Elvenking - The Past Is Forever

THE  PAST  IS  FOREVER 

No se si habrá intencionalidad en el título de esta canción, o simplemente es un sensación mía, pero en la misma detecto más rasgos primigenios del sonido de los italianos Elvenking, más de lo que hacía mucho tiempo que venía escuchando, y es que nunca he disimulado que el mejor material de la banda en mi opinión es el inicial, más que ninguno el mostrado en su debut. Al final esta no es sino otra de esas viejas historias de la música, la evolución frente a la fidelidad a las raices, creo, cada vez más, que el equilibrio además de dificil es lo aconsejable, pero nunca deberían los grupos rechazar los inicios. FREE 

La escena polaca es otra de las que parecen ofrecer un puñado de bandas de calidad siendo a priori una cantera por la que no apostarías a primera vista, sin embargo ha habido bandas clásicas y precursoras de esta escena desde los comienzos de nuestro sonido. por algo será. Hoy quiero traer al blog a una banda polaca, Crimson Valley, un grupo que no ha publicado mucho material de estudio, solo un LP en 2012, tres años después de su formación en 2009, y luego, tras un EP en 2015 casi una década de silencio compositivo hasta que en 2024 se reactivan a ese nivel compositivo ofreciendonos otro EP. Heavy Power metal de corte europeo es la receta de la banda, de la que dejo hoy en el blog su canción "Free", perteneciente a su único LP "Crossing the sky" de 2012, tema del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

DORIAN

Sebastien, la banda checa buen ejemplo del eterno dilema, la calidad o la cantidad, sin duda ellos han escogido lo primero y así en más de década y media de actividad el grupo ha publicado solo cinco LP's de estudio primando esa calidad por encima de otras cosas. Ya desde su debut de 2010 "Tears of white roses" la banda apuntaba alto, no solo por la propia concepción de sus canciones enmarcadas en un power de corte melódico sino además por las colaboraciones, como en la canción del citado album que hoy dejo en el blog, "Dorian" que cuenta con Fabio Lione como refuerzo, por otra parte uno de esos mercenarios del metal que ha colaborado con medio planeta sonoro, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Paragon - The Final Command

THE  FINAL  COMMAND 

Los alemanes Paragon son un grupo formado en 1990, que desde su mismo inicio demostraron que el sendero del sonido clásico, un tanto acelerado y sin aditivos sería su santo y seña para llegar a desarrollar una ya muy larga carrera que ha dado como fruto 13 LP's de estudio, ya más que consistente carrera. Cierto es que sin saltar a la primerísima línea internacional, son una de esas bandas a las que siempre da gusto acercarse con su material nuevo. El último de sus LP's data de 2024. Stormhammer - Wrath Of The Hammer

WRATH  OF  THE  HAMMER 

La banda power alemana Stormhammer es sin duda una de esas bandas de las que no tienes la percepción de lo más que respetable de su discografía, siempre parece quedar en tu retina que tienen por ahí varios discos, que suenan genéricos, con sus buenos momentos, pero es que ya llevan nueve LP's de estudios publicados entre 2000 y 2026, es toda una carrera aguantando como tantos otros grupos en una segunda línea, pero esa resistencia un tanto oculta, cuando se prolonga hace ganar enteros a la banda que lo logra. En este 2026 se publica este noveno disco del grupo "Wrath of the hammer", para el 17 de julio, y de él nos dejan ya su adelanto "Wrath of the hammer" que dará nombre a la obra y del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

JERUSALEM 

10 son los LP's de estudio de la banda sueca Narnia, el decimo, con el evidente título "X", verá la luz el 29 de mayo, es decir en esta semana que casi empezamos, y con el que la banda celebra sus tres décadas en activo, un viaje sonoro en el que el sello de la banda debe considerarse su calidad, el cuidado en sus composiciones que al prolongarse en el tiempo han agrandado la valía de una banda que lleva mucho tiempo haciendo las cosas bien. Siempre he defendido, desde que empecé a escuchar este precioso veneno llamado heavy metal, que de los cuatro llamados grandes del thrash, Anthrax fue, es y espero que siga siendo el que más me ha llenado, el más original, el más fresco, el más valiente, el más fiel a su esencia... el mejor de los cuatro. Estamos hablando de ese tipo de bandas que levantan pasiones a favor y en contra, a mi me siguen encantando. Grimgotts - Fight Against The World

FIGHT  AGAINST  THE  WORLD 

Grimgotts, una banda británica en la que confieso que me ha costado entrar, quizá por su espíritu demasiado sinfónico, no se, sin embargo, desde luego desde que empezaron, hace poco más de una década, el grupo ha dado un montón de material, mucho en formato EP (siete) y cuatro LP's además de todos los singles, es una banda que quizá publica demasiado material, o al menos es esa mi sensación, la que me hace un poco "desconfiar" a la hora de sumergirme en su universo. El caso es que inicialmente, (el nombre no lo puede negar), de influencia lírica en el universo Harry Potter, luego han diversificado más su propuesta creando su propio mundo en que centran sus obras muchas veces conceptuales. Vicious Rumors - Take It Or Leave It

TAKE  IT  OR  LEAVE  IT 

Echando la vista atrás en la carrera de los estadounidenses Vicious Rumors, además de poder considerarseles como pioneros por el inicio de su carrera y lo mostrado en esa primera tanda de LP's, 14 discos de estudio, a fecha de esta reseña, hablan de una cantidad nada desdeñable de música y un nombre que sin haber encabezado nunca a su nicho sonoro, si que ha logrado sin embargo una importancia acumulativa basada en su fidelidad compositiva a si mismos, sabiendo además rearmarse con el paso de los años y adaptar su sonido a los tiempos según iban llegando. En 2016 publicaban su duodécimo album de estudio, "Concussion protocol", donde algunos músicos se unían a la banda destacando el cantante Nick Holleman que según la crítica rejuveneció al grupo dandole un baño de modernidad sin renunciar a sus raices, algo no fácil de lograr. Stormhunter - An Eye For An I

AN  EYE  FOR  AN  I 

Stormhunter, otra banda más que parecía llamada a alcanzar la cumbre en lo que al power metal se refiere pero que tras el parón de una década sufrido entre 2014 y 2024, al menos en términos compositivos, dejó en entredicho la progresión que el grupo venía teniendo en la primera parte de su carrera. Formados en 1998 originalmente en realidad no cogen carrerilla hasta 2007 donde se rearman y comienzan a publicar LP's en 2009 para dar continuidad en 2011 y 2014, y tras la mencionada pausa en 2024 han publicado su cuarto y a fecha de esta reseña último LP. Nothgard - When Gods Cry

WHEN  GODS  CRY 

Los alemanes Nothgard practican un death melódico, más tecnico que folk pero no carente de vocación épica. Con una carrera ya camino de las dos décadas (desde 2009) sin embargo no se han prodigado mucho en lo que a publicar material se refiere, cuatro LP's más un EP en todos estos años, aunque van dando señales de vida compositiva recientemente a través de singles nuevos.
