SCREAMERS  IN  THE  STORM 

De nuevo la escena griega en el blog, en esta ocasión para referirme a otra banda, Emerald Sun que ha cumplido ya más de veinticinco años de actividad ya que se formaron con el presente siglo, y a pesar de no haber alcanzado nunca la primera línea de reconocimiento si han desarrollado una carrera que ya cuenta en su discografía con seis LP's de estudio, el último de los cuales data de 2022. Power metal es su marco compositivo, con una tendencia clara hacia el europower. De su cuarta obra, "Metal Dome", de 2015 quiero dejar en el blog su tema "Screamers in the storm" del que dejo un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.

Uriah Heep - Bird Of Prey

BIRD  OF  PREY

De vuelta a los orígenes, tan necesarios para entender el conjunto que es un todo, antes y ahora, desde luego los dos focos principales de aquella época del incipiente nacimiento del heavy metal destacaban sobre todos los demás, el estadounidense y el británico, y de este último, mirando al inicio de los inicios traigo hoy al blog de nuevo a Uriah Heep, que en 1971 publicaban su segundo LP de estudio "Salisbury", hogar sonoro de unos de esos temas icónicos de la misma música, como fue "Lady in black" tan importante, tan versionado, pero hogar igualmente de otros temas como "Bird of prey" que hablan del nivelón del album, una canción de la que dejo hoy en el blog un enlace a youtube.

Unicorn - Avylonia (That's How The Story Began)

AVYLONIA  (THAT'S  HOW  THE  STORY  BEGAN) 

Unicorn, la banda italiana, es otro de esos casos atípicos, fugaces y sorprendentes, en lo que a calidad se refiere, te chocas de pronto con una banda de un solo trabajo, como salida de ninguna parte, en una clave compositiva de power melódico un poco fuera de lo que su escena pudiera hacerte pensar a priori. Su único trabajo "The 13th sign" de 2005 deja un buen sabor de boca, hace que te preguntes la eterna cuestión en estos casos de por que no habran seguido estos tíos. Trick Or Treat - The Great Escape

THE  GREAT  ESCAPE 

Completamente alejada de lo esperable en general de la escena italiana en lo compositivo, la banda Trick Or treat tiene un sonido mucho más nórdico o germano en lo que a power metal se refiere, muy happy Helloweenero si se quiere. En 2016 el grupo sacaba su cuarto LP de estudio, el segundo de la dupla conceptual Rabbit's Hill, que se basaban en la novela de  Richard Adams, "Watership Down", y para esta segunda entrega contaba con invitados de lujo dentro del power internacional lo que redondeaba el sonido más si cabe. Stormlord - Motherland

 

 MOTHERLAND

Los italianos Stormlord son una banda formada en 1991 pero de las que tardaron mucho en comenzar a publicar material de estudio, primero en una clave más de death metal crudo para ir tornandose más sinfonicos y melódicos a medida que transcurría su carrera hasta llegar incluso a introducir más elemento power en la parte final de la misma. Solo seis LP's de estudio en todo este tiempo a los que añadir dos EP's se antoja bastante corta discografía, y de hecho desde 2019 no publican material nuevo de estudio. Hoy quiero recuperar su disco "Hesperia", de 2013, el que suponía su quinto album y penúltimo a fecha de esta reseña, del que quiero dejar la canción "Motherland" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Symphonity - The Choice

THE  CHOICE 

Symphonity es una banda checa formada en 2006 bajo este nombre pero que proviene de las cenizas de otras bandas desde 1994 tales como Otter y Nemesis, es decir, hay toda una trayectoria musical tras este nombre no demasiado conocido. Ya como Symphonity han publicado tres LP's de estudio desde 2006, en 2008, 2016 y 2022, así pues tampoco es que la constancia compositiva sea su punto fuerte. Hablamos de un marco sonoro de power metal, europower, comparando su sonido al de bandas como Stratovarius. En 2026 publicaban su segundo album de estudio "King Of Persia" y de él quiero dejar en el blog su canción "The Choice" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

UFO - Rock Bottom

 

ROCK  BOTTOM

Los británicos UFO, una institución dentro del hard rock y proto heavy metal de los comienzos mismos de nuestro sonido, una de las piezas fundamentales para entender lo que vendría después. Formados en 1968, desde 1970 comienzan a publicar LP's y para 1974, en su tercer LP, "Phenomenon", dan la Bienvenida al guitarrista alemán Schenker, por entonces jovencísimo, solo 19 años, que resultaría decisivo en composición e interpretación desde ese mismo album en adelante. El disco citado es una obra enorme, destacable en general, con temas míticos como también lo es este "Rock Bottom" del que quiero dejar hoy en el blog un enlace a youtube.

