DARK  TO  LIGHT

Menuda obra completa, lustrosa, engrasada, enganchona, melódica, bien ejecutada, y hasta cierto punto renovando un sonido que por otra parte siempre demostró su calidad, y es que la escuela sueca es casi mágica, en lo que a calidad se refiere. hablamos por supuesto de Treat, que ya demostró en la segunda mitad de los 80 el tremendo potencial en esos momentos con ese hard rock tan americanizado que tanto se llevaba en la época, ahora, desde su resurrección desde 2006 con un baño más euro hard algo más moderno que en este "The endgame", noveno LP de estudio de la banda, cuarto de la segunda época, alcanza un altísimo nivel en su conjunto como obra y en la madurez compositiva del grupo como banda, a estas alturas de la carrera de las bandas, cuando hay calidad, como es el caso, saben perfectamente lo que quieren hacer y hacia donde quieren ir. Muchos temas destacables, el poder de la obra es el conjunto de ella, con algunos destacables como por ejemplo este "Dark To Light" del que hoy dejo en el blog un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Crematory - Break Down The Walls

 

BREAK  DOWN  THE  WALLS

Este pasado fin de semana ha salido a la venta de forma oficial el décimo sexto disco de estudio de la banda germana "Crematory" de título "Inglorious Darkness". Para la ocasión la banda ha reformado en parte su formación con la inclusión de un bajista nuevo y con una cierta vuelta a los origenes en lo vocal ya que ese apartado será responsabilidad exclusiva de Felix Stass, como ocurria a los inicios de la carrera de la banda, y lo hará tanto en la parte gutural como en la limpia. Como siempre la banda de nuevo es fiel a su concepto compositivo, ese sonido gótico - industrial - death melódico que lleva siendo mucho tiempo santo y seña de la banda. El segundo de los temas de la obra lleva por título "Break down the walls" y es esa canción la que hoy quiero dejar en el blog, con esa melodía enganchona que recorre la canción, algunos cambios y contrastes entre las voces limpias y guturales, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - MSG - A King Has Gone

 

A  KING  HAS  GONE

Michael Schenker es una de esas figuras alargadas en esto del heavy metal, que ha ligado siempre su nombre a bandas míticas o a proyectos como mínimo interesantes, con un gran hacer y que lleva en esto de la música desde los 70, ahí es nada. Iniciando su periplo en bandas de la categoría de Scorpions y posteriormente de UFO, vemos claramente su gusto por ese sonido a medio camino entre el heavy metal y el hard rock que ha mamado desde sus inicios y que ha contribuido sin duda a crear y engrandecer. A finales de los 70 decide iniciar su carrera en solitario bajo su propio nombre, o con las siglas MSG, banda que ha tenido dos épocas y que este 2022 ha visto como editaba su décimo tercer LP de estudio, "Universal" para el que se ha rodeado de grandes nombres internacionales para homenajear y homenajearse en una nueva demostración de creatividad y longevidad musical. Y hoy recurro a uno de los momentos del disco por lo musical y lo significativo del tema, "A king has gone" donde el guitarrista alema´n rinde tributo a nada menos que DIO para lo que ha reclutado nada menos que a la sección rítmica original de Rainbow cuando DIO militaba en la banda, adornando la canción vocalmente con Michael Kiske, un tema del que hoy dejo en el blog un enlace a youtube.

