FREEDOM

Sin ningún lugar a dudas esta banda alemana, "Tragedian" me trae de vuelta esa sensación clásica del power metal que empezó a despegar en la década de los 90, quizá tenga que ver con el tipo de producción, o quizá sea también por los ingredientes "speedicos" que presenta, el caso es que enseguida me resulta familiar escuchar su propuesta que en este 2023 verá como se publica su quinto LP de estudio, "Master of illusion", concretamente para este mismo mes de marzo. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog uno de los temas que componen la obra, concretamente "Freedom" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Magic Opera - Battle Of Ice

 

BATTLE  OF  ICE

Poco tiene de novedoso a estas alturas el concepto de opera rock, o de metal opera, algo que llegó a su máxima expresión desde la perspectiva de la aceptación del gran público en el comienzo de siglo con la banda Avantasia. Las virtudes, en lo personal, de este tipo de grupos están en una balanza junto con sus punto deviles, y para mí suelen pesar menos las virtudes que los defectos, en el sentido de la obra en su conjunto, casi suele hacerseme imposible tragarme uno de estos discos de una sentada, sin embargo, el buen hacer compositivo que suele acompañar a estos grupos, las interesantes colaboraciones, suele hacer que fraccionarlas en "comodos plazos" sea mucho más "digestivo" para mí, y de esta manera consigo hacerme con la obra mucho mejor. Hoy quiero traer al blog a uno de estos proyectos, el del italiano Marco Garau, y su "Magic Opera" que va ya por su segundo capítulo. El primero de ellos lo edita en 2021 y este segundo ha visto la luz este mes de enero. De este episodio dejo hoy en el blog el tema que le da nombre, "Battle of ice" con ese ramalazo neoclásico un tanto a lo "At Vance" por ejemplo, pero con la carga drámatica del concepto metal opera, tema del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Nuevo single de los germanos "Storm Seeker" que redunda en lo expuesto en anteriores entradas, estamos ante uno de esos grupos en franco crecimiento, con una propuesta y un nicho sonoro cada vez más personales, con la mezcla justa de elementos varios que les va dando la personalidad que les diferencia de otras bandas. Como digo el nuevo single "Miles and miles" es una nueva prueba de lo dicho, el cuarto ya del grupo antes de que salga su nuevo album "Nautic force" para finales de abril. CUP  OF  GOLD

Nuevo material de estudio de los argentinos "Percival", en esta ocasión en formato single, una canción que por el momento no tengo noticias de que preceda a un nuevo LP, pero que desde luego deja clara la confirmación de lo demostrado en su primer LP, esas buenas sensaciones que me dejo su "Riders of the sun" de 2021 se refrendan en este tema, "Cup Of Gold", en esa misma clave de heavy power metal de corte épico, una vez más autoproducido, y una vez más debería más de una discográfica fijarse en el potencial de estos chicos para darles un poquito de apoyo. Canciones para una vida - Saint Deamon - Load Your Cannons

 

LOAD  YOUR  CANNONS

Segundo adelanto del que será el cuarto LP de la banda sueca "Saint Deamon", disco este "League of the serpent" que verá la luz el próximo mes de abril, y que esperemos que sea el comienzo de una mayor continuidad compositiva de esta magnífica banda. Parece que con la presentación de este nuevo trabajo se adivina una mejora en ese aspecto ya que la anterior obra pertenece a 2019 y tres o cuatro años dan mejores sensaciones que la década que paso entre su segunda obra (2009) y la tercera. Veremos, de momento el segundo single se titula "Load your cannons" y nos deja ese gran sabor de boca ante lo que viene, esperemos que se confirme en adelante una mayor continuidad compositiva, la banda lo merece sin duda.

