a mi humilde juicio no llegan al nivel de su primera obra. Es evidente que no estamos hablando de ninguna catástrofe, y que igualmente, es posible que las expectativas que yo mismo me había creado quizá hubiesen sido demasiado grandes, y tomando la obra sin comparación alguna, solo como un disco singular, puede uno disfrutar sin duda de su escucha como un ameno ejemplo de power bien ejecutado. Siempre es cierto que da la sensación de que el principal protagonista del grupo, Daniele Bisi, cantante y teclista aquí, y encargado de letras y composición, tiene una manera un tanto heterodoxa de hacer las cosas, aunque enormemente efectiva por otra parte, y al final lo importante de verdad es disfrutar de los discos, y este se deja. Canciones para una vida - Thobbe Englund - Illuminati

ILLUMINATI

 Thobbe Englund o Thorbjörn Englund es un músico sueco, multi instrumentista, de esos que ellos solos se componen e interpretan sus propio material, de principio a fin. En una clave, que ha ido incluso cambiando un poco de una obra a otra, el material editado bajo el nombre de Thobbe Englund va desde una heavy power metal, con pasajes incluso instrumentales orquestados a y un heavy hard de corte un tanto moderno. Las raíces musicales de este artista vienen de lejos, de hecho esta relacionado con la banda "Winterlong", de la que ya he hablado en el blog, así como con una época de Sabaton editando material como Thobbe Englund desde 2005 en adelante, eso si con un paroncete entre 2006, año de edición de su primer material, "Influences" y 2015 en que edita su segunda obra, desde ese momento, a obra por año, otras tres más completan su discografía de cinco LP's hasta la fecha de esta reseña. Canciones para una vida - Metalian - Inside The Dome

INSIDE  THE  DOME

Uno de los ejemplos de esa nueva ola que viene surgiendo desde los últimos años, casi nostálgica se podría decir, y que muchos no han dudado en agrupar en el término NWOTHM, (New Wave Of Tradicional Heavy Metal), a la que me he referido ya en alguna ocasión en el blog, y que no es sino una serie de bandas de nueva formación, casi siempre, que gustan de hacer un heavy metal muy a lo "Old School", como un renacimiento del puro sentimiento del heavy primigenio, pero hecho en el sigo XXI, batería, guitarra, bajo y voz, sin arreglos, así, crudo, todo a base de riffs, una ola bien refrescante para todos los que, como es mi caso, amamos el sonido original, un heavy así compuesto que suele tener la virtud de envejecer mejor que otras fórmulas más elaboradas. "Metalian" es una banda canadiense con ya una trayectoria larga a sus espaldas (desde 2004), a pesar de no contar con una discografía extensa que se reduce a solo dos LP's completados con dos EP's. Concepto indudablemente pues de Heavy speed metal de la vieja escuela que hace que este grupo canadiense saque esa tradición tan buena de su Canada natal en la década de los ochenta, haciendo del grupo algo totalmente recomendable si lo tuyo es ese estilo. Hoy dejo una canción en el blog de su último material publicado, a fecha de esta reseña, "Midnight Rider" de 2017, del que dejo como digo "Inside the dome" un viaje en el tiempo instantáneo del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Crystal Viper - At The Edge Of Time

AT  THE  EDGE  OF  TIME

Los polacos Crystal Viper aprovechan su buen momento para editar en forma de EP lo que parece material complementario de su último LP "Queen of the witches", de 2017. En lo musical esta obra en forma de EP nos aporta solo un par de composiciones nuevas, posiblemente descartes de su anterior larga duración, pues tienen una cabida casi perfecta en el desarrollo general de la anterior obra. Nada que reprochar en lo compositivo, por supuesto, sigue pues en una linea similar a lo que vienen haciendo, si te gustó el disco anterior te gustará esto, pero en el plano marketing nos encontramos ante una maniobra de venta de material envuelto en forma de EP, versiones en otro idioma de temas pasados, una versión de otra banda y el citado par de canciones nuevas. Realmente están en su derecho de plantear como quieran su carrera, quizá animados por una de las discográficas grandes, (AFM), y es una práctica habitual de venderse, pero al final la gente termina por dejar de prestar atención a este tipo de lanzamientos para tener material supuestamente nuevo que realmente ya poseen. Como digo, en lo musical nada que objetar a una banda que está en un buen momento musical y que por otra parte es comprensible que intenten exprimir al máximo. Canciones para una vida - Niviane - Gladiator