 El eterno por que de los recopilatorios, porque no es lo mismo uno que otro, el motivo, el momento en el que se decide editar uno, suele ser cuestión de homenaje o de recaudación económica, suele ser digamos honesto o más bien tratando de aprovechar alguna circunstancia que haga más fácil su venta, en vivo, en estudio, con temas clásicos, con rarezas o caras b, vamos, que todo un mundo. En este caso en concreto, creo que el hecho de la salida de Hansen de la banda, precipitó un recopilatorio quizá demasiado prematuro por el número de LP's que la banda llevaba, si bien el hecho del calibre de los citados discos es un argumento importante, pero los acontecimientos y la incertidumbre que generaban pesaron más que lo estrictamente musical. Casi sonando a despedida se hace un recorrido basicamente "Keeperiano" lo que da una pista más de la ambición discografica por hacer caja más que desde el propio punto de vista de homenaje, pero Helloween tenía cuerda para rato, como quedaría demostrado desde ese momento en adelante, con sus luces y sus sombras, aunque de lo que no cabe duda es que aquellos Helloween realmente nunca volverían, ni siquiera con la última reunión a modo de megabanda. La portada una vez más a cargo de Frederick Moulaert, que tan gran legado "calabacístico" dejo entre los metalheads ochentero-noventeros, un Cover artwork que hoy dejo en el blog.

Después de desvelar tanto la lista de temas que compondrán el album como la portada del mismo, Blind Guardian no deja otro de los adelantos del que será ya su duodécimo LP de estudio "The God Machine" cuya salida oficial se espera para el mes de septiembre. El nuevo tema lleva por nombre "Blood of the elves", que líricamente se basa en la serie de juegos de ordenador "The witcher". En boca de Hansi se trata de una canción que mezcla la parte instruental de lo que hacía la banda en los 90 con la parte vocal de los 2000 en una especie de hibrido. Canciones para una vida - TYR - Valkyrjan

 

VALKYRJAN

La cuarta obra de estudio de los feroeses "TYR" se llama "Land", un disco que denota algún cambio de rumbo compositivo con respecto a las obras anteriores, sobre todo en un detrimento de los componentes progresivos y un aumento de los elementos épicos en sus canciones, un poco más en esa onda de himnos épicos que aquí se hicieron más presentes. El disco lo editan en 2008 cuando la banda se había asentado ya bastante tras su presentación internacional potenciada por su firma con Napalm Records procediendo del minúsculo país insular Islas Feroe" hasta entonces conocidas más que nada por la calidad de su bacalao, (y no me refiero al género musical...). Sea como fuere, estamos ante otra obra con el sello de la banda, también en la utilización de su lengua materna en muchas de sus canciones, dando ese aire aún más nórdico a sus atmósferas. De esta obra dejo hoy una de sus canciones en el blog, concretamente la canción con vocación de medio tiempo "Valkyrjan" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - 7 Seals - Treasure Of The Elder

 

TREASURE  OF  THE  ELDER

Volviendo al sonido Power de corte europeo, siempre es posible seguir encontrandose con bandas que apenas se han dado a conocer, de esas con una breve carrera al menos en lo que a producción discografica se refiere, pero poseedoras de ese encanto y no exentas de calidad para poder haber optado a un mayor reconocimiento. De todas maneras, siempre se ha considerado a este tipo de bandas como un tanto "frikis" sobre todo pr la temática de fantasía, eso ha podido lastrar a muchos de esos grupos, más aún si tenemos en cuenta que la segunda mitad de la década de los noventa y los 2000 sufrieron una cierta saturación de grupos con dicha propuesta entre los que había de todo, también algunos que poco aportaban, al final siempre es dificil despuntar y eso es por muchas posibles razones. "7 Seals" es una banda alemana que encarna muchas de esas cosas, con una carrera larga ya en el tiempo, desde 2003, aunque estén de momento en "pausa", y con solo un LP, "Moribund" de 2008. Se trata de una obra que debe gustar a los fieles del europower, de esos que se alimentan de bandas que encuentran en la historia y la fantasía las letras de sus temas y las atmósferas de sus canciones, un LP único del que hoy quiero dejar en el blog una de sus canciones, concretamente "Treasure of the elder" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Falchion - Shadows In The Wasteland

 