THE  DEAD  QUEEN'S  RACE

Noticias compositivas de los austriacos "Dragony" en forma de un single en principio sin noticias por mi parte de que vaya a formar parte de un nuevo LP, aunque cabría perfectamente que así fuese teniendo en cuenta la inrecia compositiva de la banda en los últimos años y que el último LP del grupo sea ya de 2021. Es otro de esos grupos que han dado un paso adelante en los últimos años y además se le nota bastante la mano en la producción de Seeb Levermann que en ese apartado a padrinado también a esta banda. Como siempre power metal melódico y en cierta medida sinfónico, encarnado en esta ocasión en el mencionado al inicio de esta reseña single titulado "The deade queen's race" del que hoy dejo en el blog un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Angus McSix - Sixcalibur

 

SIXCALIBUR 

Una vez más sucede esa vieja historia, la de la separación de miembros de una banda que deciden proseguir el planteamiento calcado al realizado en la banda de la que deciden salir, evidenciando seguramente una salida no muy amistosa, y la inminente respuesta compositiva de la misma editando material sin aquel sustituido por otro músico. Es facilmente previsible que no sea casualidad, y ese rencilla mencionada, de la que no se nada por cierto, parece también evidenciarse. Sea como sea, ahora tenemos dos bandas en lugar de una, "Angus Mc Six" por un lado que editará su debut "...And the sword of power" en solo unas semanas, (21 de abril), y Gloryhammer con su "Return to the kingdom of Fife" para el 2 de junio. El segundo adelanto de "Angus McSix" se titula "Sixcalibur" y de él dejo en el blog un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Virgin - Ice And Fire

 

ICE  AND  FIRE

Nueva demostración de la interminable colección de bandas ochenteras en clave de heavy metal clásico que inundaban la escena internacional en dicha década, lo que contribuyó también a que muchas de ellas no pudiesen asomar casi ni la cabeza y que llegaran a desaparecer demasiado prematuramente, la idea tantas veces expuesta. Hoy la banda es "Virgin", en clave de heavy metal, en la primera mitad de la década y en la floreciente por entonces escena germana. Es bajo esas premisas inevitable sacar a relucir el espejo por antonomasia de Accept, espejo compositivo en que se miraron muchos de aquellos ilusionados germanos que intentaban demostrar algo en el mundillo. En este caso hay ciertos momentos vocales un tanto "Acceptianos", pero en general se trata de un heavy metal clasicote que gustará a los amantes del género aún en pañales, el original. Solo editó la banda este LP "Virgin" en 1984, seguido por un EP al año siguiente "Mary Anne", antes de diluirse su esfuerzo en la nada y desaparecer, una vez más una pena por el potencial. Canciones para una vida - Black Knight - Black Knight

 

BLACK  KNIGHT

Hoy quiero dejar en el blog otro tema de la banda canadiense "Black Knight", otro de los inexplicablemente desconocidos grupos que apenas si dejaron una muestra de su valía en la década de los ochenta, y uno de esos grupos en los que más se puede aplicar esa sensación de que podrían haber llegado realmente alto a juzgar por lo poco que nos dejaron como muestra. Haevy metal clásicote, con esa sensación proto power metalera, no debe uno dejarse engañar por logo y portada, pues estamos ante lo que debería haber sido solo la parte inicial de la carrera de una gran banda, que como decía al inicio, por desgracia simplemente desapareció demasiado prematuramente. Solo un material editado, en formato EP en 1985, que veinte años después se completaría con más canciones de esa época en un recopilatorio, una mustra más del potencial y un motivo más para el lamento de no haber visto una carrera larga de estos chicos. Incluiré el tema que hoy dejo en el blog en el mismo año y con la misma portada que su EP "Mastar of disaster" de 1985, aunque en realidad no apareciese en dicha obra pero si provenía compositivamente de ella, el tema es "Black Knight" y de él dejo hoy un enlace a youtube.

