Cradle Of Filth - Temptation

 

TEMPTATION 

Los británicos Cradle of Filth son otra de esas instituciones dentro de nuestro sonido, un grupo formado en 1991 que lleva 16 LP's de estudio, (a fecha de esta reseña), en los que ha ido variando dentro de su propuesta sonora, desde un death metal agresivo y oscuro en sus inicios, pasando por una etapa mucho más sinfónica y después con un enfoque más gótico, generando entre tanto todo tipo de opiniones a favor y en contra, con la típica polémica entre defensores y detractores según gustos y momentos. Uno de los discos que más han dividido a la crítica fue su séptimo disco "Thornography", de 2006. Un enfoque más comercial, sobre todo en el tema "Temptation", versión de la banda "Heaven 17", canción de la que dejo hoy un enlace a a youtube de su clip oficial.

A medida que vas dandole escuchas a la nueva obra de los finlandeses Insomnium "Netherworlds" de este 2026 (16 de octubre) te das más cuenta de lo que tienes entre manos, del crecimiento de esta banda obra tras obra, de la enorme calidad, que les va haciendo equipararse a los más grandes en su género, (a todos nos viene a la cabeza Amorphis), y además, en este sentido para una de las canciones del nuevo disco, han encontrado la colaboración de Tomi Joutsen de los citados Amorphis, es "The hour grows late" de la que dejo hoy en el blog un enlace a youtube.

Iced Earth - Travel In Stygian

TRAVEL  IN  STYGIAN 

En 1991 los estadounidenses Iced EArth publicaban su segundo album de estudio, "Night Of The Stormrider" uno de esos grandes discos que ayudaban a poner las bases en lo que sería una mezcla de estilos, heavy metal, thrash metal y power metal unen fuerzas en este disco, que siendo de 1991 era de los que abrian este concepto, de los primeros en experimentar de esta manera tan evidente, sin renunciar a ninguno de ellos. Cabe destacar el trabajo vocal de John Greely, que solo ha participado en esta obra para la banda, con una capacidad vocal enorme, con una forma de interpretar absolutamente perfecta para la obra. Otro disco que merece la pena de inicio a fin, y fijandome hoy en el fin de la misma quiero dejar en el blog el temazo que la cierra, "Travel in Stygian", una de esas canciones largas, (casi diez minutos), pero que se te hacen cortas, un auténtico viaje sonoro que dejaba bien clara la capacidad compositiva de la banda y el potencial de lo que estaba por venir, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Beast In Black - Lost Children

LOST  CHILDREN 

Nuevo adelanto de la próxima obra de estudio de los finlandeses Beast in Black, "Fear the beast" que en breve verá la luz. En esta ocasión la banda explota otra de sus cualidades al presentar una de esas canciones cocinadas a medio gas, melódica, pero no carente de energía y fuerza, una de esas llamadas power ballads, titulada "Lost Children" y de la que dejo un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.

Otro de los grupos que siempre atraen mi atención con cada nuevo lanzamiento es TYR, los feroeses que siguen adelante con su carrera en este 2026 publicando a mitad de noviembre su décimo LP de estudio "TYR". Para la ocasión la banda ha dejado su anterior discográfica para publicar su album bajo la suya propia "Runic Records", una forma magnífica de no tener que hacer nada que no deseen, y ya tienen más que suficiente nombre como para embarcarse en una aventura así y seguramente para atraer hacia su sello a bandas nuevas, o no tan nuevas. Gloryhammer - Pax Galactica

PAX  GALACTICA 

Ya son más de 13 años desde que se formase el por entonces proyecto Gloryhammer, en un debut que deslumbró a todo amante del power metal. Semejante impacto solo podía tratarse de una manera, dejar de ser proyecto puntual para transformarse en una banda a tiempo completo, desde ese debut otros cuatro LP's han demostrado que había potencial de sobra para alcanzar ese titulo de banda con todas las de la ley. En este 2026, este recien pasado 16 de octubre se ha publicado de forma oficial su quinto LP, "Space 1993 Wrath of Kor Virliath", con buena aceptación general de público y crítica, entre otros motivos por su capacidad para generar temas memorables como por ejemplo este "Pax Galactica" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

The Scepter - Taarakian Blood

TAARAKIAN  BLOOD 

Desde Canada, la enésima banda que se apunta a esto del heavy metal de la vieja escuela, al sonido clásico, en este caso también de reciente creación (2018) y que en este 2026 ven como se publica su debut en formato LP, son The Scepter. Vocalista femenina pero con una forma de interpretar absolutamente clásica. Gothic Knights - Up From The Ashes

UP  FROM  THE  ASHES 

Gothic Knights es una banda estadounidense de power metal, que se forma en 1990 y que desarrolla una carrera muy pausada desde el punto de vista de la publicación de material, hasta 2012, puesto que en ese ya más que respetable periodo de tiempo tan solo publican cuatro LP's de estudio, luego, sin separarse oficialmente no han vuelto a dar señales de actividad compositiva a pesar de permanecer en activo. Power metal un poco a medio camino entre lo que es una propuesta europea y la nativa de la banda americana, se ensalza su esfuerzo porque en esos años de mitad de los 90 y los 2000 este tipo de bandas casi solo aparecian en Europa, pero se les tilda de poco originales, sea como sea su sonido es disfrutable si lo tuyo es el power. De su tercer LP "Up from the ashes" de 2003 dejo hoy en el blog la canción que le da nombre y de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Watcher - Sorceress

 