SHADOWS  IN  THE  WASTELAND

De nuevo la cantera finlandesa, tan prolifica, demostraba a mitad de los 2000 que bandas realmente jovenes tenían la capacidad de demostrar a través de su desparpajo la calidad, la herencia, perpetuando en un futuro próximo la corona de la que optaban a apropiarse a nivel internacional en esto del heavy metal, y es que, como todos sabemos Finlandia es una nación pequeña en lo que a población se refiere pero inmensa en lo creativo a nivel metálico. "Falchion" pusieron su granito de arena para que esto fuese así con una breve carrera de apenas siete años (2002 - 2009) con dos buenos LP's en dicho periodo. Resaltar lo de la juventud de la banda ya que en 2002 cuando la formaron los miembros contaban con apenas 16 años. En lo sonoro melodic folk death metal emulando a sus héroes nacionales Ensiferum y Amorphis, menudo par de espejos en los que mirarse, rasgos compositivos de ambas bandas se aprecian sin ningún género de dudas en sus obras.El segundo de sus LP's se tituló "Chronicles of the dead", de 2008 y de él hoy quiero dejar en el blog su temazo "Shados in the wasteland" para amantes de Ensiferum, tema del que dejo un enlace a youtube en el blog.

Canciones para una vida - Eluveitie - Slania's Song

 

SLANIA'S  SONG

El comienzo de la carrera de los suizos Eluveitie, más que el comienzo su segundo zarpazo, fue uno de esos disco que les puso de un plumazo en la escena internacional proyectándo a la banda y su potencial directa hacia un futuro brillante, parecía que llegaban para comerse el mundo, aunque más adelante es innegable el frenazo que tales pretensiones han dado. El caso es que "Slania" de 2008, merece todos y cada uno de los piropos mencionados y además justifica esa expectativa que se creó en general en un momento en el que el folk metal death melódico estaba en uno de sus momentos dulces. Como digo "Slania" es el segundo disco de estudio de la banda, y para mi gusto es el más completo, y el que muestra el mejor nivel medio a lo largo de la obra, a esto hay que sumar que su propuesta era aún desconocida para la mayoría y que duda cabe de que es una banda que suena fenomenal y que lo que puede restarle un poco es esa sensación algo repetitiva una vez que les escuchas mucho, pero en el momento de este disco todos los astros se alineaban para proyectarles muy muy alto. Canciones para una vida - Skiltron - Fast And Wild

 

FAST  AND  WILD

Este fue el primer material de la banda argentina "Skiltron" que cayó en mis manos, y desde la primera vez que lo escuché me quedé sorprendido , más aún al conocer el origen de la banda que a juzgar por su sonido les colocaría uno en el norte de Europa más que en otra parte, pero no, Argentina es su origen. La banda viene de las cenizas de "Century" formada en 1997 y que en 2004 cambia a Skiltron permaneciendo así hasta la actualidad, aunque 2011 fue un año de desbandada de miembros del grupo que terminarían por formar "Triddana" con una línea compositiva muy similar. Skiltron cuenta con cinco LP's de estudio a sus espaldas, lo cual se antoja quizá un tanto escaso y de hecho desde 2016 no editan nada nuevo en forma de LP. "Beheading the liars" es su segundo LP de estudio, de 2008, y como decía al inicio uno de mis preferidos también por ser el que me sirvió para descubrirlos y después seguirlos. De este citado segundo LP quiero hoy dejar en el blog uno de sus temas, de los muchos que pueden destacar, en concreto "Fast and wild" con todos los rasgos propios de la banda, y de la que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Viron - On The Run

 

ON  THE  RUN

Vamos con otra banda de breve incursión en la escena internacional, con solo dos LP's editados en un periodo de apenas dos años, pero más que suficiente para poder dejar buenas pinceladas de su sonido, del potencial, enmarcado en un power metal con rasgos heavy metálicos. De origen germano, los integrantes de la banda tampoco es que tengan un historial increible, sin embargo su buen hacer se nota en el citado par de trabajos que componen su discografía, "NWOGHM" de 2006, y "Ferrum Gravis" de 2008, y es de esté segundo LP de la banda, que finalmente terminaría siendo el último, del que hoy quiero dejar en el blog uno de sus temas, creo que buen representante del sonido de la banda, en concreto es la canción "On the run" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Scorpions - Passion Rules The Game