PLAYING  GAMES

La escena holandesa ochentera guardaba también muchos secretos, en muchos casos absolutamente desconocidos, pero que resultaban como mínimo interesantes si tus gustos apuntan al heavy metal de la old School, es el caso por ejemplo de la obra que traigo hoy al blog de la banda "Together", otro grupo con apenas un puñado de demos que editó algo de su material en formato EP, en esta ocasión en 1985. Se trata del EP "Playing Games" que mostraba cuatro de sus canciones llenas una vez más del potencial no respaldado por el éxito, pues una vez más la combinación de una escena saturada, una escuela como la holandesa por aquel entonces desconocida y no tener apoyo de una de las grandes discográficas del momento les hizo casi imposible asomar la cabeza más allá de la citada obra, de la que hoy dejo en el blog el tema que la dio título, "Playing games" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Dark Wizard - Big Typhoon

 

BIG  TYPHOON

Vamos con el primer material editado por la banda holandesa "Dark Wizard" de la que ya he hablado en este blog. Hablamos de la exhuberante escena de los 80, demoledoramente inabarcable, muy sincera ya que muchas bandas, con toda la ilusión, eso si, eran onscientes de la dificultad de salir adelante por los problemas promocionales inherentes a la época, por la saturación de la escena y mil motivos más, lo que por otra parte les hacía sin complejos construir música para sí mismos, lo que es siempre un plus. Dark Wizard llegaban a mitad de los 80, editando en 1984 este primer material en formato EP, "Devil's Victim" con cinco temas, algo que vería su continuidad en 1985 con su primer LP y único de esa primera época, hablamos siempre de heavy metal clásico, como digo honesto, sin más pretensiones pero lleno con todas las virtudes de ese propósito. Canciones para una vida - Gillan - Running White Face City Boy

 

RUNNING,  WHITE  FACE,  CITY  BOY

Volvamos otra vez a las raices, al porqué de nuestro sonido, a los pioneros, en esta ocasión encarnados en la figura del músico Ian Gillan, el británico que militase también en Deep Purple, para tratar después de desarrollar una carrera al margen de dicha banda bajo su nombre. El cantante contribuyó con su propia visión a poner los mimbres de lo que vendría después, es clara influencia para muchas bandas, muy parecido a lo de Blackmore con Rainbow recién publicado en el blog, aunque la proyección de Gillan fue menor y menos reconocida, pero igualmente respetable, influyente y reseñable. En 1980 la banda editaba su tercer LP de estudio, como siempre entre ese incipiente heavy metal y un hard rock primigenio, a medio camino. El citado LP se tituló "Glory Road" y de él quiero hoy dejar a modo de ejemplo la fantástica "Running white face city boy", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube. Sonido clásico una vez más, sonido importante históricamente.

Canciones para una vida - Rainbow - All Night Long

 

ALL  NIGHT  LONG

No podía faltar en el blog una de esas bandas unidas a un nombre sobre todo, inmenso, pero no solo, también a muchos otros en un momento u otro, tambien gigantes en esto de la música, otra de esas bandas fundamentales por lo hecho, la influencia, la historia, son "Rainbow". El nombre tras la creación es Ritchie Blackmore, un mito al que no hace falta presentar. La banda unió además las sendas musicales de nombres como Dio, Cozy Powel, Don Airey, Graham Bonnet, Bobby Rondinelli, Joe Lynn Turner, o Doogey White entre otros, menudo plantel, casi eso justificaría en si mismo la calidad. Rainbow nace en 1975, una vez más como vehiculo natural del músico Ritchie Blackmore para dar salida a material bajo su propia perspectiva que de otra forma no salidría con su por entonces banda madre Deep Purple, de hecho, Blackmore deja Deep Purple en la parte inicial del nacimiento de Rainbow. Quizá pretendía dar un giro menos heavy a su sonido, aunque los inicios de Rainbow, sobre todo también gracias a la voz de Dio no terminaban de ir por ese camino. En 1978 Dio sale de la banda y es sustituido por Graham Bonnet, con quien hace un giro más hard rockero. En ese momento de su historia, en 1979, editan "Down To Earth", el cuarto ya LP de la banda, El primero con Bonnet y sin Dio, y del que hoy quiero dejar en el blog uno de sus temas, concretamente el que abre el disco, "All night long", y que irá en el blog etiquetado con la fecha 1980 ya que en ese año fue editado en formato maxi single con el tema instrumental "Weiss Heim" también muy recomendable y que no aparecía en el citado album, un tema este "All night long" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Indudablemente, en el mejor momentos de su carrera en lo que a popularidad se refiere e igualmente en lo referente a la composición, los finlandeses Stratovarius eran referente del sonido que iba a copar gran parte del sonido metálico de los años finales de los 90 y la primera mitad de los 2000, el llamado "Europower". El equilibrio en este LP es total, la obra se ha ganado un lugar de privilegio en los corazones de muchos metalheads, y con todo merecimiento, y hoy quiero dejar en el blog uno de sus temas icónicos, "The kiss of judas" del que hoy quiero dejar un enlace a youtube en el blog.