SORCERESS

  Desde Suecia, y solo viendo la estética de la portada uno ya puede imaginar de que va esta banda, heavy metal de la old school, otro grupo más de los que se suman a esa marea de nuevas bandas a la antigua usanza. Formados en 2023 el proyecto Watcher en sus inicios era uno de esos grupos unidos a un solo músico, a un solo nombre Viktor Gustafsson que se dedicó durante un par de años a publicar una serie de EP's mostrando su visión musical. En 2025 publicaba ya el EP "Chains of Crystal" siendo cuatro miembros en la banda, y en este 2026 toma forma su primer LP "Mistress of our time", como banda más standard en lo que a miembros se refiere, algo más realista si tu idea es presentar tu material en vivo y además desarrollar una carrera fuera de los estudios. Yngwie Malmsteen - Dark Ages

DARK  AGES 

Corría el año 1986 cuando Yngwie Malmsteen publicaba "Trilogy", su tercer LP de estudio en solitario, y a nivel personal una de esas obras que me deslumbraron en mi inicio metálico. Hablamos de uno de los mejores momentos del guitarrista, para mi gusto, de toda su carrera, una obra de solo 40 minutos pero absolutamente disfrutable que sacó lo mejor del artísta sin abusar demasiado del virtuosismo que le caracteriza. Con los hermanos Johansson (Jens y Anders) teclados y batería respectivamente y Mark Boals a la voz, la alineación solo podía deparar una obra de esas que envejecen bien, y que ganan enteros si cabe a medida que el tiempo la coloca en su sitio. Otro disco de los que sin duda terminaré trayendo al blog completo canción a canción porque lo merece. Hoy toca el turno de "Dark Ages", un poco a medio gas, medio tiempo, pesado y épico, de cadencia casi doom pero de heavy clásico, con aire oscuro y los destellos luminosos y técnicos de los punteos del maestro de la velocidad, canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Grave Digger - My Private Morning Hell

MY  PRIVATE  MORNING  HELL 

Es muy de agradecer, que cuando una banda hace algún tipo de recopilatorio, introduzca alguna canción nueva o inédita hasta ese momento, y seamos sinceros, de esa forma además, se incentiva la compra de algo tan potencialmente vendible por un lado y tan delicado por otra, se capta a esos fans más puntuales que así encuentran ese material original más selecto, y se "obliga" a los fans de toda la vida o más fieles, a volver a comprar material original que ya tienen pero con la excusa de tener el nuevo tema o nuevos temas también en un formato oficial. The Headless Ghost - Legacy Of The Dead

LEGACY  OF  THE  DEAD 

Segundo LP de los italianos The Headless Ghost a la vista, llevará por título "Legacy of the dead" y verá la luz de manera oficial el mes de noviembre de este 2026. Si ya te encontraste con esta banda en su debut de 2024 "King Of Pain", ya sabrás que estamos ante una banda que comenzó sus días como tributo de Kind Diamond para adentrarse en la composición de sus propios discos con el inicio de la década. El sonido, pues, la estética y el concepto general de la banda queda claro, con una calidad también de su lado. De este nuevo disco dejan su adelanto homónimo al título de la obra del que dejo un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.

Virgin Steele - Veni Vidi Vici

VENI  VIDI  VICI 

Sin ningún lugar a dudas, los estadounidenses Virgin Steele son otro de esos grupos que te dan la sensación, atendiendo a su carrera al completo, de que no se les ha hecho justicia en lo que a reconocimiento general se refiere, otro de esos grupos más grandes de lo que sus cifras puedan hacer pensar, y es que la aceptación masiva de todos los metalheads siempre les ha sido esquiva. Igualmente no creo que nadie a estas alturas dude de su calidad ni de su importancia histórica dentro de nuestro sonido, lo tienen todo, la personalidad, la historia, la discografía (extensa) e incluso la influencia sobre otros grupos. En marcha desde 1981, 17 LP's de estudio (a fecha de esta reseña) y un sonido, en ocasiones algo elaborado, seguramente siendo más "simples" pudieran haber alcanzado mayores cotas de popularidad, pero esa complejidad compositiva por encima de la media es una importante parte de su identidad que conservan y deben conservar. En 1998 publicaban "Invictus", octavo disco de la banda, del que dejo hoy en el blog el tema que lo cierra, "Veni vidi vici" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

KIDS  OF  ROCK 'N 'ROLL 

Que buena pinta tiene, a juzgar por los adelantos, la novena obra de estudio de los suecos Crystal Eyes, que se publicará de forma oficial el día 30 de este mes de octubre. Es una pena que la banda no haya tenido mayor continuidad compositiva pero a veces el precio de hacer buenos discos pasa por una maduración de los mismos, quizá siete años sea demasiado pero si el fruto final es bueno, bienvenido sea. El segundo adelanto de la nueva obra "Thunder God" lleva por título "Kids of rock'n'roll" y de el dejo hoy un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.

Gwydion - Math Of War

MATH  OF  WAR 

Los portugueses Gwydion son otra banda de las que han escogido un sendero dentro del death melódico con tintes folk, de innegable vocación épica y con una trayectoria detrás más larga de lo que sus cuatro LP's publicados, (a fecha de esta reseña), podrían hacer pensar. La banda de hecho se forma en 1995 pero hasta mitad de los 2000 no comienzan a publicar material en formato LP. La tercera de sus obras es "Veteran" de 2013, según la crítica con un giro más hacia el heavy metal pero sin dejar en absoluto ese sonido death melódico y sus rasgos folklóricos.