 

PASSION  RULES  THE  GAME

Hablando de mitos de esos que llegan un nivel más allá, de esos que siempre tienen y¡un extra, por sonido, por melodía, por carrera longeva, por ventas incluso, Scorpions es sin duda de los punteros además de ser de los pioneros, y por eso mismo están más expuestos a todo, a la ayuda que su propio nombre implica además de a las críticas de quienes consideran que en un momento u otro no hayan hecho las cosas bien. Para gustos los colores, pero de lo que no hay duda es de que a finales de los 80 y comienzos de los 90, toda la escena metálica cambiaba, y muchas bandas se acercaban a un sonido más americano, en el aspecto hard rockero, ya que vendía y al final este es un negocio al que las bandas como es lógico quieren acceder. Para 1988, la banda era ya veterana, venía ya de unos años demoledores en que crearon su mito y flirtearon como otros con el citado sonido más vendible en el momento, sin embargo con este "Savage amusement" lograron un señor disco por mucho que a muchos les pese, con temas ya clásicos en los setlist del grupo como este "Passion rules the game" del que hoy dejo en el blog un enlace a youtube. Canciones para una vida - Reckless Love - Kids Of The Arcade

 

KIDS  OF  THE  ARCADE

La banda finlandesa "Reckless Love" regresa este 2022 a la vida compositiva después de que ellos mismos reconociesen que durante mucho tiempo veían complicada su continuidad como banda al encontrarse en una especie de callejón sin salida. El anterior LP "Invader" lo editaron en 2016, todo un lustro ha pasado desde ese momento pero la inspiración surgió desde el sonido ochentero en su más pura esencia, mezclado con ese aire moderno, algo electrónico a lo synthwave y con una temática de videojuegos en el sentido de forma de vida ochentera, además de la cinematografía de la época, en definitiva todo un homenaje a la cultura ochentera. Desde luego tanto flirteo con elementos programados, electrónicos y retro terminan alejandose de lo que viene a ser heavy metal clásico, pero al mismo tiempo la limpieza productiva, la calidad de los músicos y el punto de tocar la década de los ochenta tan de lleno hace que los que la vivimos de niños encontremos familiar y hogareña a esta obra que merece la pena escuchar. Hoy quiero dejar otro de los temas que la componen, "Kids of the arcade" que te introduce en un videojuego o en una de esas salas de "maquinas" que entonces se estilaban, una canción de la que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Grave Digger - Hell Is My Purgatory

 

HELL  IS  MY  PURGATORY

Sin duda alguna estamos ante la enésima juventud de los germanos "Grave Digger", una banda imprescindible desde su inicio que no hace sino subrayar esa importancia con obras como la pasada "Fields of blood" de 2020 por ejemplo, y que en este 2022 retoma otra vez la temática ya utilizada en algún otro album, concretamente en "Knights of the cross" de 1998, que no es otra que la de los cruzados. Se tratará ya de su vigésimo primer LP de estudio en una carrera que ya se va extendiendo a lo largo de cinco décadas distintas, ahí es nada. Según sus propias declaraciones estamos ante una obra contundente, variada y con alguna sorpresa, pero que al mismo tiempo mantiene todos los elementos que han hecho de su sonido su sello de identidad. El disco que llevará por título "Symbol Of Eternity" verá la luz de forma oficial a finales de agosto y su primer sencillo se llama "Hell is my purgatory", canción de la que hoy dejo un enlace a youtube en el blog.