HAMMERFALL

La verdad es que plantearse hablar de esta banda resulta siempre cansado desde el punto de vista de las posiciones adquiridas por todos, la banda con su rol impuesto de banda sin talento o la de muchos metalheads que considerarían que perderían lustre metálico reconociendo que les gusta su material o la banda en general, es demasiado recurrente, y cansado, la verdad. Lo que es innegable por parte de todos, o así debería ser, es la importancia de la banda, de su carrera, de su contribución, y desde luego, aparte de esto, están los gustos personales, completamente respetables. La primera obra de los suecos se me antoja particularmente importante para su devenir como banda unido al impecable sucesor "legacy of kings" del año siguiente. Era 1997, un momento clave para editar un disco debut de tal calibre, tan ilusionante para banda como para oyentes y de dicho LP quiero hoy dejar en el blog otro de sus temas, en concreto "Hammerfall" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Andi Deris - The King Of Seven Eyes

 

THE  KING  OF  7  EYES

Es desde siempre muy común que los miembros de otras bandas busquen su propio camino alejados de sus bandas madres para dar salida a temas propios o a una visión externa que no cabría en las citadas bandas en que militan. Esto es siempre más notorio a medida que la banda es más conocida como es lógico, y en ese marco encontramos la carrera en solitario del vocalista de Helloween Andi Deris. Tampoco es que su proyecto en paralelo a Helloween haya sido alimentado en exceso, (solo tres LP's) y muy dispersos, dos a finales de los 90 y otro a comiezos de los 10. Estamos hablando de un material a medio caminos de lo hecho con Helloween, y su época espectacular con Pink Cream 69, hablamos de momentos más power y de giros más heavy hard heavy,. Para mi gusto el primero de sus intentos por su cuenta, "Come in from th rain" de 1997, es el mejor de sus LPs, muy completo, con grandes momentos, varios, la nota media de la obra se me antoja medio alto, facil, relativamente variado y entretenido. Uno de los temas más "Helloweeneros" podría ser este "The king of seven eyes", del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Avalanch - Horizonte Eterno

 

HORIZONTE  ETERNO

Desde el inicio de su carrera, la banda española "Avalanch" siempre me ha parecido de lo mejorcito de nuestro país, han ido evolucionando, pasando por diferentes periodos compositivos y son ya muchos los años a través de ya cuatro décadas diferentes los que los de Rionda van regalandonos su sonido que ha llegado a tener esa personalidad reconocible sin negar nunca ese paso necesario a no dejar de evolucionar, pero manteniendo el contacto suficiente y necesario para no perderse por caminos demasiado alejados de las raices. Si bien sus inicios fueron hijos de la época en que nacieron, por lo tanto bastante power metaleros, el componente progresivo les ha ido acercando a muchos otros nichos compositivos sin encuadrarles en ninguno en concreto, dicho esto sea como una virtud. A pesar del gran número de músicos que han pasado a lo largo de los años por sus filas, Alberto Rionda siempre permanece detrás, omnipresente, motro y alma de la banda, para dejar su huella en cada obra, en cada época, y parece que se abre una nueva ante nosotros, con una nueva reorganización de miembros, alguno de ellos ya más estable y de la talla de por ejemplo Mike Terrana a la batería, como nombre absolutamente reconocido y reconocible. Estrenan para la ocasión cantante, para mí el desconocido José Pardial, que a juzgar por el primer adelanto "Horizonte Eterno" de la nueva obra, "El dilema de los dioses", promete darnos grandes momentos al micro. FURY  OF  THE  GODS