Asenblut - Urgewalt

 

URGEWALT 

Los alemanes Asenblut están de vuelta en este 2026 para publicar a mediados de septiembre "Urgewalt" que será su sexto LP de estudio desde su formación en 2007. Como siempre su oscuro sonido a medio camino de muchas cosas y sin llegar a ser solo una de ellas, es ya sello sonoro de la banda. Uno de los datos que deben evitar dudar sobre la magnitud de la banda británica Magnum, es el de su longevidad, la fecha de su debut, 1978, a través de la obra "Kingdom Of Madness", así pues, hablamos de uno de esos llamados pioneros, estos desde una vertiente más hard rockera, en sus inicios incluso progresivos, pero siempre importantes, influyentes, históricos y ahora que ya se han separado, para muchos míticos. Eternal Winter - Song Of The Sworn Blade

SONG  OF  THE  SWORN  BLADE 

Sentimientos encontrados en la nueva obra de los estadounidenses Eternal Winter, por una parte la base heavy, la temática de fantasía y espada, todo ello es un marco atractivo para el que guste de semejante mezcla. es un prototipo a priori de lo que debería ser. Por otro lado, algunos rasgos como la parte instrumental sigue ahondando en la sensación de haber acertado, luego llega la parte vocal, que no diré que sea mala, es para mi gusto más bien forzada, como demasiado exagerada, pero la composición, un poco a medio tiempo, ofrece mucho para compensar el exceso vocal, aunque en ocasiones se pierda ligeramente en una cierta autocomplacencia. Sin duda un disco de canciones, hay que tener muchas ganas y fe para escucharte la obra de un tirón. Veonity - When Humanity Is Gone

WHEN  HUMANITY  IS  GONE 

La enorme densidad de bandas suecas que ha habido, hay y sin duda habrá, hace que muchas veces los grupos suecos se diluyan en su abundancia, que se nos olvide alguna o que no le prestemos toda la atención que mereciera, y muchas veces, al caer en la cuenta de una de esas bandas, y echar la mirada atrás a su historia personal, nos damos cuenta, en no pocas ocasiones de la magnitud nada despreciable de sus discografías. Veonity es una de esas bandas que han ido haciendo, casi discretamente, una discografía llena de buenas propuestas y que, a fecha de esta reseña, cuenta ya con seis LP's de estudio desde su formación en 2013. Los portugueses Moonspell van cumpliendo años en la escena internacional, tres décadas de actividad han dado para mucho, trece LP's de estudio si contamos el esperado para primeros de julio de este 2026 "Far from God", e igualmente un sonido que ha ido evolucionando desde el más oscuro de la parte inicial de su carrera al más "arreglado" de la parte final de la misma. El material de los alemanes Eternity's End, es de los que traen a la cabeza varios subgéneros, reminiscencias a diferentes grupos y propuestas, así sus elementos power, heavy progresivos e incluso speedicos pueden ser del agrado de muchos tipos de oyentes, estamos ante una banda que no se limita a un solo tipo de sonido, sin duda. Sellsword - Mighty Mercenaries

MIGHTY  MERCENARIES 

El último día del mes de julio saldrá a la venta el nuevo trabajo de los británicos Sellsword, el que será su tercer LP de estudio y que llevará por título "...With might and vengenance". Tras un silencio compositivo ya muy prolongado desde una perspectiva de LP, ya que desde 2019 no publicaban nada en ese formato, la banda parece retomar la actividad con su espíritu compositivo intacto. Los canadienses Heroik parecen tristemente destinados a quedarse en el gran grupo de bandas que han editado un meritorio debut para luego no dar un segundo paso, serán otra de esas bandas que siempre llevarán consigo la incognita de hasta donde habrían podido llegar. Estamos hablando de power metal, de comienzos del la década de los 10, y con el potencial mostrado en este "Heart of battle" bien pudiesen haber desarrollado una carrera como mínimo remarcable. Aún a pesar de supuestamente seguir en activo se antojan ya demasiados años de silencio como para una resurrección, máxime cuando nunca cintaron con apoyo discográfico. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog otra de las canciones de su de momento único LP, concretamente "Until the end" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Segundo single que nos deja la banda sueca Final Strike en este 2026, "Raised by wolves", y sin saber aún si habrá nuevo LP del grupo en breve, todo apunta a que será así. Recordemos que Final Strike es un grupo nuevo, formado en 2023 año en que publican su debut, y a fecha de esta reseña único LP "Finding Pieces" que dejó un buen sabor de boca a los amantes del sonido power. At Vance - Saviour

 

SAVIOUR 

Se echa de menos a esta banda que irrumpiese con fuerza a finales de los 90, teniendo en la primera mitad de los 2000 a crítica y fans a sus pies, todo hacía presagiar que el grupo llegaría a ser uno de los grandes, pero nunca se deben lanzar las campanas al vuelo, poco más de una década sacando material y luego silencio que ya abarca casi década y media a pesar de que su estatus siga en modo activo. El último trabajo publicado fue "Facing your enemy" de 2012, y de él dejo hoy en el blog su canción "Saviour" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Leatherwitch - Heores And The Dice