Parece cada vez más claro que la exclusividad de Sammet en su dedicación compositiva para con Avantasia va en detrimento de la existencia de Edguy, la banda madre original del polifacético músico germano. es una pena en ese sentido, pero mirandolo desde la otra perspectiva, de ese concepto compositivo a lo grande, con semejantes colaboraciones que es Avantasia, el bueno de Sammet parece tener cuerda para rato. Este 2022 es testigo de momento de su single "The wicked rule the night" con la colaboración de Ralf Scheepers, un clásico del mundo metálico al que resulta inútil tratar de presentar por la inmensa trayectoria que le avala  El single formará parte del siguiente LP de la banda "A paranormal evening with the moonflower society" que verá su salida en verano. dejo hoy un enlace a youtube en el blog de este "The wicked rule the night".

Canciones para una vida - Grailknights - Legions Of Heroes

 

LEGIONS  OF  HEROES

Sería un error enorme juzgar a esta banda solo por su "performance", ese aspecto que han escogido para encontrar su camino a la hora de construir su música, ya que desde el punto de vista estrictamente musical esta es una banda que lleva ya muchos años demostrando la calidad que atesora a lo largo de sus ya 6 LP's de estudio más dos EP's. Desde su punto melodeath, al fondo power pasando por esa facilidad para introducir elementos variopintos en función de la temática de la canción en cuestión, los alemanes "Grailknights" son una banda con mayúsculas. El último LP, "Muscle bound for glory" editado este febrero son una confirmación más de lo que digo, obra buena en su conjunto, de la que se pueden destacar muchos de sus temas, como por ejemplo "Legions of heroes" de la que hoy dejo un enlace a youtube en el blog.

Segundo adelanto de los escoceses Alestorm de la nueva obra, séptimo LP de su discografía "Seventh rum of a seventh rum", que será por completo desvelado el próximo mes de junio. El segundo de los singles no podría ser má eso, Single, cuenta con todos y cada uno de los atributos propios de la banda, todos y cada uno de sus clichés con un acierto enorme en lo que a enganchar al oido se refiere, su título "P.A.R.T.Y." y que va acompañado por un simpático clip oficial de animación del que hoy dejo un enlace a youtube. PLAYING  WITH  FIRE

Los estadounidense "Space Vacation" vuelven a la carga con su quinto LP de estudio "White Hot Reflection", en donde ponen un punto de continuidad a su concepto compositivo a medio camino de muchas cosas, entre un heavy metal clásico y un power, siempre de corte americanos y de calidad demostrada y demostrable. Formados en 2008 tampoco es que hayan llegado a destacar internacionalmente sin embargo es uno de esos grupos que al descubrirlo uno termina teniendo una sensación muy positiva de potencial y de cierto peso en su discografía ya editada. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog uno de los temas de esta nueva obra, "White hot reflection" como digo de 2022, editado de forma oficial hace tan solo un par de semanas, concretamente la canción "Playing with fire" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Sands Of Eternity - Enlightened (Mighty Warrior)

 

ENLIGHTENED  (MIGHTY  WARRIOR)

Un nuevo recordatorio del excelente estado de forma de la escena griega, y ya son legión, está claro que en el momento en el que un país empieza a sacar bandas de calidad el efecto domino hace que eso solo vaya en aumento y en estas estamos con Grecia. El nuevo proyecto, banda, se llama "Sands of Eternity", y realmente se trata de una reactivación de unos músicos que lo intentearon a través de otros nombres desde 1996, primero como "Hourglass" y luego como "Hourglass Sand of eternity", y aquí cabe bien ese argumento que acabo de exponer, ante la avalancha de bandas griegas que van saliendo y sobre todo a tenor de la calidad de muchas de ellas, parece más propicio que otros músicos, arrastrados por la inercia positiva de la marca Grecia intenten lograr lo que hasta la fecha no lograron, veremos como les sale la jugada, de momento, desde 2021 la banda se ha reactivado bajo el nombre de "Sands of eternity" y en este mes de mayo han editado su primer LP, "Beyond the realms of time" en una onda heavy power de fondo melódico, con calidad tanto compositiva como interpretativa que no me extrañaría que terminase por cuajar en virtud a la calidad demostrada. Canciones para una vida - Wizard - Years Of War