Finalmente ha trascendido el título y la fecha de edición oficial de la banda internacional diseñada por la discográfica "AFM", "All For Metal". La obra se llamará "Legends" y la fecha veraniega de salida será el siete de julio. Para aprovechar dicho anuncio han adelantado su cuarto tema "Fury Of The gods". En lo musicla nada nuevo respecto a lo anteriormente publicado, parece fácil intuir de que va a ir la obra y la banda con lo ya expuesto. Canciones para una vida - Burning Witches - The Dark Tower

 

THE  DARK  TOWER

Poco a poco va desarrollandose la carrera musical de esta banda, "Burning Witches", las suizas que centran su sonido en un concepto clásico y que solo desde 2015 en que se formaron han editado ya cuatro LP's de estudio, y el inminente quinto "The dark tower" cuya salida oficial se espera para mitad de mayo. A todo esto hay que añadirle dos trabajos más en formato EP, lo que habla de un compromiso grande por alcanzar la cima. El primero de los adelantos del nuevo trabajo lleva el mismo título que la obra, y de él dejo hoy en el blog un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial, "Burning Witches", sin duda algo más que fachada, (que sin duda tienen).

GODS  OF  WAR

Segundo y último trabajo en formato LP editado por los alemanes "Lanzer", un grupo que siempre se dedicó al heavy metal con guiños hard n' heavy. El citado segundo trabajo en largo formato llevó por título "Under a different sky" editado en 1995, un tanto tardío para una propuesta que como digo versa estilísticamente en un heavy metal de corte clásico aunque la portada pudiese sugerir un power o heavy power más acorde a la época y que aquí no se dá. De todas maneras es un material interesante, que una vez más habla de una carrera que puiese haber ofrecido más longevidad y sobre todo más productividad, pero tras esta obra nada más se ha sabido del grupo en lo referente a lo compositivo. Como dato interesante de la obra sobre todo el de las colaboraciones de lujo, como Kai Hansen en uno de los temas, Chris Bay en otro pas de ellas o Sascha Paeth en otro, ahí es nada. NO  PRAYER  AT  MIDNIGHT

Los germanos Powerwolf siguen a lo suyo, muy adaptados a la forma moderna de venderse, esa continuidad total de mostrar novedades, vendiendolas perfectamente en formatos conocidos o novedosos, en esta época en que las cosas son tan volátiles, permanecer en la retina del gran público de manera asidua se antoja casi fundamental, y en este 2023 bajo el nombre de "Interludium" editarán una nueva obra en formato LP pero con seis temas nuevos completados con rarezas del toda su carrera. En estos días lanzan uno de los seis temas nuevos en el anzuelo, para tratar de pescar ventas, "No prayer at midnight" en formato "Powerwolf", sinónimo de éxito como demuestran sus grandes datos de ventas de entradas en sus shows en vivo a nivel planetario. Canciones para una vida - Altar Of The King - Fire

 

FIRE

Una banda más de esas "monodisco", en este caso enmarcada en la década de los 90 y en el género thrash o heavy speed thrash. Llegaban quizá un pelín tarde a este tipo de sonido, más que nada para pretender despuntar sonando así con tantas bandas ya consolidadas que eran las que se comian el pastel en lo que al género se refiere, en ese momento lo novedoso era mucho más nuevo, nuevas fusiones, en ocasiones mucho menos acertadas a mis oidos (sobre todo el grunge) atraian las miradas, el despuntar del power actual, etc hacían que las bandas que apostaban por ese tipo de thrash siendo desconocidas no llegasen al gran público. Desde luego los estadounidenses "Altar of the King" sonaban bien, gustarán a los amantes del thrash clásico y de escuela americana y solo dejaron la cítada única muestra títulada como el nombre de la banda, "Altar Of The King" en 1994 para después diluirse en el anonimato del que nunca llegaron a salir, a pesar, una vez más, del potencial demostrado.