GLADIATOR

 La escuela estadounidense del power metal nos deja una banda de reciente formación, (2014), Niviane, con su primer, y hasta la fecha de esta reseña, único LP, "The Druid King", del presente 2018. Sin descubrir nada demasiado original, si que "Niviane" hace bien lo que propone, un power bastante de la escuela americana, con un cierto aire a bandas como Iced Earth, (salvando las distancias), por lo tanto con un enfoque más allá hacia una especie de thrash sin llegar a serlo, casi es una pincelada en ocasiones, pero sin duda la concepción viene del power. Ese punto thrash es el alcanzado por los citados Iced Earth, que se puede decir que han ido sin duda hacia el power desde hace mucho, así pues sería un punto intermedio más cercano al power, un tanto groove, sobre todo en temas como este "Gladiator" extraído del citado único LP hasta el momento "The druid king", canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Mob Rules - War Of Currents

WAR  OF  CURRENTS

Ya en otras ocasiones ha mostrado Mob Rules unas composiciones un tanto "Maidenianas", sobre todo del estilo de los británicos de la parte media o final de sus obras, y en esta ocasión este tema que hoy dejo en el blog, "War Of Currents" de su "Beast Reborn" de este 2018 tiene para mí un cierto aire en ocasiones al citado estilo. De lo que no cabe duda alguna es de la calidad que esta banda lleva ya décadas derrochando, y, a pesar de no ser absolutamente reconocidas si que parece evidente que estos alemanes van poco a poco creciendo y alcanzando un respeto general. Al final, y tras la escucha reposada de la nueva obra termino por tener la sensación igual o similar que el de sus obras previas, calidad, pero seguramente no alcanzarán un número mejor de ventas que en otras ocasiones ya que no han variado su fórmula, una fórmula que tampoco considero para nada equivocada, simplemente parece no ser del todo del agrado del gran público en general, una vez más creo que injustamente, pero es lo que hay. Canciones para una vida - Crom - Betrayal

BETRAYAL

Otra de las canciones del tercer y esperado, (al menos por mí) disco de Crom, la banda alemana personificada en Walter Grosse, uno de esos músicos multiinstrumentistas que además de componer el material son capaces de interpretar prácticamente cada instrumento a la perfección. Para no repetirme en exceso, pues ya he dejado un par de temas de esta obra en el blog, tan solo redundar en el buen enfoque que ha dado el músico a esta nueva obra y esperar que el siguiente disco no se haga esperar tanto como entre el segundo y este citado "When northmen die" de 2017. Canciones para una vida - Fifth Angel - Can You Hear Me

CAN  YOU  HEAR  ME

Ya desde 2010 se rumoreaba sobre la hipotética reunión de Fifth Angel, estos estadounidenses que desarrollaron una demasiado escasa carrera con una producción de 2 LP's que alcanzaron un gran reconocimiento, quizás no tanto en cuanto a ventas, sobre todo en el periodo de existencia del grupo en activo, (entre 1984 y 1989), lo que seguramente provocó que su discográfica de entonces (Epic), una de las grandes americanas de la época, les retirase su apoyo económico que terminó degenerando en su separación definitiva en 1989, por desgracia viendo el nivel de sus obras editadas, "Fifth Angel" del 86 y "Time will tell" del 89. Tras su fichaje por una grande de las de hoy (Nuclear Blast... que miedo...), en 2017 se materializa definitivamente la vuelta de la banda a la vida de forma definitiva y será en octubre de este 2018 cuando se edite este tercer esfuerzo compositivo "The third secret" para alegría de todos los que disfrutamos en el pasado de sus obras. El primer adelanto es "Can you hear me", un tema en clave de medio tiempo, baladilla que sirve para abrir boca mientras esperamos la salida del disco entero, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.