 

YEARS  OF  WAR

Es increible como muchas bandas de las que no han saltado a la primera fila de reconocimiento o éxito, persisten en su propuesta, a pesar de los pesares, y terminan por tener una larga carrera llena de obras, un buen ejemplo es el de los germanos "Wizard", grupo que lleva en activo desde 1989, de forma ininterrumpida, y en la que han editado ya un total de 12 LP's de estudio de un heavy metal crudo, que flirtea con sonidos power y épicos, pero al modo true, de hecho muchos los han comparado desde el inicio con Manowar y sin duda en muchos aspectos está totalmente justificada esa comparación. El décimo segundo LP de la banda se titula "Metal in my head" y redunda en todo lo dicho, de hecho en muchos sentidos en un pequeño giro hacia sus propios inicios. Editado en 2021, las eñas de identidad de la banda están intactas, buen ejemplo es el tema que hoy dejo en el blog, "Years of war" con esos coros épicos, y esa melodía que se repite a lo largo y ancho del tema quedandose de manera peremne en tu cabeza, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - TYR - Torsteins Kuaedi

 

TORSTEINS  KUAEDI

La parte inicial de la carrera de los feroeses TYR resultaba bastante diferente de como se ha ido desarrollando posteriormente, diferente en el concepto mismo musical, quizá menos profesional, quizá más folk tradicional, con unos tintes mucho más progresivos, pero siempre con el espiritu de la carrera de la banda presente. TYR es siempre reconocible, y además hasta 2018 se puede decir que ha gozado de bastante estabilidad en su formación, en ese 2018 el guitarrista Trji Skibenaes deja la banda, hablando de los miembros que llevaban durante toda la carrera de la banda militando en la misma. Siempre es un granactivo la estabilidad y suele hablar de proyectos sólidos, con ideas claras y paso firme. Este es el caso de TYR también, ya con ocho LP's de estudio a sus espaldas, el último de ellos de 2019, por lo que no resultaría raro tener pronto noticias sobre nuevo material de estudio. Hoy quiero volver a su tercer LP, "Ragnarok" de 2006, concretamente "Torsten Kugedi" es la canción perteneciente a ese album que quiero dejar en el blog, buen ejemplo del citado ambiente más progresivo de esa época, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

APEX

Siempre que las bandas grandes, los buenos en su nicho sonoro, deciden que van a sacar un LP nuevo, si te gustan, desde que empiezan a mostrar sus primeras pinceladas hasta que sacan el susodicho LP a uno se el hace largo, y suele recurrir a la escucha a veces compulsiva de su material anterior ya quizá demasiado trillado. El nuevo disco de los suecos Dynazty saldrá en agosto y yo no he podido resistirme a machacar de nuevo su "The dark delight" de 2020, una obra ya muy recomendada en este blog y de la que hoy dejaré otro tema de los que la componen, y es que Dynazty ha llegado a ese punto de madurez y evolución que muestra inequivocamente un camino personal que ha ido cambiando según su momento para dejar un nexo común de calidad por encima de todo, otro ejemplo es este "Apex" de 2020, tema del que hoy dejo en el blog un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Steel Arctus - Master Of War

 

MASTER  OF  WAR

Primeros ecos del que será el segundo LP de estudio de los griegos "Steel Arctus", cuya salida oficial se espera pra el próximo mes de octubre, unos primeros ecos que nos muestran varias cosas, genéricamente hablando vemos una vez más el buen estado de forma de la escena griega que sigue pariendo bandas y además dandoles continuidad, y más en concreto vemos como Steel Arctus perpetua su concepto en ese heavy power de corte épico, un tanto true, prometiendo aumentar el número de bandas que han escogido ese camino tan "heavy" para dar rienda suelta a sus composiciones. El título de la obra será "Master of war" que es igualmente el del primero de los singles que la conforman, una canción de la que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube.