HEROES  AND  THE  DICE 

 El recién pasado 29 de mayo ha visto la luz de forma oficial el primer disco de la banda polaca Leatherwitch, que es lo mismo que decir Marta Gabriel que liderase la banda Crystal Viper, así, poniendo fin a esta última banda, el nuevo proyecto, por otra parte con una concepción bastante clónica de los citados Crystal Viper, ahora con Marta encargándose de todo, instrumentos y composición, comienza su andadura en este 2026 desde el punto de vista compositivo. Heavy Metal pues, de corte clásico, supuestamente más speedico que el practicado con su anterior banda, y con un cierto aire true. Wicked Sensation - My Turn To Fly

MY  TURN  TO  FLY 

Wicked Sensation, la banda alemana con ya una larga trayectoria a sus espaldas y repartida en dos épocas, entre 1999 y 2006 y después desde 2009 en adelante, un grupo que realiza un sonido a medio camino del heavy melódico y el hard 'n heavy, una banda que se ha mantenido un poco en un segundo plano, sin llegar a explotar internacionalmente a la primerísima línea pero que siempre ha sabido mantener un nivel compositivo al menos interesante. En 2010 el grupo publicaba su tercer LP de estudio de los cinco que afecha de esta reseña forman parte de su discografía, "Crystallized". Hoy, de la citada obra dejo inevitablemente el tema "My turn to fly" con la colaboración de Andy Deris a la voz (de ahí lo de inevitablemente), un tema del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Magnum - Quiet Rhapsody

QUIET  RHAPSODY 

Los británicos Magnum son otra de esas bandas llamadas a ser mito en su nicho sonoro, por la importancia de su carrera desde un punto de vista completo, por su porción pionera en el pastel global de heavy metal, más desde su visión hard rockera por supuesto, pero seguro que la historia les colocará más arriba aún con el paso del tiempo, máxime ahora. tras la muerte de su lider y mayor compositor Tony Clarkin, guitarra y alma motora de la banda. Su extensa discografía de 23 LP's de estudio es suficiente garantía para alcanzar ese mito, y hoy quiero recuperar otra de sus canciones, en este caso de su décimo noveno album de estudio, "Sacred blood, divine lies" de 2016, concretamente "Quiet Rhapsody" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube. Otra banda eterna.

Elvenking - The Past Is Forever

THE  PAST  IS  FOREVER 

No se si habrá intencionalidad en el título de esta canción, o simplemente es un sensación mía, pero en la misma detecto más rasgos primigenios del sonido de los italianos Elvenking, más de lo que hacía mucho tiempo que venía escuchando, y es que nunca he disimulado que el mejor material de la banda en mi opinión es el inicial, más que ninguno el mostrado en su debut. Al final esta no es sino otra de esas viejas historias de la música, la evolución frente a la fidelidad a las raices, creo, cada vez más, que el equilibrio además de dificil es lo aconsejable, pero nunca deberían los grupos rechazar los inicios. El caso es que Elvenking, en este 2026 nos deja un EP nuevo, con temas nuevos como este "The past is forever" y versiones de otras bandas. Del citado tema dejo hoy en el blog un enlace a youtube.

La escena polaca es otra de las que parecen ofrecer un puñado de bandas de calidad siendo a priori una cantera por la que no apostarías a primera vista, sin embargo ha habido bandas clásicas y precursoras de esta escena desde los comienzos de nuestro sonido. por algo será. Hoy quiero traer al blog a una banda polaca, Crimson Valley, un grupo que no ha publicado mucho material de estudio, solo un LP en 2012, tres años después de su formación en 2009, y luego, tras un EP en 2015 casi una década de silencio compositivo hasta que en 2024 se reactivan a ese nivel compositivo ofreciendonos otro EP. Heavy Power metal de corte europeo es la receta de la banda, de la que dejo hoy en el blog su canción "Free", perteneciente a su único LP "Crossing the sky" de 2012, tema del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

DORIAN

Sebastien, la banda checa buen ejemplo del eterno dilema, la calidad o la cantidad, sin duda ellos han escogido lo primero y así en más de década y media de actividad el grupo ha publicado solo cinco LP's de estudio primando esa calidad por encima de otras cosas. Ya desde su debut de 2010 "Tears of white roses" la banda apuntaba alto, no solo por la propia concepción de sus canciones enmarcadas en un power de corte melódico sino además por las colaboraciones, como en la canción del citado album que hoy dejo en el blog, "Dorian" que cuenta con Fabio Lione como refuerzo, por otra parte uno de esos mercenarios del metal que ha colaborado con medio planeta sonoro, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.
