STAND  UP  FOR  ROCK 

Desde siempre, pues todo hace ya mucho que está inventado, se han buscado caminos alternativos, sobre todo para buscar mayor éxito o aceptación, y por lo tanto dinero, adaptando o probando cosas a los tiempos musicales de cada momento en busca sobre todo de dinero. Esa actitud puede llegar a ofender a los fans originales, y puede no llegar a cumplir las expectativas creadas por las propias bandas lo que puede ser un riesgo demasiado grande que muchas bandas no se atrevían a tomar. En los ochenta la banda estadounidense de heavy metal Bitch, deciden a finales de los ochenta intentarlo reconvirtiendo su heavy metal en una suerte de hard 'n heavy del que gozaba del favor del gran público con la irrupción global del sonido hard rockero y glam, y así, bajo el nombre de Betsy sacan un disco más orientado al citado sonido en 1988, un disco que sería el único en esa onda, y de hecho el último como tal de la banda aunque se suponga que desde 2005 siguen en activo, aunque sin material nuevo. Brymir - What We Leave Behind

WHAT  WE  LEAVE  BEHIND 

Que gran banda finlandesa Brymir, un grupo que ha sabido desde sus inicios encontrar en cada momento su senda que comenzase en 2006, por entonces como banda tributo a Ensiferum, sacando un debut en 2011 muy en esa línea aunque ya con su sello propio, para después ir progresivamente encontrando su propio sendero que actualmente tienen muy claro, muy cogido por la mano y absolutamente irreprochable desde mi gusto personal. En este 2026 el grupo publicará ya su quinto LP de estudio "What we leave behind" (de forma oficial para el 2 de octubre) y de él nos dejan el primer adelanto que es la canción que dará nombre a la obra y de la que dejo un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.

Ride The Sky - Endless

 

ENDLESS 

Suecia, inicios de los 2000, power metal, todo parece encajar, eran unos años en los que surgían bandas cada mes, en esos parametros, muchas para quedarse, otras sin embargo para dejar solo una muestra de lo que podría haber sido, y dentro de estas últimas encajan "Ride the sky", que se forman en 2006 y desaparecen en 2009 dejando entre medias, (2007) su debut y único LP de estudio publicado "New Protection". Su sonido recorre varios senderos en lo que a influencias se refiere, así el tema que dejo hoy en el blog, "Endless" tiene un innegable aire a Masterplan por ejemplo, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Gus G - The Quest

THE  QUEST 

Si bien es cierto que las obras instrumentales suelen resultar un pelín pesadas en general, hay siempre matices que pueden hacer mucho más llevadero un disco de esta categoría, pirmero y ante todo la calidad, que si va unida al equilibrio, alejandose de ese deseo innato de muchos guitarristas de solo lucir su técnica o velocidad, es decir, añadir un sentido compositivo claro, que no tiene que estar reñido con lo anterior por cierto. Si además añadimos la presencia de artistas invitados que canten y complementen al maestro mejor que mejor, y en este punto el guitarrista griego Gus G suele acertar. En 2015 publicaba su tercer LP bajo su nombre, "Brand new revolution" con solo un tema instrumental en toda la obra que es el que quiero dejar hoy en el blog, pero que reune las premisas citadas al inicio, equilibrio y técnica, un tema del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

U8 - God Of The Highway

GOD  OF  THE  HIGHWAY 

Ahondando más en la idea de que el sonido heavy metal no se circunscribió solo en las consabidas escenas británica o estadounidense, a inicios de los ochenta podían aparecer bandas en clave de heavy metal en casi cualquier punto del planeta, más aún en los países europeos, así nos encontramos con U8, una banda austriaca formada en 1980, que terminaría publicando solo dos LP's de estudio (1982 y 1984) antes de dejarlo en esa misma década. Una vez más la ilusión se terminaría rindiendo a la evidencia de la dificultad de despuntar en esta clave compositiva ante la atestada escena internacional ochentera, luego ya se sabe, los duros momentos para las bandas que querían componer sus discos en ese ambito del heavy metal de la old school, que o se reinventaban, adaptaban o desaparecian. De su debut de 1982 "Pegasus 1001" dejo hoy en el blog su canción "God of the highway" con la que abrían la obra, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Led Zeppelin - Stairway To Heaven

  

STAIRWAY  TO  HEAVEN  

Partamos de la base de que Led Zeppelin no puede considerarse concretamente heavy metal, pero como precursores en lo suyo, son sin duda una banda fundamental para entender el todo, ellos más desde una perspectiva hard rockera, pero es que estamos hablando aún de la década de los sesenta y del inicio de los setenta. Su primer material pues es altamente influyente en lo que hicieron muchos después, algunos centrandose más en el sonido heavy, El cuarto disco de esto británicos se publicó en 1971, "IV", o "Led Zeppelin IV" al ser un disco sin título realmente, y de esa obra quiero dejar en el blog una de esas canciones que son parte de la historia de la música en general, la magnífica "Stairway to heaven", con su lento inicio, pausado y místico, acústico, para luego acelerar el paso y la furia, una fórmula que luego se ha usado mucho y que personalmente suele ser de mi agrado. Kamelot - Ashen World

ASHEN  WORLD 

Sin duda otro de los nombres aceptados y reconocidos globalmente es la banda americana Kamelot, uno de los veteranos en lo suyo, influyentes y con un legado ya de catorce discos de estudio si contamos el décimo cuarto "Dark Asylum" que verá la luz de forma oficial el 28 de agosto de este 2026. Siempre buscando colaboraciones, en el caso de su primer adelanto "Ashen World" lo hacen con la vocalista y modelo chilena Ignacia Fernandez que complementa las voces en el tema, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.

Underdog - Speed Attack

SPEED  ATTACK

Desde Alemania una nueva prueba de que el movimiento del heavy metal primigenio no solo se ceñía a las dos escenas por excelencia en ese momento, Inglaterra y Estados Unidos, fue mucho más global aunque no tan exuberante como en estas dos, pero por ejemplo la incipiente escena germana ya despuntaba y muchas bandas aún en las sombras del anonimato ponían en su medida su granito de arena en el todo que era ya el heavy metal. Hablamos de Underdog, formados a finales de los 70 y que en 1982 publicaban su debut "Underdog". Después dos discos más en el 84 y el 88 hablan de otra banda más que apenas lograría repercusión a pesar de las aptitudes. Ross The Boss - Crom

 

CROM 

Ross the Boss es lo mismo que decir Manowar, y hacerlo es recurrir a ese heavy metal tan ostentoso, tan vehemente, tan alimentado por el ego, por si mismo, sin poder de replica, rozando muchas cosas, muchas buenas, otras no tanto, lo que se ha venido en llamar True Metal, con sus luces y sus sombras, pero la verdad es que, personalmente, cuando estás en ese momento en que tu cuerpo y alma te piden este tipo de sonido, si aciertas con la canción y el momento desde luego pocas cosas más eficaces hay. Como decía Ross The Boss es sinónimo de Manowar, miembro fundador que tras su salida de la banda terminaría en 2006 formando su propio grupo bajo su nombre, y en veinte años de actividad así publicaría cuatro LP's de estudio hasta su muerte en este 2026. De su segundo LP "Hailstorm" de 2010 quiero dejar inevitablemente en el blog la canción "Crom", solo la temática se me hace ineludible, y la canción además cumple con lo que promete, un tema del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Rush - The Trees

THE  TREES 

Cuando uno mira a las raíces mismas suele encontrarse con bandas fundamentales sobre todo para entender el conjunto, es lo que tiene ser pionero, abrir camino y ser faro para los que luego vienen y reinterpretan y continúan ese legado. Rush, la leyenda canadiense es una de esas bandas, en este caso en la vertiente progresiva, con 19 LP's de estudio en su discografía de la que quiero rescatar hoy su sexto LP para recuperar la canción "The Trees". Hablamos del año 1978, de su disco "Hemispheres" donde ese aire progresivo brilla con luz propia una vez más. Dejo un enlace a youtube de este tema.

BLADES  OF  STEEL 

 Dentro de los países sudamericanos sin duda junto con Argentina Brasil es uno de los que cuentan con más tradición, y atendiendo a su tamaño poblacional es de los que mayor volumen de bandas producen. Muy dados al true metalismo, muchas bandas de ese origen recurren a ese sentimiento ultra heavy para buscar su propuesta compositiva con mayor o menor acierto, la verdad es que ese terreno mencionado es peligroso, puedes pasar de lo imponente a lo cutre en solo un desliz. Un poco en esa línea true macarrilla encontramos a Blades of Steel, formados en 2022 y que en 2025 publicaron su debut en formato LP titulado como el propio grupo, y de dicha obra quiero dejar hoy en el blog el tema que se llama también como el grupo y el disco, "Blades of steel" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Steelover - Forever

 

FOREVER 

Que gran época la primera mitad de la década de los ochenta para aquellos que adoramos el heavy metal de la vieja escuela, eran unos años en los que muchas bandas se dedicaban a sacar un solo LP antes de rendirse a la evidencia de la dificultad de sacar la cabeza a pesar de que en no pocas ocasiones la calidad y el potencial no eran el problema. Así, muchos grupos llegaban con su ilusión bajo el brazo y tras volcarla en un debut desaparecían sin casi hacer ruido, y eso se repetía una vez tras otra y en casi cualquier escena, incluidas aquellas menos reconocidas o tradicionales. Una de esas escenas era la belga, que dejo un buen puñado de bandas de este tipo mucho más que interesantes, como la que hoy dejo en el blog, "Steelover" que publican su debut en 1984, "Glove Me", un heavy metal que en ocasiones hacía algún guiño al hard 'n heavy, y de su disco hoy dejo la canción "Forever" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Arayan Path - Minas Tirith

 

MINAS  TIRITH 

Formados originalmente en Estados Unidos, Arrayan Path se forman en 1997, primero bajo el nombre de Arryan Path hasta 2011 y desde entonces bajo el nombre de Arrayan Path. Practican un sonido que podríamos enmarcar en el power metal, aunque puedan encontrarse otros elementos sonoros, siempre con vocación épica. Battle Beast - Lost In Wars

LOST  IN  WARS 

Tras la salida de Anton Kabanen de la banda en 2015, los finlandeses Battle Beast no tenían otro remedio que salir adelante echando toda la carne en el asador, para lo que debían por una parte mantener la esencia del por entonces emergente grupo, tan alabado por critica y fans, y por otra parte buscar su propia senda para innovar en algo diferente y que les diese su identidad, y en su cuarta obra queda patente ese giro propio. Uno de los temas que más pueden mostrar esa experimentación de la obra es este "Lost in wars" donde buscaron la colaboración de Tomi Joutsen de Amorphis, una canción de la que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube.

Los italianos Frozen Crown presentan en este 2026 su sexto LP de estudio, "The legend of the six kings" que verá la luz de forma oficial para primeros de octubre. El grupo parece contento con su reformación, aportando los nuevos miembros ese equilibrio y capacidad para alcanzar todos los niveles técnicos que la propuesta compositiva de la banda necesita, es como una vuelta a sus origenes pero con mejores armas para desarrollarlo, así pues su sonido parece orientarse más a un heavy power de la vieja escuela, sin renunciar a la vertiente sinfónica ni a momento más crudos y speedicos. El primer adelanto de la nueva obra se llama "The One", y de él dejo hoy en el blog un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.
